Linkin Park should’ve been on the list! Chester Bennington’s songs with Linkin Park are literally about his mental health!

I know they aren’t about mental health but Rachel Platten literally saved my life. Years ago back in high school I almost committed suicide when both “Stand By You” and “Fight Song” came on the radio back to back. I just listened to the lyrics and realized I wasn’t alone and I needed to fight the pain I’ve been feeling. So thank you Rachel Platten.

Head Above Water is the best song Avril has written in years. Absolutely phenomenal.

The fact that “this is me trying” by Taylor Swift is not here is my villain origin story. That song has helped me through so much

"Fight Song." It's one of the songs I believe should be a theme song for anyone struggling to speak out about their mental health.

Anyone is such a deep song. Demi was crying out for help in that performance and no one was listening. 😩🥺

During the whole countdown, I just assumed that everybody hurts by R.E.M. would be number one. I can’t believe it is not even listed anywhere here.

Heavy by Linkin Park is a great song too. The lyrics are just so powerful with the opening line “ I don’t like my mind right now”. And the fact it was released after Chesters suicide always hit home with me

Three Linkin Park songs deserved honorable mentions: "Breaking the Habit", "Heavy" and "One More Light"

Personally, Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park has been my breakthrough song. It helped me through the darkest times of alcoholism. It served to remind me that I can break the habit and be free so thanks to the vocals of Chester and the powerful lyrics...am now two years sober. The other one is Strength of the Mind by Killswitch Engage. The part where Jesse Leach sings: I've seen rock bottom and I've smashed my fists against it Just keep telling yourself it will be alright...helps me to live a day at a time. It gets dark some days and other days,it is blissful. Watching this video helped me realise other songs to add to my list. Please add these two songs in a future MsMojo list on songs about mental health.

This is me trying by Taylor swift really helped me. It’s amazing and it highlights how everyday, people struggle with mental health issues and make the choice to keep trying because when you are struggling thats the hardest part and no one really appreciates that. It’s an amazing song

Most of the time, I listen to music for their catchy tunes. However, there are times where songs like Prince of Egypt’s When You Believe, Fight Song, Demi Lovato’s Warrior and Hurt just feels impactful for the meaning behind the lyrics. Thank you, Ms. Mojo

How can Godsmack, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch, Staind, or Rise Against not be on here? Godsmack and Disturbed have even each FOUNDED mental health non-profits

Rob Thomas's song Her Diamonds is about his wife's battle with an autoimmune disorder. I have never heard what we (people with AI disorders) and our families go through (both mentally and physically) put so truthfully and eloquently.

What about whiskey lullaby by grad paisley and Alison Krause? It deals with love relationships and the grief after losing a loved one. Also what about the song untitled by Simple Plan?

Matchbox twenty’s Unwell is my favorite song, and an amazing song supporting mental health

As a man who’s fought mental health issues and contemplated suicide, one song that really helps me is called Treat Myself by Victoria Justice. Please listen to it, it’s very soul smoothing. ❤️

Whitney Houston’s I look to you will FOREVER hit different for me personally. I remember falling in love with her music all over again as a kid then she made a mild comeback to pass away from OD so suddenly.. music is spiritual and I wish more artists.. true artists got recognition for that alone 💯🙌🏽

Eminem's Stan gets me every time I love the fact that he used this as a way to reach out to his fans it's not only really dark it also has an important message behind it not only a really good story but the message behind the song is amazing this is why I love and respect Eminem as an artist if he can't reach out with words he'll reach out in another way

Breathing from Ariana Grande and Head Above Water from Avril Lavigne and Hurt sung by Johnny Cash are the songs that kept me going.

F***ing Perfect by P!nk should have been on this list.

I was never able to listen to Skyscraper the same way after Demi’s documentary…. I’m very glad you mentioned Avril Lavigne’s Head Above Water, it’s such a great underrated song

"As Tears Go By" or "Paint It, Black" (Rolling Stones), "Fade to Black (Metallica) are beautiful and painful examples (although hardly pop culture). Really get to what a person *in* darkness is thinking/feeling. Supposedly people have told Metallica that their song saved them from suicide, feeling that there was at least someone else out there that understood.

As someone who suffers from mental health problems I love when artists are honest about mental health. I will say some of my favourite songs are by citizen solider who often discuss mental health in basically all their songs.

I still remember exactly when I first heard ‘Skyscraper’ even 11 years later. In that time I’ve been in and out of therapy, started meds, and been in and out of the hospital for suicide ideation and attempts. Today I wear ‘skyscraper’ permanently on my spine to remind myself to always stand tall. I’m so proud to be standing here, a warrior. I’m forever grateful to Demi and their music. ❤️

How are Kid Cudi and Linkin Park not on this list?!?!

Ah yes.. Sia Breath Me.. The most depressing song and all of the Simpsons history but also the most catchy and I didn’t even know she was Australian 🤯

Some of my favorite mental health songs are “Numb Little Bug” by Em Biehold, “Way Less Sad” by AJR, “Happier” by Marshmellow, and pretty much every song P!nk has done. “Hurts 2b Human”, “What about us”, “Beautiful Trama”, and “F***** Perfect” to name a few. Not every mental health song has to be about the lows of mental health. Sometimes we beat ourselves up too much especially in the recovery process and we don’t celebrate the little successes which can lead to spiraling down again.

How about that Matchbox 20 song... Unwell? I think that's what it's called. I remember hearing that frequently on the radio and it was clearly about mental health

"Mad World" by Tears for Fears - I was thinking that would be on this list. Excellent description of childhood depression

Huge miss the artist NF has multiple albums spanning across his mental health and course correction in life

Thanks so much for sharing these songs, they spread really positive Mental Health messages. I'm glad that Demi is doing better, their performance of "Skyscraper" really blew me away, they're so strong and incredibly resilient.

I hope they keeps on writing songs about dealing with mental health issues. I'm bi-polar and it' like living in a bunch of fun-house mirrors. Everything is distorted. I never know if I'm overreacting. Fortunately, I have a good psychiatrist and a good therapist.

Surprised that Creep by Radio Head, Loser by Beck, and Hold On by Wilson Phillips are all not on the list.

So, they are not mainstream, but there's an Irish band called "we banjo 3" (who, in fact has 4 members) and they have quite a few songs about their mental health struggles. the lead singer said "don't let me down" is a letter to himself when he's depressed. But it's kind of slow. my favorite is "happiness" 1. Because it is super upbeat and happy. 2. The tag line is "happiness is just around the corner" it doesn't try to belittle or dismiss sadness, but says it's temporary and can pass. Favorite line: "Cuz it rains and rains for days, then you wake up one bright morning all the rain has gone away" I'd recommend it for anyone who needs a pick me up and hope it helps. other ones are "light in the sky" and "haven"

You’re missing Beautiful by Christina Aguilera

I think dancing with the devil needs to be on a count down list especially sense it's about addiction.

One that probably doesn’t get enough recognition is Lullaby by Nickelback for me…stunning song by a band that doesn’t deserve the unjust hate they get

Back when I was introduced to the Beatles, Help! was one my favorite songs by them. I think it was my cry for help as well. So much was wrong at that point, not just my anxiety disorder. These days things are better.

I'm disappointed that not one of Linkin Park's songs are on here. Chester Bennington's songs are notorious for his battle with depression. I listened to LP throughout high school bc I related so much to their music.

I love “Anxiety” by Julia Michaels (featuring Selena Gomez). It’s exactly what I go through when I’m in an anxiety spiral or depressive episode

Deep depression and having a mental health problem is nothing to joke about and for those people who think that people are crazy but they're struggling with something going on with them emotionally you're the ones that need help deep depression and Suicidal Thoughts is nothing to joke about it's sad that we're just now talkin about this in the US a lot more but it's always been there

“Hold on till may” by Pierce the Veil and “stay together for the kids” by blink 182 and “hold on” by Good Charlotte are songs that can get me through tough times

As an African-American Bi Woman, I've been dealing with mental health issues since I was a teenager. It was a big struggle for decades until I got to the point where I finally got the help I needed. There's nothing wrong with asking for help, no matter what age, identity or race.

Kinda sad that there's nothing by NF on this list, particularly 'The Search'.

a few decades later, John Farnham did a slow ballad version of Help by The Beatles, and that hit harder once you deeply see the text and it's meaning.

Adam's song by blink 182 and How to save a life by The Fray

Johnny Cash made "Hurt" truly his own.

Breathe - Lee Hi (written by Jonghyun) I know these videos generally stick with English language music/film but I cannot recommend this song highly enough. You can feel the emotion of the song without speaking Korean, but the lyrics should be read/understood. It’s a song written to comfort people who are struggling, by someone who was struggling. Whenever I feel like I am too stressed or anxious to function properly, I listen to it and am overcome with a sense of relief. Jonghyun wrote many beautiful songs about his struggles with mental health, but this one is something else, and Lee Hi performs it with incredible feeling.

The logic 1-800 hits me the most

Men At Work's "Overkill" is my favorite mental-health awareness song. It encapsulates the feeling of sleepless depression so well while also being rock-solid musically

Alessia Cara is so under appreciated!! Aside from her song with Logic and Khalid, she has many other songs about mental health that are absolutely amazing! Like “Here” and “Scars to your Beautiful”

It’s not often that I feel compelled to comment on something. But, I do this time because I feel this is a very important topic to address. Thank you for making this list. This is definitely something For which I would love to see a top 20 follow up. If you do this, please consider including“Breathe (2 AM)“ by Anna Nalick. To me, this song is about going through something extremely difficult and reminding yourself to, Well, breathe, In order to cope with and eventually learn to accept circumstances that you cannot change. I have certainly used it for comfort throughout my own ongoing struggle with anxiety. It’s definitely underrated and perhaps A lot of us have forgotten about it, but it’s worth a listen once you’ve been through the songs mentioned here. And again in my opinion, it’s worth mentioning in a possible top 20 follow up. I think a lot of us out there would love to see one. So I hope whoever reads this at MsMojo agrees that a top 20 follow up would be an idea worth considering. As I said, if you do pursue this, I would highly recommend “breathe (2 AM)“ it has really helped me personally and it has become my go-to song when I need to pick-me-up.

Where is “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne??

One of my go to songs about mental health, and one that saved my life when I was in a deep depression, was “A Better Place, A Better Time” by Streetlight Manifesto. The powerfully direct line of “So you’re tired of living? You feel like you might give in? Well don’t. It’s not your time.” hit me in a way that not many songs did. The song is brutal and honest about its subject matter. And the heartbreaking “She said ‘Forget me,’ but I can’t” at the end hurts so much. And it’s all performed with an upbeat ska rhythm and loud brass, with dark yet clever lines like “I’ll draw your bath and I’ll load your gun, but I hope so bad that you’ll bathe and hunt.” It’s a brilliant song and deserves more praise.

The best song is Hold The Line by A R I Z O N A written by Avicii and released after his death. The song is so good and helped me so much.

Demi's performance of Anyone broke my heart for them. An artist I go to when I need to have a good cry is Samantha Gibb. Her albums "Wrong Side" & "Temptation" with The Cartel have some of the most beautiful songs to listen to when going through a moment of mental illness. Highly suggest that anyone who comes across this comment take a listen to those albums.

Step by Step by Whitney Houston is my go to 🎵 🎶song

Most people think Without You is just a lost love song, but the two writers of this ended their own lives, a decade apart, it's first taste of fame was being sung by someone with drink issues and the next time it was a hit, the singer was going through a troubled divorce with inevitable consequences. Sometimes the song can not only be an expression of the writers mental health problems, but cause problems, in fact there is a jazz song that is rarely sung because it is so bleak it upsets people who already have issues, but when someone writing of their mental health issues can help others, then those are the songs that we can all do with in this world.

I love me by Demi Lovato or dancing with the devil are breath taking songs and songs I relate to sooo much

Pinch Me by Barenaked Ladies - excellent portrayal of how depression can be disguised as indolence or being super chill and laid back.

A good chunk of the songs on that list aren't the type I listen to, however that is all the better. Mental health is an important issue and the more people that cover it the better. I've battled with depression and social anxiety my whole life. Sometimes you feel alone, even when you aren't, and hearing about the struggles of others can help. To feel that you aren't the only one going through this and if you keep pressing forward things can get better.

How is NF's entire body of work not here? All cuz an artist ain't mainstream, don't exclude their stuff. Stop choosing only popular artists for your lists and do more research.

Damn. The way they discuss "Help" and show all the silliness in contrast to John's sullen face.. That feels like every fucking interaction I have with other people. Why did this video come out when my depression is at an all-time low?? And they mentioned Rose-Colored boy.. They really have these algorithms tuned.

I absolutely love the Johnny cash version of hurt this song helped me when I was going through severe depression when I was a teenager

Lithium by Evanescence deserves to be on here. Amy Lee wrote it all by herself about not wanting to become numb from medication. Sometimes the worst pain isn't even the depression but the drugs we take to treat it. It's such an affecting song.

Also "This Depression" by Bruce Springsteen is about his struggles with depression.

Jet black heart by 5SOS was released the week before I lost my dad and honestly got me through one of the worst moments of my life

Disturbed “A Reason to Fight” is the greatest song of all time for anyone struggling with mental illness. So powerful. It will change your life. ❤️❤️❤️

I feel like this could've been an easy 20 songs list. There's several by NF and Ryan Caraveo, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace and more artists that really hit home for mental health.
