Hey Mary, there's a "WhatsApp" scammer posing as yourself requesting that your peoples message you. Check the reply to my 'heart' comment I left you, you'll see what I'm talking about. I suggest you report them to RU-vid, and tell your RU-vid community in a video (so they know it's really you) to warn them about these scammers. A lot of people fall for this. And not all scammers will pose as you nor will they be from WhatsApp.

Can you buy the Whole Flax & Golden Flax as meal and store in air tight, or sealed jars? Or are they already depleted by the time I get home from store? Which makes no sense how can the best buy date still be almost as many years out as whole? None have gone rancid, but my storage room/house is never over 76-78 w/low humidity if possible, due to health conditions. They are just part of a yogurt mix I prep weekly. I can't find a way to home grind in bulk, small enough I don't choke, can't chew seeds. Had to loss last attempt.

Another plug for raw honey here. One day my twin nieces both had sore throats. One of them started making what she called honey tea, which was just some warm water with honey mixed in. She had it several times throughout the day. She kept offering it to her sister, who said no every time. The next day they were taken to the doctor to be tested for strep. The one who turned her nose up at the "honey tea" was positive for strep, while the one who drank it several times the day before did not have strep. They shared a room with the head of their beds right next to each other and did everything together. Literally the only difference was the honey in warm water. Raw honey is AMAZING!

One thing that I would like to point out about ghee and coconut oil is that they need to be kept clean. Use only a clean spoon to measure it out. Don't dip some out, use the spoon to stir something, then dip the same spoon back in. This introduces contaminants that will ruin your ghee or coconut oil. I made ghee that someone else used and used a dirty spoon. I ended up having to throw out half a pint of ghee because it grew black mold. If you want it to last, keep it clean.

My mom gave my brother and me cod liver oil year round (late 40’s/early 50’s) to prevent rickets. We lived in North Dakota where there’s little sun available in the winter for vitamin D source. One year we all got polio, and my brother and I had only minor symptoms, my mother was really sick but recovered. But my dad had really bad symptoms, including paralysis. He had to be hospitalized for months, and gradually recovered, but was never as strong as he was before. Now with new information about vitamin D, I believe that the cod liver oil may have mitigated my brother’s and my symptoms of polio. 🙏

When you mentioned using apple cider vinegar in a beverage, I immediately thought of Little House on the Prairie cookbook. Ma used to make Ginger Water for Pa when he was working outside during the summer. Probably much healthier for replacing electrolytes than some of these processed beverages folks drink today.

Make your own drink from dried hibiscus flowers (agua de Jamaica). You can get hibiscus at any Mexican or international supermarket. A few flowers will make plenty of agua de Jamaica and you can reuse the flowers 2 or 3 times if they are strong. They are also edible and once they have been used up for agua de Jamaica, you can make taco filling out of them.

You've given some great tips for being prepared for any type of emergency. And you've done so in a non-panic-inciting way - thank you for that! I've been a stocker from way back. We're a retired military family who was stationed overseas at a geographically separated area far away from an American commissary. I learned then to stock up. Since retiring and returning to the US, keeping stocked cupboards of food and other supplies has carried us through job loss and illness several times. I've also learned to be creative in where to shop. Living overseas for several years introduced us to other brands and foods available only outside the US that we've grown to love. I've been fortunate to be able to locate those imported goods as well as American goods at places such as Ross, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Marshall's - often for less than in our regular grocery stores. I also frequent our area discount grocery stores.

I am so glad that you found the mushrooms at Costco. I recently was in touch with the company (in France), to ask about extending the shelf life of these mushrooms. Specifically, I wanted to know if they dried their mushrooms to less than 10% moisture. They got back with me and said putting them in mylar or glass jar with O2 absorber would be safe. I am very impressed with the types of mushrooms they use, the way they dry them AND their customer service. Hope you enjoy them. ❤️

Honey 🍯! I’ve never believed in a superfood so much!! I’m a first time momma and my 2.5 year old has had terrible sinus and throat congestion for the past year. It was only recently that I started giving him PB&HONEY sandwiches for lunch (we were out of jelly) and wow! Within a few days his congestion and drippy nose eased and disappeared. After a week I started making him PB&Jelly sandwiches again and his sinuses started acting up again 😮 I know he has allergies 🤧 I just don’t know what they are yet but I plan on getting him tested. Tip for Cod Liver Oil: buying canned Cod Liver is also an option. It's very high in fat so you may not be able to eat all of it in one sitting. But it's soft like pudding and has only a very slight ocean taste. It's a once-a-week treat for me whenever I cannot afford good quality CLO or just cant find any of it :)

@@painiacs83 you store the seeds to sprout. Similar to storing grains. Only with seeds you can put in a jar and vacuum seal it.

Thanks for sharing. We're doing well. Got a cotton quilt in the correct size. Ordered new bras. Allergic to two of them. One is polyester and the other is nylon. Still waiting on two natural fiber ones. I've mostly been eating vegetables to flatten my stomach which is what I did to do so before. It was flat after I was given the okay to exercise after giving birth to Daniel and lost when I got pregnant with Thomas.

Mary, I have a question regarding the good cheesecloth & cotton towels, which you use for straining broths & stocks: do you rinse them in the sink & then wash them with the other kitchen linens, or do have a separate treatment, altogether, for them. I have the towels, I love them, and the better cheesecloth which is hemmed, so it seems as if I should conserve it. I’m definitely not a newbie, but I’ve always just used kitchen sieves lined with inexpensive cheesecloth, for straining. I like your approach of waste not want not. Your advice is absolutely invaluable, & your friendly approach & non-judgemental advice is a breath of fresh air, in these days of discord. Thank you for forging on, steady & true. 😊😊

Thank you so much for the kind words. Generally, I rinse my flour sack towels very well. Then I put them in a wash tub in my sink with very hot water and just a little bit of a natural dishwashing liquid. Just a drop. I give them a really good swishing and let them soak for about an hour. Then I ring them out and wash them with the rest of my dish towels. I used to wash them separately with Clorox but then some of the viewers here gave me a great tip. They told me to stop using Clorox because it would cause my flour sack towels to deteriorate quicker. And I think that was a good point because I noticed some of them had a little holes in them. They told me instead to use some white vinegar - about a half cup to one cup mixed with about a quart of water and then dumped into my washing machine along with my washing of my other dish rags and dish cloths. It works great - everything comes out fresh smelling and very clean and bright in color whether white or colored. Keep in mind though most of my dish towels are very old so I don’t need to worry about colors running. However, that said, I do wash all my red dish towels separately. Hope this helps. Love, Mary

I've been stockpiling for two years now. It looks like shortages will start occurring in about 2 weeks, throughout the supply chain. NOT just food. People would be wise to also get batteries, candles, bleach, water purifying tablets, containers to store water, paper towels, soap, laundry soap, toilet paper, tissues, cold medicine, cough drops, and one I also didn't hear you mention in your very good series on prepping, was instant potato flakes. They have a decent shelf life and an fill a belly. Instant gravy packets, Spam, pepperoni, salami, bread crumbs, glass jarred olives, jarred jalapenos, hot chili sauce, pickled beets, pickled vegetables, water glassing FRESH eggs, instant yeast, toothpaste, hand lotion, and an emergency medial kit are all good items, too. Great series, Mary. I listened for hours yesterday as I painted a canvas. I have most of what you mentioned. I will be looking for popping corn! haha I have the bagged corn for microwaving, but the other would be great. Also, just thinking... sweetened condensed milk would be good, too. I think we'll be seeing this last for a good year. I also bought jarred chopped garlic. It has a shelf life in to 2024!

Sweet Mary, thank you for this wonderful list! I get so tired of preppers who say stock spam and canned food. I'm grateful I have almost all of these things in my pantry. I've been teaching people for years so many of the tips you mention! I sold the top high speed blender in the world for 8 years b4 quarantine and am passionate about getting people to make healthier choices that are fast and easy (one of the reasons I adore your channel!) This year I decided to grow my own tulsi/ holy basil, and will continue for future (there's one for your medicinal herbs you should grow list ;) ). I just ordered Moringa last week when they were on sale. I just need the cod liver oil now...will check Vitacost next time they have a sale ;). Oh, and I've started stocking some quinoa too ...it's a gluten free grain and protein rolled into one ;).

Dehydrating liver is easy and safe. When it snaps, it’s done. All you need to do is put it in a high speed blender or coffee mill and turn it into powdered form. I encapsulate mine in large batches, then keep only a small amount out in the fridge for everyday doses and freeze the rest. Take 3-6 750mg. capsules daily.

One note to recommendations to keep dried fruits on hand. Most dried fruits are not diabetic safe. Sugar in fruit undergoes crustallization in the drying process, which can take the fresh fruits that are good for z diabetic in moderation and turn them into something that causes your blood glucose levels to spike (go up quickly, and high). One dried fruit that is less prone to cause spikes if you eat a small amount only is apricots. They're absolutely delicious, and two or three of them should be safe for most diabetics.

Glad you mentioned specific variety & reason for it. The "cheap" type of cinnamon recently caused a toxicity reaction with my home health client (she uses a lot of it on her oatmeal). Using the real ceylon type fixed that problem.
