Answers or possible answers #10: 1st off, part of the reason why they didn't do much was the risk of letting Lucifer out, which prior to going into the cage Sam made Dean promise not to look for a way to get him out of the cage and for several months, Dean didn't do anything about it. 2nd: To say Sam & Dean were friends with Crowley is not the case until at least the 9th season. He was one of the main villains during the 6th season, only worked with Sam & Dean against a common threat for the 7th, was the main villain for the 8th. Also Crowley has said during the 6th season when the main cast were trying to get Sam's soul from the cage that Crowley can't do it and again out right says during the 11th season that even thou he's the King of Hell, he can't do anything about the cage. Also Dean during the 6th season asks Death to free both Sam's soul and Adam, which he refuses saying he'll only do one of those things not both, which forced Dean to choose. So Not much they could do & very big risk if they tried.

I think the finale should be that after sam and dean get rid of both chuck and amara, death presents them with one last option. Them sacrificing their lives in order to restore the balance between the normal world and the monsters' world; getting rid of all monsters and demons that roam the earth. Dean looks at sam smilingly and says: "We've always said we'd go out swinging, how about one last swing?" As sam tears up, smiles, and replies "The people we care about can't get hurt anymore." They both look at billie in agreement and billie slowly reaps the Winchesters.. The last scene is a hunters' funeral, attended by all the hunters around the world. They are gathered around two body bags on a bunch of wood. Bobby and Jodi"s eyes tear up as they send their friends to the other side. The final shot is the camera following up the smoke to reveal a beautiful day and a clear sky. A representation of a new dawn that began, and a celebration for the life and death of Sam and Dean Winchester..
