For myself, while I could never pick a favorite band, Zeppelin always has a song to fit any mood.

the beatles and zeppelin are definitely or atleast in my opinion the greatest though nirvana and fleetwood mac are my personal favourites as well if i am not being biased i wouldnt put them as high as beatles and zep

The fact that AC/DC isn't even top 10 is criminal. They fit every criteria for greatest rock bands to ever live. They are still doing it til' this day, they have some of the most classic rock songs that are still popular to this day, they have the 2nd best selling album of all time, they are one of the best selling artists of all time, and countless other things. They should be top 5 at the very least

Even though Led Zeppelin are by far the 'Greatest Rock Band' of all time and maybe the only band to contend for the top spot besides The Beatles, I can't disregard the impact and influence of The Beatles, even though classifying them as a rock band wouldn't be appropriate.I prefer The Beatles as the 'Greatest Band' of all time and Led Zeppelin as the 'Greatest Rock Band' of all time. Also, hard disagree with Queen being ahead of Pink Floyd🤦‍♂️👎🏼

I get why Cream isn't on the list cuz they only played for 2 years. Cream is beyond God-like.

Simply put, when things are looked at absolutely impartially. Led Zeppelin is the greatest band until the end of the existence of the human genome in the universe. And that is the only true point. Many people, when they make various decisions, even such evaluations as to who is the greatest in something, are nevertheless guided by bias. Bias that arises from various life experiences of each individual. In order to make a decision, one must free the mind from bias of any kind, think deeply and rationally look at all aspects and factors. And that can only be done if you are as intellectually gifted as Socrates ( which the majority is not), or otherwise simply for the majority, freed from any bias when making a decision.

Great job Mojo, agree with most of the picks but Van Halen should have been on this list.

I feel The Yardbirds should have been on this list. They are credited with being one of the pioneers of psychedelic rock and they had a number of amazing songs. Not to mention they once had Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page as their guitarists. That's pretty impressive.

Guns n Roses…Let’s talk about incredible frenetic energy and talent.

I'd say putting Queen at #3 is really exaggerating it.Also, personally I'd switch The Who and The Rolling Stones.Queen and The Rolling Stones are two of the most legendary and revered bands of all time, no doubt they have lots of amazing songs the genre can be known for but the problem with them is that their discography is full of bland fillers compared to The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, both of them are completely in a different league to all the bands on the list.For one, I can put Pink Floyd at the #3 instead of Queen because Pink Floyd's 1973-1979 run might be the best 4 album run ever.Again, outside of Pink Floyd's 70s output, their discography is just as bland as Queen's but at least Pink Floyd has that 4 album peak which Queen doesn't. That's just me though.

With so many bands from the 60s-80s being more appreciated after their time, I kind of wonder who from the 2000s and 2010s will be hailed by future generations that we largely ignore now.

I will do my best to make an objective list. 1. The Beatles 2. Rolling Stones 3. Pink Floyd 4. Led Zeppelin 5. Queen 6. ACDC 7. Creedence Clearwater Revival 8. The Who 9. The Doors 10. Eagles Not putting Metallica and Sabbath because I consider them to be Metal Bands which deserves separate list, otherwise they would be in the list. And no way I would be putting queen above the stones like WM did, Stones just has more classic albums and undisputed longevity. Pink Floyd above Led Zeppelin because I believe Pink Floyd forged their own ground (musically speaking) and had more original material although LZ was THE band of the 70s. CCR is inarguably the greatest American Band in terms of legacy, songwriting. They are not fashionable like Aerosmith but musically they have more cultural influence. Honorable mentions to: Van Halen, U2, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Kiss, Nirvana, Guns n Roses, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream ( Kiss deserves to be here just because of their mammoth Influence on the development of metal and rock music in 80s and 90s kids. ) Edit: I forgot Deep Purple. Easily one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Mk II and Mk III lineup of 70s is hard to argue against. My personal list would include Soundgarden and Clutch in the Top 5, but hey thats just me.

Ok, I have been lucky enough to see 3 of the 20 bands. Beach Boys twice, Pink Floyd and Aerosmith. I consider this a good start!😂

Only thing I'd add to this would be giving Tony Iommi more credit for creating heavy metal. They started as a blues band called Earth and the day before going on their first tour Tony was working in a factory cutting sheet metal and on his last day they put him on a machine he never worked before and the machine came down on his right hand cutting off two finger tips. Playing was too painful so he melted bottle caps and capped them with leather but it was still too uncomfortable so he down tuned his guitar which gave the blues sound a more dark heavy tone and that's credited as creating the sound of metal.

How can you produce a list like this without Deep Purple, "Smoke on the water" is one of the greatest "Rock" songs period and one of the most influential bands in Rock Music.

My fast thoughts about this top : #20 The Doors -> One of the best american rock bands and an incredible singer. They deserve to be higher #19 Fleetwood Mac -> This is a surprising choice. But they are good so why not #18 Aerosmith -> They deserve to be in a top 20 but why is a superior hard rock band like Van Halen (I don't mean Van Hagar) not in that list ? #17 Ramones -> Very poor musically imo. I have never undertsood the general enthusiasm about them. However, they have a solid singer #16 Guns N' Roses -> Overestimated imo. Once again, Van Halen is better #15 Creedence Clearwater Revival -> A good band that I really like but including them in a top 20 is a bit exaggerated. A group like Police or Rush could easily replace them #14 The Clash -> A great punk band which was much more than that ! Should be higher #13 Eagles -> They are fine but too high #12 Metallica -> Whether one likes or dislikes them, it can't be denied that they had a huge impact on the metal genre, so #12 is a well-earned position #11 AC/DC -> They deserve to be in a top 20 for sure but #11 is maybe too high #10 Radiohead -> One of the most innovative bands of the last decades. They should even be higher #9 Nirvana -> A fantastic band which meant a lot when I was a kid #8 The Beach Boys -> One of the most influential bands and personally, a huge musical snap ! #8 is too low for a group of that calibre #7 Black Sabbath -> A very influential band but #7 is a bit too high #6 The Who -> One of the best bands of all time. They created intros like nobody ! #5 The Rolling Stones -> Everlasting respect to them. No debate #4 Pink Floyd -> One of the few bands that have been able to conjugate musical integrity and commercial success. Highly deserved place #3 Queen -> A great band that deserves to be in a top 10. But come on, #3 is a bit higher ! They could easily be replaced by the Beach Boys #2 Led Zeppelin -> WatchMojo seem to love Led Zep and they're right ! #1 The Beatles -> No debate, no question
