Why so many breakfast machines? I'm guessing it's because so many screenplay writers want to start the first scene with the main character waking up in the morning. So, if that character is either a nutty inventor, or a general screwball... gotta have the breakfast machine... no matter how cliche' it's become.
+Patrick Melody i think it's got more to do with the inherent desire to make the morning routine as easy as possible, if you had a machine that would cook breakfast for you each morning it'd be great wouldn't it? of course,...what they don't show is them having to reset a lot of those things each night before bed lol
+Patrick Melody I don't think a breakfast machine is a cliché, like most Rube Goldberg machines, they're fun to look at. However, look at the opening credits from 4:52 until 5:13. That's a way to hammer in the main character is intelligent and depending of your knowledge on math, that text is cringe-worthy.

It's one thing with bowling balls starting chain reaction that makes your coffee & breakfast butt another when that chain reaction, or series of misfortunate events is designed to destroy your life, & justify alleged life saver your containment & forced treatment based on false cause & fabricated premise

That entire opening sequence of Pee Wee's Big Adventure was hilarious: The retractable bed sheets, the bunny slippers sniffing the toy carrot, Pee Wee lifting 3lb weights like its 50lbs. and the whole morning breakfast Goldberg machine leading to Pee Wee eating one bite of food and feeling full!! HEE-LAR-EE US!!!! LOL
I know its not a movie but there was a sketch on Family guy with a Rube Goldberg Machine, that supposedly makes breakfast, but ends in a gun being fired at Peter Griffin. I do believe he was using the same machine as Peewee's.

I always wanted to build a Rube Goldberg machine when I was a kid, have it set up in my house like the breakfast machine in chitty chitty bang bang or any evil masterminds Traps, like The great mouse detective or the older james bond and dr. evil movies.

There was a Rube Goldberg test in Waiting... that was used as the decorations in the restaurant, but they've managed to set it off in the movies making of documentary. Plus, Jackass tried doing a Goldberg test with the crew being apart of the test, but it failed.

I'm glad Ernest's house at least got an honorable mention. But Pee-Wee's whole house is amazing. I recently watched that opening and I suddenly remembered how much I loved the movie as a kid. That whole house is a child's dream if silly fun an insane mechanics in action.
