Apparently for Point Break, the producers wouldn't allow their stars to actually skydive, but Swayze was an avid skydiver IRL. So he invited all the crew out to jump on a free day, and took the cameraman along with them. Provided with raw footage and still-living stars, the producer went ahead and used it in the movie.

The thing that bugs me most about that cliff jump is that the bike doesn’t look like it’s rolling over rough terrain. It just glides up smoothly all the way, and that really takes me out of the moment.

I have one for you guys that you HAVE to do: the Season 3 finale of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. The "accession" of Mayor Richard Wilkins III, his transformation into a giant snake, the destruction of Sunnydale High School, and "well gosh!" I think you could have a lot of fun with it.

That Blender train crash thing reminds me of an idea KanGaming and Hyce had in one of their Railroads Online videos (they talked about all kinds of stuff while they played, sort of like a podcast). They had this idea of making a steam train based Fast & Furious spoof with totally crazy train drivers tuning their engines beyond all safety concerns and racing each other on crazy tracks that weren't build for those kinds of speeds. Maybe with your VFX skills you could give something like that a try, sounded like a fun idea.

Fun note about Point Break: The studio wouldn't insure Swayze to do the skydiving shots, so he went out on the weekend with a cameraman and did all the shots without their knowledge. Keanu Reeves said he HAS been skydiving before, but he didn't do any of the jumps in this movie. The closeups are done in studio, the wides are Swayze and a stunt double.

Great stuff as always. That point break clip motivated me to find some stuff online since it had been so long since I saw this movie. There is an earlier skydiving scene which is equally breathtaking. I think the major actors actually had to learn how to skydive. Also the Film movie helmet cam that i found while searching is crazy big for today's helmet cam standards. I am old enough to remember when this movie came out, and my memory is that they used one of those indoor skydiving fans outside with the sky in the background to get a few of the scenes. The actor being held up with air and nothing else.

13:06 what doesn’t sell the jump, is how smooth the motorcycle is gliding over the rocky CG ground/ramp. There’s a disconnect between how Craigie the rock is and the smoothness of a motorcycle ride.

Great episode! The "bad" fire effect is interesting to me because it's so disconnected to reality it makes me think its something other than real fire and then it suddenly work and looks decent. Haven't seen the whole scene but I thought it was an interesting realization.

I very rarely harp on talent as being anything more than just "time spent doing," but sometimes there are little Mozarts, Ramanujans, and then, for pretty novel media, Mutangas, I guess. I mean... there are so many layers to this. Like, he got the job and most definitely worked with feedback from the team, but his original trailer was already so insanely polished, it's pretty much what you get with the best artists spending most of their life on these movies. Crazy stuff, always exciting to watch people be great at what they do.

they did a video about animation like that a little while ago. I don't think they reacted to The Prince of Egypt (which is a great movie) but they reacted to some other 2d animations that used 3d in them like some scenes in Tarzan, and I think they've reacted to some animes using the same technique

Its just nice to see him getting better material to redeem himself, all the actors in the prequels were wooden, clunky and awkward from portman to jackson under lucas direction, let alone the awful writing, hes a good actor, wasn't his fault. That said, prequels are still light-years better than the sequel dumpster fires haha
