I liked the scene where Ariel was naked after her transformation, that scene was my sexual awakening. I wished she stayed that way the whole movie only wearing her bra and the movie still getting a G or PG rating. She looks better naked. That look where she is nude only wearing her bra should be a signature outfit. Growing up I always wished I was with her and we be both naked together.

The chains aren’t chains they are harnesses like with horses - however the fact that fish and dolphins are pulling them is very odd. Though it’s not apparent in the movie that I recall maybe Ariel isn’t allowed to tell Eric who she is even by writing? Or maybe she can only sign her name…

other FYI's: 1. Chef Louis's VA is a descendant of Napoléon Bonaparte 2. Triton is mostly from Greek myth, and his entirety match some of the myth descriptions: a. son of Poseidon, hence his physical attributes b. god of the sea, hence his powers c. lives in a golden palace d. (sometimes) wields the trident (mostly used by his father Poseidon; his usual attribute was a conch shell) 3. the extended version of the first song (with the sailors) explain that Ursula was Triton's sister and prior to their fallout lived in the same palace 4. Ariel is also not a good mother, as her treatment of Melody negates part of "Part of Your World": Bet'cha on land they understand / *Bet they don't reprimand their daughters*

@jonnyboy4289 Год назад
@ryan jones What about Ariel having more girl power and female empowerment and won't be defined by needing a man/a man's love in response to Ariel being a helpless damsel in distress? The writers did confirm that (despite Ariel outswimming a shark, destroying Ursula's eels in the climax, and saving Prince Eric 2 times) Ariel will have more girl power and female empowerment and won't be defined by needing a man/a man's love in the upcoming live action remake. I'm not making it up.
@beethovensfidelio
@beethovensfidelio Год назад
@ryan jones Ariel will still have red hair and a purple top. It may not be a purple seashell bra, but it’s not a shirt either.
@beethovensfidelio
@beethovensfidelio Год назад
@@jonnyboy4289 MAYBE when the writers said “Ariel won’t be defined by a man”, they meant that Ariel will be focused on exploring the human world, since that part got glossed over due to Ariel having to get a kiss from Eric within 3 days. Ariel never got to ask have her questions about the human world answered. Furthermore, in Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale of the same name, the little mermaid had to learn the hard way that she didn’t need a man to make her dreams come true, since she can’t force the prince to love her back and she was instead able to obtain an immortal soul by becoming an air spirit. Contrast the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” with the story of “Undine” in which the titular water nymph successfully married a human knight in order to gain an immortal soul.
@beethovensfidelio
@beethovensfidelio Год назад
@ryan jones Also, race swapping Ariel is nothing new. Auli’i Cravalho, who is of Native Hawaiian, Puerto Rican, Portuguese, Chinese, and Irish descent, played Ariel in ABC’s “The Little Mermaid Live”. Not to mention that Diana Huey, who is of Japanese descent, played Ariel in the 5th Avenue Theatre production of “The Little Mermaid” in Downtown Seattle. Although Diana and Auli’i are not natural redheads, they were still able to play Ariel because red wigs exist.

#8 Come on its a cartoon which goes against logic, cut Flounder a break. #7 It all cause of the spell and nothing else, as you'll do anything for the one who bewitch u. #5 We might get an answer about Ursula in the palace in the upcoming movie this spring. #2 Maybe Triton didn't know Ursula kept some of his people as seaweeds. It was said in her song they go to her but r unable to pay their depts. #1 Don't agree with that, she was just teasing him, as friends do that to each other, and they both forgot about the concert. As for another thing adults would notice, the first poster on vhs covers 📼 with Triton and Ursula besides the castle, has a penis as one of the towers.
@tiffanygray

I agree. I love MsMojo, but sometimes they take cartoons and Disney movies way too seriously. I feel like too many people nitpick at these ridiculous details. What people forget is, it's make believe. It's not real, and it doesn't have to be realistic. Also, I'm with you on number one. I never saw Ariel as a bad friend, even as an adult. I feel like the best of friends can tease and insult each other relentlessly just for the fun of it. That's how I am with my friends, and that's how they are with me. We're just trying to make each other laugh.

But hey, if you play stupid games like giving up your voice, mutilating your body, and leaving your family for a guy you barely know, then you win stupid prizes like heartbreak and sea foam. At least the mermaid gets to redeem herself by reincarnating as an air spirit who can obtain an immortal soul through performing 300 years of good deeds, therefore, her destiny is in HER HANDS, instead of the hands of her prince, whom she’s better off without since he treated her like a pet, as evidenced by having her sleep on a velvet cushion outside of his door, because apparently he couldn’t give her a nice bed to sleep on.

@@beethovensfidelio personally, I think MsMojo was going a little too heavy on comparing Disney's Little Mermaid to The Tempest, just because they used the name Ariel. It's more a combo of HCA's original tale and maybe Romeo and Juliet, but only because Triton didn't want his daughter to have anything to do with humans. So I lean more towards them naming Sebastián after the music composer, since he played the role of the composer.

I find it ironic that your #1 pick (SPOILER ALERT) that Ariel is not a good friend (aka a stupid jerk) is coicendenlty why people have a grudge with this movie because Ariel is a stupid jerk (from putting her friends and family in danger and being an ungrateful brat to her father and not caring about them and being selfish), dooming the world, relies on others to save her, and doesn't change or learn her lession in the end (something that John Musker admitted claiming that Ariel has no arc while Sabastian and Triton do) thus dismissing Ariel as a badly written, passive, and unlikable protagonist and the original film a bad movie as a whole (which really makes my blood boil as this movie started the Disney Renesance and it should deserve the same amount of love as Aladdin or The Lion King and Ariel is one of my favorite characters for how she's an active girl with guts and a backbone instead of a weak and helpless damsel in distress like Princess Peach or Sleeping Beauty).

Oh boy, why does everyone say that Ariel is a horrible living being ? Do they prefer the one from the original story where she lost her prince and died of sea foam ?

Ariel is a terrible role model because she’s a graverobbing anthropologist who fetishizes a culture she knows nothing about, and she never takes responsibility for the messes she made, since she only apologized to her father because she got CAUGHT signing a bad contract and she relies on her father AND Eric to risk their lives to confront Ursula on Ariel’s behalf. Despite all the trouble she caused, Ariel still got rewarded with a pair of legs and a marriage to Eric. Contrast all that with the fairy tale where the mermaid turned into sea foam after the prince married someone else. I know that sounds harsh, but fairy tales aren’t meant to be pleasant. 😂 If you play stupid games like giving up your voice and home for a boy you barely know, then you’ll win stupid prizes like turning into sea foam. (Then again, it helps that the mermaid reincarnated as an air spirit who could obtain an immortal soul by performing 300 years of good deeds)

I’ll admit I’m biased because my favorite movie mermaid is Madison from “Splash”, which was released under Disney’s adult facing label “Touchstone Pictures”. It’s weird how “Splash” PREDATES Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” by five years because “Splash” feels like a response to the criticisms of “The Little Mermaid”. 😂 Madison is more headstrong than Ariel, since she pursues her human boyfriend Allen ON HER OWN VOLITION, unlike Ariel who only went to Ursula due to being traumatized by her father King Triton destroying her collection of human artifacts since it’s clear that her love for Prince Eric and obsession with human culture would never be tolerated under the sea. Madison is more resourceful and self-reliant on land than Ariel, as evidenced by *the mute Madison teaching herself English by watching TV for six hours so she can communicate with Allen; Madison being able to skate in one try despite never being exposed to ice;* and *Madison convincing the male construction workers that in exchange for her necklace, the male construction workers will bring the mermaid fountain up to Allen’s apartment because Madison knows how much the fountain means to Allen* (either Madison has really good negotiation skills or that necklace is worth as much Rose’s “Heart Of the Ocean” necklace from “Titanic” 😂). Madison is physically stronger than Ariel in terms of *rescuing Allen from drowning no less than THREE times throughout the movie; swimming hundreds of miles from Cape Cod to Liberty Island, so she can be with Allen; and fending herself from military divers in the finale (e.g. Madison uses her fish tail to hit the divers in the face and crotch; Madison rips off the divers’ masks, presumably drowning them; and Madison rapidly swims in a circle in order to disorient the divers with her bubbles).* Madison not only seems to be more in charge of her own sexuality than Ariel, but also Madison can kiss Allen as if it’s the most natural thing in the world to her; contrast that with Ariel who doesn’t bother trying to seduce Eric, let alone get a kiss from him (at least not without Sebastian teaching her how to kiss and flap her eyelashes; and not without the musical intervention of Ariel’s animal friends). And that’s not getting into how Ursula slut-shamed Ariel by calling Ariel “the little tramp”. 😬 It also helps that unlike Ariel who spied on Eric from afar and was convinced that Eric was the one for her despite knowing nothing about him, Madison had already met Allen when they were LITTLE KIDS, and even though the two never shared a verbal conversation, obviously due to being underwater, the young Madison could still sense the young Allen’s KIND, LOVING NATURE towards her as evidenced by *Allen reaching out his hand for Madison to grab and Allen staring happily into Madison’s eyes.* Yes, the prologue in “Splash” is very much a “love at first sight” scenario, but it’s meant to show that Allen and Madison were destined to be together, as they both waited 20 years to reunite as adults and consummate their love. Lastly, unlike Ariel, Madison doesn’t give up her world to be with Allen on land, but rather ALLEN gives up his world to be with Madison 🎶under the sea🎶.

The person who narrated missed the point of #7. Eric did not choose to marry Vanessa....Ursula hypnotized him so he would marry her, Ariel becomes her slave, she likely would rule over the ocean, then she would kill Eric to inherit his kingdom and wealth. EDITED TO ADD: I see the narrator mentioned the trance state. I will say she has a point on Ariel since he was immediately smitten with her after she rescued him.

1. Eric was being mind controlled by Ursula, logic goes out the window. 2. Ariel is 16 in the movie. She’s naive. So knowing better isn’t her first thought My only issues with this list

I have to stick up for Ariel, King Triton, and Eric here. For one thing Ariel didn’t just give the name Flounder to Flounder for it was never once revealed in the movie that she ever named him for it could be his own actual name just like Sebastian is Sebastian. Another thing too is Ariel never once peer pressured Flounder into missing out on the concert. It was revealed later in the movie when they were with Scuttle that she and Flounder forgot that the concert was on that day and that it was happening. As for bringing Flounder into danger with sharks, well, Ariel didn’t even know that a shark would even appear. She knows the ocean pretty well so she could have assumed that she knew when sharks would appear yet it turned out she was wrong. She is a naive teenager after all. She only calls Flounder a guppy because she wants to encourage Flounder to be braver and when Flounder sticks his tongue out at the shark and the shark scared him once more and Ariel calls him a guppy once more. Again she knows that the shark is caught in the anchor and is only telling Flounder that there’s absolutely nothing to be afraid of. As for King Triton he’s absolutely terrified that the human possessions that Ariel has is going to lead her down a dangerous path of being with humans so that’s why he destroys them. It isn’t until later that he realizes and deeply regrets his mistakes. As for the fish like the dolphins who work for him honestly I never once ever saw them as slaves. I just always saw them as dolphins or fish who just wanted a job to work at the palace and King Triton as well as Sebastian gave them those jobs. Now Eric’s turn. I didn’t get the number 7 entry at all. How is it that the narrator actually mentioned that it wasn’t entirely Eric’s fault to getting married to Vanessa aka Ariel for he was underneath Ariel’s spell yet questions his decisions on why he has a wedding set up all in one day and he marries her? He’s hypnotized! The third day when the sunset comes Ariel is going to be a mermaid and not a human anymore so obviously to get that to happen and to hopefully get the kiss from Eric and stall time. She wants Eric to marry her all in one day especially to keep Ariel away from her actually achieving her goal to stay a human forever. Obviously she is going to do that all in one day and is going to have the spell make him follow her every bidding. How in any way is that Eric’s fault? That makes no sense! Honestly, no offense to Ms Mojo, but in some entries it really felt like either the narrator or the channel didn’t watch or understand the movie at all. Also don’t underestimate kids, Ms Mojo.😏😉 lol I say that because ever since I was a little girl I always wondered how on earth Flounder carried that statue and brought into that cave! I would always try to come up with ideas and just say movie logic. XD Also ever since I was a little girl I always longed to know more about Ursula’s backstory. Backstories always excited me when I was a kid.😇😍 So yeah that’s pretty much it. It’s not just on the adults but kids notice things too.😉

As an adult I have noticed how Ariel is a terrible role model for kids. She puts Flounder, Sébastien and Eric in a lot of dangerous situations. She only focuses on getting what she wants instead of being concerned about their safety especially her own. I included Eric because of her reckless driving which scared him half to death even though she saved him from drowning. Her behavior patterns seems very selfish just like a villain. So the moral of the story is... making bad decisions will get you to live happily ever.🤔 Another thing that concerns me is that Eric eats crabs and fish which Ariel is okay with. She doesn't seem concerned when Sébastien almost got cooked by the chef even when she saved him. If I was Sébastien watching her eat a crab with Eric, I would have call it quits.

What about Ariel not having a character arc (aka not growing or learning anything in the end)? John Musker admitted that Ariel has no character arc while Sabastian and Triton do. I know there's alternative ending where Ariel has a clear appolgy hugging her father after Ursula's death. But, to admit that you're protagonist has no arc (the main reason why people hate Ariel and the original film as a whole), am I missing something? Are we missing something to this?
@vetarlittorf1807

A protagonist with no arc is actually more common than people think, it's not even a flaw. Indiana Jones and Marty McFly are examples of characters with no arc.
@beethovensfidelio
@beethovensfidelio Год назад
Maybe Ariel will get an arc in the remake. I know Ariel got one in the Broadway show where she defeats Ursula and then apologizes to her father by saying “I’ve caused you so much trouble. Can you ever forgive me?”. Triton forgives her and tells her that she’s all grown up, thus he supports her choice to marry Eric.
@vetarlittorf1807
@vetarlittorf1807 Год назад
@@beethovensfidelio Ariel doesn't really need an arc. The point of the character is to follow her heart and take a chance. Triton is the one who has to realize how abusive he's been and he's the one who owes Ariel an apology. In fact, there are hardly any Disney princesses that go through an arc except Mulan, Anna and Moana. The reason is because most Disney princesses are designed to be likable and passionate, not complex.
