Watch the whole video. This is a list of songs that gained a resurgence based on their being included in a movie. It doesn't matter whether or not they were popular or obscure before their being included in these soundtracks.
@deg0ey
@deg0ey 7 лет назад
To be fair, it does seem like that positioning was based on the US market. Bohemian Rhapsody was rereleased in the UK following Freddie Mercury's death in November 1991, reached number 1 (for the second time) in December 1991 and stayed there until mid-January 1992. Hard to say it was in need of much resurgence by the time Wayne's World was released three weeks later. That said, the impact of Wayne's World on the song's standing in US popular culture can't be understated and is definitely a big part of its success in North America.

Quite a few songs that either deserved honorable mention or to be among the top ten. What I understood was these movies either made the song popular or led to a revival in their popularity. Well, what about Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman"? That was a big hit for Orbison in the '60s and I recall it being all over the place when the movie came out in the '90s. And I also thought about the Temptations "My Girl", again when that movie came out that song saw a lot of play time. "Forrest Gump" would be a great one to find a lot of songs off of.

@richardgreenleaf3259
@richardgreenleaf3259 5 лет назад
Nothing wrong with that, it is a good movie. Might point out "Back to the Future" also included "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" by Fess Parker, the Four Aces cover of "Mr. Sandman", and "Earth Angel" preformed by the movies fictional Marvin Berry and the Starlights featuring Marty McFly. Though unlike "Johnny B. Goode" none of these really enjoyed any kind of resurgence in popularity. By contrast I thin "Back to the Future II did include Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55", both of which were out years before the movie was made.

Not so, Chelsea. In fact, none of the S&G songs on the soundtrack were written for the film. The closest to that claim would be "Mrs. Robinson" which was a rewrite of an incomplete song titled "Mrs. Roosevelt." S&G offered this song to director Mike Nichols only after he rejected the two songs that the duo HAD written for the film. Because of this, the song "Mrs. Robinson" was considered ineligible for consideration for an Academy Award. However, the instrumentals on the soundtrack by Dave Grusin were written for the film.

I'd have to say that the indisputable champion of a small-time hit song gone insane on film has got to go to "Oh Yeah" by Yellow. This song was released by the German band on Elektra records in 1985. It went to #51 on the US Billboard 100 and #36 on the US Dance Chart. The next year it was used in the soundtrack of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and then caught cinematic fire that's still burning to this day. The are 82 Film and TV credits for it on IMDb from 1986 through 2021. It's also appeared in many TV commercials including a Honda ad with Matthew Broderick that aired during the Superbowl. It even appears in the game Gran Turismo 4. The band literally gave up music after it appeared in Ferris Bueller and the writer/singer has amassed a 175 million dollars of wealth from starting the sequencer and sayin "Oh Yeah", Can you say Holy O Yeah?! A Sample of Film Appearances Planes, Trains & Automobiles She's Out of Control Not Another Teen Movie The Adventures of Ford Fairlane Opportunity Knocks American Pie: The Book of Love Spider-Man: Homecoming A Sample of TV Appearances The Simpsons The Office South Park It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia The Tonight Show SNL

Adam Bergstrom Apparently people find to understand that the list is not restricted to obscure tracks, but to tracks that got a surge of popularity because of their presence in a motion picture. I mean, it's not like they say so in the beginning of the video or anything. Let me explain it simpler. It's not a list of indie or unknown tracks that met fame because of a movie. It's just a list of tracks that GAINED (says so even in the title) popularity via their presence in a movie. When you say "I'm gaining speed" you're not referring to the fact that you go from stationary to moving, but that your speed is increasing.

Best video as for the last months ! But I have to emphasize that all songs were famous before, the movies gave them an extra new juicy life coil, a new boost.

Hooked on a feeling was already iconic decades before guardians of the galaxy and was even in Shrek 2 in the 2004. Bohemian Rhapsody was a HUGE hit on the billboards in 1975 when it came out.

I'd say Reservoir Dogs did more for Hooked on a Feeling than Guardians even.

Only in the UK. Elsewhere it didn't even chart until 76, and barely broke the top 10 in the US.

+DarttheLegend that is Dan Tyminski singing and the lyrics were probably written about the time that Clooney's grandparents were born.
