There are franchises that start strong but falter, (Star Wars, Shrek, Terminator) franchises that start badly but do better, ( DC cinematic universe, Fast and Furious ) franchises that suck from beginning to end, (Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey) and franchises that have highs and lows (X-men, Star Trek). But Mission Impossible is the rare franchise that keeps topping itself with each entry.
@@ben3218 it hardly making past 100 million before the 5th film. The 3rd although seen as a cult film now was a disaster commercially and critically mainly because poor acting other than Sung Kang and the beautiful stunt driving from the drifting legends as the stunt driver. The 4th was initially thought as rock bottom. And the general reception on the 5th film was actually great even for the fans. But, after the 7th movie it lost their fanbase and the viewer are mostly casuals. And it keep getting worse from there. It honestly should stop at 6th as Justin Lin use to wanted. But apparently Justin Lin is back and he wanted to end it at 11
The Academy have been proposing for the best Stunt award for 2 decades but the boards never past it. Considering there is an award for best special effect. The stunt work should be appreciated. They have tired of asking the board for the awards and just straight up give Jackie Chan an Honorary Oscar for outstanding contributions in stuntworks. I think Tom will eventually heading to this path. Which is a bit of a shame because Tom was a very good actors on top of that crazy stunt. His earlier works are littered with Best Picture calibre movie (same with Jackie Chan in his youth but he was in China and didn't get much recognition)
Tom Cruise is sure as hell as a dedicated fighter in his own right, especially the stunts and fight sequences he participated in, made me love him ever more due to his commitment. The way they shoot these behind the scenes are just breathtaking.

For me the brave cameraman who also jumped out of the plane for the halo airplane scene in fallout is the undoubted MVP with all the camera equipment how heavy was it
Mission Impossible will go down as one of the best American movie franchises, and in no small part will that be due to Tom Cruise's almost peerless commitment and charisma.
Tom is a living legend who deserves the Cecil B. Demille award, the life achievement at the AFI, the Oscars, SAG, being honored at the Kennedy Center and have his bio-pic !!!
Fun fact. Producers of the earlier MI films doesn’t want tom to do his own stunts since its dangerous. So tom himself became a producer of the MI films so he can do whatever stunt he wants to do.
The Mission: IMPOSSIBLE films were great, but the original TV series relies more on outwitting and outthinking/outmanuevering the enemy rather than an actual physical confrontation. It also had the recurring plot device of having a double agent/traitor in the Impossible Missions Force; thankfully the series improved as it progressed, making it one of the best movie franchises of all time to date.

i love the mission impossible series is a way better series than fast and furious... yet the fast and furious is always a bigger ticket sales than mission impossible
Halo jump was actually about 2,3 takes, filmed over a desert etc, as seen in behind the scene, and jump from plane was real, but falling and catch ing Henry Cavill was 2nd take
