The planets are named like that in order to catelogue them, using Gliese 436 b as an example, the first part is usually named after the telescope or survey that found it, in this case Gliese is from William Gliese a German astronomer, who created a catelogue of nearby stars. The number is the order in which the star was cateloged by position, so in this it's the 346th star. Finally the "b" is the part that refers to the actual planet, in the order it was found, ensuing planets are named c, d, e, and so on.

I've legit had dreams where I've jumped off planets and left the gravitational orbit and flew into dark space without any control.

Escape velocity, the velocity or speed that is minimum requirement to escape the gravitational field of a planet, is around 11km/s for earth and for moon it is around 3 km/s So you will need to jump faster than escape velocity to ensure you escape the gravitational orbit

Please react to the Kurzgesagt channel's videos on the Fermi paradox, it's the scientific answer to Josh's question "The universe is too big to _not_ have aliens, so why can't we see them?"

Just to explain sinply explain how these are found, it basically comes down to light. They use the light from what ever star it orbits and when the planet passes over our view of the star, it makes a shadow. Then you use the light that gets reflected from the atmosphere to us to tell chemical comp and stuff like that.
