I like the look of belroy venture 6L or 9L when there not fully packed. I also like the look of my peak design field pouch, I've never gotten more complements on one piece of equipment
tomtoc Shoulder Bag for Nintendo Switch > anything by Bellroy. 1/3 the price of the Bellroy in the regular sales, and available in a nicer Khaki colour. Montbell and Domke also make nice small shoulder / sling bags. And please for the love of God choose something that's not black or grey.
Ok, I’ve tried them all. If you’re a middle aged dude and can pull off one of these things without looking like a complete doofus…congrats, you’re a better man than I.
Got an Aer Day Sling 3 Max earlier this year as my EDC sling and I'm very happy with it. I'm taking it on a 2-week road trip later this summer with my new Osprey Fairview 40, after years of lugging suitcases, I'll try to be a one-backpack traveller for once! 😄 Let's see how it goes!!
I took the tomtoc Urban Sling to New York City last month and it worked great for me. I like the loops on the side too where I hooked a carabiner to attach a packable tote bag.
I wish Pack Hacker would measure the actual volume of these bags because the manufacturer's information is completely unreliable. I own the tomtoc bag. I like it - but no way, this thing is 4.5 liters. I would guess 2.5l top. Actually the Cotopaxi bag seems to be larger even though it supposedly only has a volume of 2l
Bought a Bellroy for about $100 then saw the Tomtoc for $30. Tried them both and loved the Tomtoc more so I returned the overpriced Belroy. The Tomtoc is made of good solid materials. The draw back of the Tomtoc is you can’t wear it as a fanny pack when you need to but you can’t beat $30.
I was going to buy the Bellroy Venture Ready Sling 2.5L. And then I saw the price. Hilarious. They want like $110.00 Canadian. Do they use real silver and gold thread in its material?
I would ALWAYS daily a sling. After becoming a parent its changed up my EDC a bit - would love to see some videos for parent's EDC/recommended traveel products.
Embrace the dad bag (Tom Bihn Synapse/Synik are great, versatile options). Add a small sling with a thin strap for airports and planes, very useful for holding passports, boarding passes, dumping your phone and belt at security.
Unless your items are all colorful and bright, do not buy tomtoc or other bags with black color inside! Trust me, you'll regret and wish there was a light inside the bag so you can see where the stuff you're looking for. They've been around for so long and I have no idea how they still haven't figured that they need to change the color inside the bag.
I first bought the Alpaca Mini Tech Bag - Did not find the "perfect" place to stand up my iPhone Pro upright & my iPad mini fit a little to snug I returned it & got the Tech Bag (mid size). I have been using it for 3 months while traveling in my Van Conversion in the Southwest. Now I have the "right" place for the most used stuff ( phone - wallet - keys - AirPods - lip balm). Every other EDC (and there is a sh*t ton that actually fits) They all found their place -- eventually! Having a pen in the loop impedes using the pockets below it - so I don't use it to hold my pen or anything for that matter. You get used to reaching for the side grab handle or at times just man handling it by the top. I exclusively carry it a sling bag (on hikes, shoping & bicycle rides) and have no interest in the accessory strap to stablize it. Since you access the bag as a sling while you are wearing it from the back a Pro Tip would be to always access the bag from the back - that way with muscle & brain memory it facilities locating what's in the bag - For me "often' without having to even look - For Real Son... The ability to stand it up is so nice as the mini did not stand up on its own & that was a PITA. So - daily use for 3 months I am very happy with the bag. The bigger one would only oblige me to add more stuff in it. - so I'll stick with this ohe. BTW fully loaded the bag weighs 5 lbs 9 oz & appears to manage it just fine!!!
I have and AER sling and I love it but I am looking for something that will hold my sony mirrorless camera and one lens. I have not found one that works. either too big or too small. Someone must make the perfect size
I would like to see a sling bag that has an actual designated water bottle holder that’s versatile in different ways to carry it (such as across chest, back or hip) Have you all heard of the LunchBox Sling Pack? That’s something that’s caught my eye but haven’t seen anyone review it.
Sling Bags looks cute, but not so many sling bags have water bottle holders. I know we can put inside the bag, but I don’t want to my item gets wet (in case it leaves). Any sling bag or mini backpack with good water bottle holders?
Great video...as usual! Very nice bags and many options! My 2 cents? I love my Heimplanet Transit Line Sling Pocket, it's great and fits all the daily things that I have to carry!
Good selection you've got there! I've had a Heimplanet transit line sling pocket since 2021 to carry every day - I think it was recommended by Pack Hacker a couple of years ago, it's served me well.
When talking about the cotopaxi sling I like the part about keeping your phone in the open pocket. But yeah it can easily fall out. It sucks because my first sling was one of those super ugly oblong chest strap things. But it's COOLEST feature was an open, phone sized pocket at the top with a button strap over the top of it. Just pop the button and grab your phone. More modern slings need that.
I love the idea of a sling bag, but the security on most is very much lacking. Which is very disappointing. You put a lot of personal information and important items in the pockets and then put it on your back without being able to lock it and/or there being any slash protection. The only “security they offer is a back pocket that rests against your body.” Which is negated when the bag is cut off your person. Or the bag is hidden under your clothes and you can’t get to it when shopping anyway. There are only two brands, that I know of that offer slash proof, locking zippers and RFDI blocking and they are Travelon and Pacsafe. And most travel RU-vid videos only recommend Pacsafe. I don’t have around $100 or more to spend on a sling. That goes towards my trip.
Not too many guys want to carry purses, though. And the kind of carrier that slightly resembles a purse for men I think they rather call it a satchel or a messenger bag. But comparing a sling to a purse is like comparing hiking boots to high heels- they're both shoes.
I may be the only weird one here but I remember buying my first sling and getting a Patagonia, as I did my research further, I found that fishing slings are by far the best looking and most versatile sling for hike and travel, I bought (3) of them because they are so useful, Simms, Fishpond and Patagonia old model.
Does anyone know if the Eco 12L will fit the iPad Pro 12.9” with the Magic Keyboard and an Apple Pencil attached? The measurements look like it will fit the iPad but don’t consider the pencil, so I’m hoping someone has personal experience with it as I’ll have to order it online
Looking for a relatively small sling that fits my travel essentials Kindle, tabaco pouch, powerbank, charging cable, earbuds, phone, wallet, keys I want it as compact as possible (1-2 l), waterproof, and just a little organization Any recommendations? Would love it not to be black
I curious I never see a video saying how long is the sling especially for bigger men who doesn’t like to wear the sling so short Referring to the (tomtoc ) urban sling bag
Great video as usual. Got a question though, what Nintendo Switch travel case do you use? I have a Tomtoc slim hard case, which is pretty slim, but is still a tight fit in my CoB X-Pod II without expanding it. Thanks
I use a 5.11 push pack 6L shoulder bag that is to heavy and I search a 4-5L light shoulder or fanny bag (or other) with a massive internal organization (so I avoid carrying additional pouches). Thank you
I was thinking of getting myself a small sling. Not used to wearing one and not sure about them but think they be good for Holidays/Vacations and Day Trips and excursions. I like the Small Bellroy One here as I have a few minimal Bellroy Products now including Tech Pouch, Dopp Kit, Key Holder and several minimal wallets aswell as an iClip Wallet. So I don’t think I need it to carry much possibly sone sun screen and wallet, Phone and maybe a small bottle of water on Holiday. I also like the Lulumon, Osprey and the Votipaxi is a decent size although not sure about that flimsy pocket at the front of it. I think the Bellroy could be the best all rounder for me although tge Osprey is kind of like a mini backpack so could be more Versatile. 🎒😎👍🏼
Probably no longer of interest to you, but anyway: it’s a Hex bag. You can see their logo if you go frame by frame. Looks like it could be the Evolve sling.
You missed my favorite one! The Trakke Hande Crossbody. It's stylish, it squishes down when it's less full, but it's large enough to hold a beverage can, a small coffee tumbler, small umbrella, packable towel, portable bidet, etc. I seriously don't go anywhere without it now.
The no name cheaper bag are only good on picture. Their cheap has reason. I bought $20 bag early this year. the low quality make me do not want to use it even once. Personally, I think tomtoc is a good low budget option.
Great video guys! Lots of options when it comes to slings! I’d add the 2 versions of Thule Tact (5L and 8L) to this list though. They have nice features and durable materials! You should definitely consider them for a second video. 😉
@@PackHacker Hello Eric, we want to send you some of our products for you to test. How can I possibly contact you? Is it OK to ask for your email guys?
I found the name of this video and this website in general to cater to techies and gamers when it comes to sling bags. Thus the use of the word "travel" is misleading. The bags are usually filled with techie devices most travelers don't carry when touring San Francisco or day hiking Muir Woods, for example. Where is the bottle of water, rain jacket, vest or extra shirt?? I've never carried a Switch while whale watching on a boat, but did have my portable Canon Point and shoot camera. Sure, some stuff is relevant like hand sanitizer, battery backup and lip balm. Just some constructive criticism. Thanks for listening.
