I once had a nightmare where I was swimming off the coast of Athens. I went underwater and I saw the Kraken staring back at me. I screamed and woke up immediately. I didn’t swim in any form of water for awhile after that
"20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" is misunderstood. It refers to the length of travel and not depth Capt. Nemo explored. 20,000 leagues is about 60 miles deeper than the Mariana Trench.
this is the second video in as many days where Jaws has been number one. I get that it's iconic, and that you clearly have a massive hardon for it (bit weird but ok) but how about a bit of variety
They maybe could've added the shrieking eels from "The Princess Bride" to this list. Those eels really gave me the creeps as a kid, and made it hard for me to go swimming for a time.

I think we should have one on Top 10 Strangest Sea Monsters in Movies. Some sh- isn't necessarily Big or Freakish, just damn Weird, outlandish. Goofy, bizarre, or maybe creepy or nasty. Wouldn't mind one like this.
Clash of Titans copied Kraken's design from God of War 2 and BVS : Dawn of Justice copied the face of Kraken from Clash of Titans and put it in Doomsday's face.
So glad to see Cthulhu from Underwater made this list, even if it's just an honorable mention. One of my favorite reveals in a movie in years! Also glad to see Slattern from Pacific Rim here on the list too! Pacific Rim is my favorite movie of all time and the Kaiju in that film are so often forgotten on so many lists, which is a shame.
Gojira will always be the best "Monster from the Sea" movie. In the same year being made oddly enough, 20,000 Leagues has also always captivated me. These were two movies I watched all the time growing up, on the classic vhs. At the time, it was 1956 Americanized Godzilla King of the Monsters I had. For the original '54 Gojira was yet to be released to American audiences, through home video. Very very rare to find a copy of it. You pretty much. Had to get it from Japan by living there. The special effects though between these two movies, shows the many beautiful different approaches between the west and east. I can only imagine what 20,000 Leagues was like, watching it for the first time in theaters. Its a movie marvel for its time. The effects hold up even to this day! The squid attack always was my favorite. The set design of the Nautilus, along with the design of the submarine itself. Pure steam punk beauty. Gojira, the allegory and dark brooding despair you feel is what always captivated me. The Akira Ifukube score set with the iconic roar of Godzilla, its just, so powerful. When it is Godzilla who is the true sympothetic victim. Despite what 92's Godzilla vs King Ghidorah would have you believe, the original Godzilla was not a "Godzillasaurus" that was mutated from fallout of nuclear tests. He was an ancient creature that was awoken by the arrogance of man's power. It's why as much as I love '92's Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, the story screws with the originals idea. Godzilla will always be up there for me, about how others feel for Marvel and DC characters, which I love also. Godzilla though was always my first and 30 years later, still my favorite. Childhood nostalgia at max powa. This latest resurrection of Kaiju movies, a dream come true. I believe Godzilla vs Kong is the Endgame and pinnacle point, of where kaiju movies have came. Hopefully it lives up to what its representing. Long Live the King! Oh also, Shin Godzilla is one of my all time favorites also. For its take on Fukushima, and the way the government responded to the whole disaster in Japan that year. The allegory in that is also a great masterpiece. There's a reason why it was the biggest movie in Japan, in 2016. I love that movie. Highly suggested.
My pick is Moby Dick (In the Heart of the Sea), The Kraken (Pirates of the Carribean 2), 2nd Gen Mako (Deep Blue Sea, The Monster from Sector 7 movie and Cthulthu (Underwater) are my favourites.
That specific show in Jaws is pure nightmare fuel for me. Even today, as I'm about to get out of the pool, or climb onto a boat, or swimming in he ocean, that shot is exactly what I picture is behind me. Mouth open, teeth out, just about to swallow my legs. Then I quickly scramble out of the water and look behind me. Only ripples on the surface. It shakes me up every single time. That's why I can never play Subnautica. It will legit terrify me and give me nightmares. The ocean is a horrifying place and we don't belong in it.
The Octopus/Squid from Lord of the Rings should have been on this list. Also, a movie needs to do Leviathan proper. Like Leviathan from FFXV. That would be epic.
I like GODZILLA (1998) and GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS. I also love CLASH OF THE TITANS (2010), PACIFIC RIM, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, and GODZILLA (2014).
