@@walterbills57 with most of the actors being popular actors from movies instead of TV I've always thought of it as a long movie. I know it's technically a mini series but it's better than most theatrical releases.

Lonesome Dove is definitely a favorite. I visualized him as Gus while reading the book. So many performances by a incredibly talented man.

Lonesome Dove was by far one of the greatest TV series ever put out. But for movies Secondhand Lions was a top five movie. IMHO Any western Mr Duvall happens to be in IMHO is always going to be one you will enjoy watching over and over. Duvall fits in well with his costars and to me he and Tommy Lee Jones highlighted eachother. Thank You Mr Duvall for never holding back on any of your performinces. You are a wonderful and great actor. IMHO

I know there are a lot of great westerns and I know the 15 shots from the 6 shooter was a total screw-up, but I could watch Open Range 3 times a week for the rest of my life. Just an amazing movie.

My favorite Duvall's performance was in an episode of the original "The Outer Limits entitled "The Inheritors". He also had a wonderful performance in an episode of The Outer Limits" entitled "The Chameleon". Any Duvall fan must search for these episides.

The Apostle is a tremendous film. So many great performances in addition to Duvall's. He proved his mettle as a director and screenwriter with that passion project. Even Brando liked it!

Lonesome Dove is magnificent and inspiring cinema. Special mention to a niche favourite of mine, Wrestling Earnest Hemingway. Both works always find me in tears no matter the timing. Duvall Lee Jones Eastwood Hackman These are my living acting heroes.

Duvall had a supporting role in The Road as a blinded survivor of a global apocalypse. He was fantastic. I can’t think of anyone who could have handled that role so well.

*Lonesome Dove is not a movie, but a TV Mini-series. That being said, it should rank as Robert Duvall's best work. Seven Days in Utopia, Second Hand Lions, The Great Santini, and Broken Trail are also amongst my favorite Robert Duvall movies.*

I liked a little known thriller movie from early 2000 called "Assassination Tango" where Duval plays with his beautiful and graceful Argentine wife and manages to master difficult tango steps. The movie is actually on Internet

My favorite Robert Duvall role was Frank Hackett in Paddy Chayefsky's "Network". " It's a big, fat, big-titted hit, and I don't have to waffle around with Ruddy any more!" Brilliant movie filled with great performances.

He has done so much it's hard to pick the Top 10. He stands out even in smaller parts. I loved him in "A Civil Action", "Deep Impact", "MASH", "True Confessions" and "Falling Down". All memorable parts of his.

Ike The War Years, a mini series on TV during the 1980's where he masterfully played Dwight D. Eisenhower and Second Hand Lions where he plays an eccentric curmudgeon are also great performances by Robert Duval.

My preference is for The Apostle, but all good choices. I also loved him in The Great Santini and Falling Down. I've heard Duvall, himself, say his own favorite performance was as Josef Stalin. Unfortunately, I haven't seen that one.

Duvall immortalized himself (in my Heart and mind anyway) directing that surfing scene topless, during the Viet Nam war, on the beach if i can watch it a thousand times and more it would’nt be enough‼️🥂 and of course ‘gone in 60 seconds’ was such great fun with Cage (inter alia) He knows how to entertain and show incomparable class in the intense moments where (when) a ‘glint’ in the eye, is essentially needed He is super brilliant at his craft 👊🔥 🪖

All the 10 listed movie roles are great, although I’d put his roles in A Civil Action, Great Santini, Network, and Killer Elite in the top 10. Also appreciate his numerous TV guest appearances in Combat and The Fugitive from the early 60s.
