Dolores doesn’t have a gift rather a curse, I mean superhearing in a house with two married couples. Not to mention pepa, the whole town would know how the marriage was going if Y’know how I mean Also holy cow surface pressure relates to me hard, all while definitely relating to meirbel and her acting happy and extroverted as inside her mind is chaos

You mentioned 2 of Hercules' labors from Greek mythology, but everyone seems to miss a third reference. Luisa is asked to reroute the river right before the guy says that the donkeys got out again. The First Labour of Hercules was to clean the Agean Stables, which were said to house so many horses that it was filthy again before anyone could finish cleaning it. Hercules solved this problem by rerouting a river to wash out the stable.

Though a bit of a stretch, her gathering the donkeys could also be a reference to the tenth labor: Capture the Cattle of Geryon
@ValeriaHernandez-06
@ValeriaHernandez-06 2 года назад
Yeah. Also I hate that people always says that the references of greek mythology are to the movie of 1997. That Hercules movie wasnt even accurate and only by checking the real mythology people can understand better. The last labor he did was to take out Cerberus out of the underworld so the reference could mean in this like she always feel that she has to do it no matter how hard or dangerous it is. That no one else can so she has to do it. Since the labors for Hercules were so he could be forgiven for killing his sons and wife, they were imposed and were putted by the expectation that he die doing them. With Luisa could just be more like no one actually cared that they were hurting her with all that pressure.

When I first watched this a month ago, I felt connected to Luisa, where she feels like an outcast/ not like other women, because of her strength. I'm not tall (I'm 5ft) or jacked (but I do love working out and biking). All my life, I was a tomboy, and would sometimes feel self conscious that I didn't look like "other girls." But I know now that how somebody else perceives isn't the most important, but how you value and care for yourself is what matters most. Oh! And Stephanie Beatiz's singing voice is breathtaking and makes me melt and makes me want to watch Brooklyn 99 just for her. My second favorite character(s) from the movie are Bruno's rats. They are just too darn stinkin cute!!!!!!!!!
@kevinsims5791
@kevinsims5791 2 года назад
I noticed that when bruno was displaying his rats to maribel with the cards, the telenovela card was extra funny since the rat in the female head jumped out and another rat took its place 🤣. This was perfect since telenovelas are so dramatic with cheating partners and getn new ones lol.

The donkeys always get me. They're adorable and so chill and I love their expressions. Lusia just picks them up and throws them around and they're fine with it. Like it's been happening for years. No doubt Lusia has been carrying donkeys around since she was five and received her gift. At the end of surface pressure they even line themselves up on a board so she can throw them up in the air and catch them all at once. At first it's cute and funny. Likely the donkeys are used to being beasts of burden themselves and enjoy someone else carrying them around for awhile. But then you realize that the town sees Lusia as their beast of burden and it gets sad. She's 19 and got her gift at 5. That's 14 years that she's had to do this job and no one has bothered to train the donkeys, train a herding dog, or fix the damn fence. They just figure Lusia will do it. It's sad. I have to pay more attention the next time I watch the movie but I can't recall anyone saying please or thank you to her. I mean I get how rerouting the river can be useful, but she moved that church like what 10ft? Why was that even necessary?

In my own personal opinion, when Mirabel was saying “I will move the mountains” and all that stuff that her family can do with their gifts, I think she was saying that if she was to receive a gift herself she would put it to use to make it as important and helping as everyone else’s
@Enaronia
@Enaronia 2 года назад
Yes, that's what she says. It's also foreshadowing. She does all the things she says she will do--moves a mountain (shatters it, even--and that's the literal mountain, she also moves Abuela which is a bigger accomplishment), makes new trees and flowers bloom, heals what's broken, and shows the family something new. All four items, checked off her to-do list.

I got a bit of a smile when Mirabel's dad, upon finding the broken prediction, tells Mirabel, "No one has to know." I think this was a deliberate homage to the song "Nobody Needs To Know" from The Last Five Years (which Lin-Manuel Miranda also quoted in the song "Say No To This" in Hamilton).

What I appreciated about Luisa is that she was a strong woman who was still allowed to be FEMININE! Femininity tends to be shown as a sign of weakness; I know because I wear dresses almost all the time and yet people are surprised when they see me lift anything remotely heavy. Luisa was muscular, yes, but also had a woman's shape, wore a dress and a ribbon in her hair & cared about her appearance. (Side note: I had trouble noticing ANYTHING in the introduction song; it went so fast I couldn't focus on anything. It was one of the many things that disappointed me about the movie.)

The details in Disney movies are absolutely amazing. I'm very proud to recognise almost all of the Only-Adult-Notice-Things. Mostly because I'm only 16 years old. The two I didn't knew were: The Football match (cause I was born in 2006, which is long after the match) and the Wednesday / We don't talk about that moment (cause I never learnt Spanish in school: I live in the Netherlands).

Luisa isn’t just relatable to older siblings and feminists. She loves her family and tries to do everything she can to help her family and keep them safe but things keep piling on and piling on and piling on and she, being a human being, starts to get overwhelmed but doesn’t want anyone to know she’s getting overwhelmed because she feels like that would be letting her family down which leaves her with this unbearable “pressure” lying just “under the surface” and that strikes a chord with a whole lot of people. She may be one of the most relatable characters Disney has ever created!

Wait! I’m sorry but Mirabel isn’t in denial, he gift is breaking down barriers. Abuela’s gift is creating barriers - the Encanto, the casita, the rooms each person gets. Mirabel literally breaks all of those barriers and it isn’t until the end when she adds her door knob that casita comes back to life, because she made the house one for EVERYONE. Her feeling like less than in the beginning is because she was told she had no gift and the familial pressure from abuela. She’s not in denial, if anything she is the only reason the gift will keep going.

An adult joke I noticed is that in Columbian culture, when someone says it looks like rain to someone on their wedding day, that means you think their going to get divorced. Bruno meant it as a joke, but that's why Peppa got so upset. Another detail I noticed, this one about Camillo, is he genuinely is a nice person, but he doesn't do many things by himself, except for when his parents are around. Like, he only really does work when asked, and then only as someone else, because he's been taught the only thing about himself that is useful is his gift, meaning he's not useful, the people he shapeshifts into are the useful ones. Like, even on their family tree you can only see his head, because he's swishing his yellow cape thing.

For me and my family (we're all Colombian) the "war" is actually The Violence, it was a period of a kind of civil was with political undertones during the 50s. People would flee their homes because of the Party they supported. My mom even said "Los chulavilas" (a common name for Blue Party members, conservadores) when the men in horses appeared. It is closer to us than the 1000 days war, but I guess both make sesse.

As an adult, I was quite pleased with myself for catching a LOT of the Encanto details mentioned here. But not all of them. I caught Peppa's quirks right away. She openly displayed quite a few characteristics of people with chronic anxiety. She strokes her hair over and over. She repeats a mantra ("clear skies, clear skies") whenever she starts stressing out. She gets angry if you bring attention to the manifestation. I know people with severe anxiety disorders and I recognized this right away the first time I saw the movie. But I didn't get it all. For example, when Augustin said "Miércoles." When I heard that I immediately looked it up, so I knew he said Wednesday, but I sure didn't know why. Now I know, thanks to MsMojo (Thanks!), why he said that. It's like when the French say "sacré blu!," which literally translates to "holy blue," which doesn't make any sense. But at one time (and I'm not going to look it up for this comment) one of the French Kings made taking the lord's name in vain a capital offense. So it became illegal to say "sacré dieu," which means "holy god" like you might say in the heat of the moment when you smash your thumb with a hammer or stub your toe. People caught sating it would claim that they were NOT swearing using the name of god but the name of the king's dog, Blue, instead.

I was wondering if anyone picked up on the fact Abuela kept hitting the alcohol. It took the third time seeing it to realize she had a thing for wine. There was one other thing that me and a few others thought with Pepa too. The triplets are 50. Antonio is 5, so it made me wonder if he was an oops baby at first since Pepa would've been 45, the cusp of soon to hit menopause. Yet someone said to me that what if she was made to have Antonio by Abuela considering Mirabel's gift ceremony went horribly wrong and she didn't want her eldest to have another child in case the next one wouldn't have a gift but had Pepa have another to keep it going on.
