Very happy to see Geddy Lee get the credit. I am from the same area he is from and have run across him and his family numerous times and he has always been my favorite bassist. I'm glad to see it wasn't just my bias. And on top of that the guys in the band are/were really good solid guys that treated their fans with nothing but respect.

Geddy Lee and Rush were Rock’s Class Act!!! Anyone who played an instrument, guitar bass or drums, can appreciate that Mr. Lee number one bassist of all time, Mr. Peart number one drummer/percussionist of all time. Alex Lifeson, top five guitarist of all time🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸. Rush #1 Power Trio Of All Time!!! And my favorite since their heyday in the late 70s. Rush The Greatest Band In The Galaxy🎸🎸🎸

@@Tavat Thank You, I am a retired bass player, my 2 close friends , one a guitarist with over 45 years experience, and one a drummer with over 40 years of experience!!! We all three agree Geddy Lee #1 All Time whoever is # 2 is very far behind. Same with Neil Peart, except he is a drummer/ percussionist and whoever is number 2 is actually a million miles behind Neil Peart!!! Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen, yes one , two , three🎸 Number 4 Alex Lifeson!!! Incidentally, for number five all time, I have Tony Iomi, the inventor of heavy-metal and guitarist for Black Sabbath🎸🎸🎸 The rock group that invented heavy-metal. Number six David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, who in our opinion founded and originated what we like to call Head Music , a sub genre of progressive rock🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
@YedMan01
@YedMan01 Год назад
@@joesonestopproshop8533 I agree Joe, and also plays complicated bass lines, while singing Neil Peart‘s impossible dictionary lyrics!!! The only other Progressive Rock Musician to compare him with is a multi-talented man by the name of Ian Anderson, founder and leader of another Progressive Rock Giant Called Jethro Tull. My friend who plays guitar, also plays flute and in our band ( retired now) we covered a few Jethro Tull songs like Aqua Lung, and Locomotive Breath!! Anderson, can play six or eight instruments, writes most of the lyrics & musical compositions for the songs!!!. So, my guitar playing buddy who also plays flute, believes Ian Anderson to be the number one progressive rock musician of all time. I have a tendency to agree with him, And that would make Geddy Lee number two, in our opinion but no lower!!!

Like all generation's, we are only interested in those who influenced that generation. Bands from the Big Band era like Mel Torme, Glen Miller, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis, Louis Armstrong, Buddy Rich and Gene Kruper, Ray Charles, Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Jimmy Witherspoon, Dinah Washington, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Bobby Hackett, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Teddy Wilson, and through to today, the likes of Michael Buble, Paul Anka and his Orchestra, David Campbell, Tony Bennett and his trio, there was Dave Brubeck, BB King and his Orchestra, Dudley Moore, Herbie Mann, James Moody and Dizzy Gillespie, Willie Dixon, Jamie Calum, Even the likes of Herb Albert and his Orchestra, Dr John, Burt Bacarach and his Band. Just too many to name here, these guys are some of the best there ever was, and when these bass players that are listed here as being some of the best around, they won't be remembered as long as these greats that I have mentioned here. These bands had some very good musicians playing with them over the years and times of their generation, their music still lives on today from many younger up and coming players who admire these players and their music. There are a few here that I rate as very good musician's, and bass player's, such as John Deakin, 'Led Zeppelin's' bassist, 'Deep Purple's' bassist Roger Glover, also Glen Hughes, The bass player from Rober Fripp's band 'King Crimson', he went on to join up with 'Bad Company'. Definatey 'Yes's' original bassist, definately had a great style that heavily influenced the 'Yes' sound, it may have been the treble Richenbacker bass he used to help get that sound, but he definately had the slap style sound going on. Bill Black from Elvis Presley's first band, he definately created a lot of feel to the songs Elvis was recording back in the 50s. The bass player Elvis used in his 'Vegas Days', as good as he was at holding the rhythm section together, with his busy style, I felt he was too busy with everything he played, everything was way too fast and in a hurry! for me personally, he was too over the top! but Elvis seemed to like what he contributed. I find that players, including guitarist's, keyboard player's, and drummer's, that are too busy, they all over play and are too self indulgent, which their lacks in the feel of what they are playing. They are way more interested in showing off, trying to impress would be musician's with their tricks and unsavoury noise. These type of players don't interest me in the least, they're too messy, which lacks musical merit. Paul McCartney is about the only bass player in modern music, that plays creative feel with his playing, which helps create the songs he writes, or helps write and play on. Look at songs like Cilla Blacks "Step Inside Love" which he wrote for her, he accually plays guitar on this track. The other is "It's For You", also written for Cilla Black by Lennon /McCartney. Paul is a very melodic musician, there is always melody and feel when he plays bass, not some messy 'nightmare' of mish mash notes that make no sense when listening to it. I've listened to the band 'Mr Big' where they all get carried away with themselves, showing off how good they are, at being able to cross arms across each other during a performance, and play each other's instruments, great for (the would be's, if they could be!) novice musicians who are all impressed with a trick, by these so called top musician's. I have quite a few 'Rush' albums in my collection, but it all sounds the same after a while, some of their arrangement's are OK, but nothing brilliant, just Okay. Same with bands like 'Yes', 'Deep Purple', Uriah Heep', 'Metallica', 'Bon Jovi', 'Kiss', even 'Queen', 'Bad Company', 'Beck, Bogart and Appice', 'Van Halen', 'Led Zeppelin', 'Frank Zappa', 'Ungly Kid Joe', 'LIVE', 'Offspring', 'Bush', 'Sound Garden', 'Pearl Jam', 'Lincoln Park', 'Foo Fighters', 'Klaatu', 'Reef Glow', 'Three Doors Down', 'Goo Goo Dolls', 'The Killers', 'Maroon 5', 'Squeeze', 'Matchbox 20', 'Green Day', 'Motor Head', Guns and Roses', 'ACDC', 'Steppenwolf', 'Rainbow', 'Pink', 'Merridith Brooks', 'The Cranberries', and the list's go on, only a few selected tracks are worth listening to, the rest is boring, going nowhere material, and bands and artist don't seem to realise that their original material all sounds the same, and similar to the last track, so they're all boring to listen to. If I had to listen to these (show off bass players) I'd last a few bars in, and listen to a few bars of the next track, and so forth until I've had a little taste, take the album off, put it away and in some cases, never listen to it again, because it all sounds the same. Only certain tracks maybe OK, so I'm a finicky listener when it comes to all music. As I said, (show off players don't impress me) I'm a bassist myself, it takes a lot to impress me. I do have a lot of respect for the older style music, and I appreciate the musicianship that went into that music, yes, some is a load of rubbish, I agree.

Agree (at least concerning Claypool and McCartney)! As much as I love the Beatles, McCartney always been my least favourite one. His songs, especially the ones he wrote without Lennon, are way too much kitsch for my taste. I expected Ley Claypool to be among the top 5 just because of his mad skill. The order of the rest can be argued about but it's really a lottery because they were all great. But, and that's a BIG BUT, if the list takes commercial success and extra skills (like songwriting) into account: Where the hell is Sting? He is a great musician, too, and a very skilful jazz-influenced bassist!

However when it comes to pure bass playing, many in the bottom of this list supercede them. Also Geezer should absolutely make the list. I could go on for days as to why. Personally Paul, John, and John were crucial parts of their bands but if we're talking strictly bass playing, Les, Steve, Flea, Cliff and certainly Geezer should be ahead of them I'm my opinion.

Habibi Hassan I'm a huge Green Day fan and I like Mike a lot. There's no denying he's very good at what he does. I'd say within the style of music he plays he's easily one of the best. However when talking about the best bassists of all time, he's just not in the same league as the real greats, like Geddy Lee, Flea, Cliff, Steve Harris and John Paul Jones.

They also totally discounted vic wooten and didn't even bother mentioning Carol Kaye even though that lady is seriously responsible for a ton of the entire style of bass guitar a lot of these guys play but since she was a studio musician and not a stage performer they don't even mention her. They were at least smart enough to not put up one of the bass players who she did the studio work for and put them in the list I guess, so that's something.
@killerpeaches7
@killerpeaches7 7 лет назад
actually, they specifically showed Vic Wooten under "session" players, at the beginning, whom they were not making the list about. Mind you, don't fully agree with their list, either the inclusions or placement, but it is what it is (most of this is subjective at this point)..... though honestly found putting Tom Araya on honorable mentions a bit laughable.... don't really know anyone who listens to Slayer for their basslines.
