You are literally changing my life. I am a nutrition coach who is just. Is breast cancer free but still ate a lot of crap and changing many things. I just found you and your app. THANK YOU!!!!
Let me expand on my original sentence lol. I would like him to go to Whole Foods and make a complete list of healthy items under 75 dollars or under 100 dollars that should be able to last a week
He's even done Dollar Tree! You have to look under his videos and read each title to figure out which one he does at Dollar Tree, Walmart or Aldi. Sadly there are TONS of crappy products out there in those stores but there are a few hidden gems.
I feel like I’m in the best nutrition class ever listening to Bobby talk about food. Thank you for the thorough and insightful explanation on good foods and ingredients. Hope you and your fam have a great week!
I’m questioning the pasture raised eggs in US grocery stores now. The eggs are starting to look too uniform to me and the yolks seem a lot brighter, not as deep yellow/orange as they used to be.
I e been wondering the same thing- I used to buy one brand that was really great initially and now the eggs are smaller and the yolks are lighter yellow rather than orange. So disappointing and makes me suspicious of quality.
Yea. I thought I was losing my mind after spending a lot of time in Germany and other European countries where their yolks are bright orange I started buying pasture raised here, and in the beginning the yolks are always orange now I am noticing that they’re bright yellow and I don’t understand that AnyWho I thought I’d put my two cents in as well.
It hasn’t been my experience that Whole Foods prices have come down significantly. I shop at Whole Foods every week. In early 2020, my weekly grocery bill ran from $85-100. During the covid pandemic, my bill for the same groceries ranged from $100-130. It’s still up there. I’m considering moving most of my shopping to Aldi’s and only buying a few specific items at Whole Foods.
I wouldn’t mind it being explained to me why exactly these products are typically 1.5-3x the price of the heavily processed stuff if they are so simply made. Shouldn’t the lack of processing reduce the cost to produce?
Not sure what you mean by simple ingredients. Generally speaking, big companies use the lowest quality ingredients as long as they can maintain taste. Avocado/coconut over canola oil is more expensive. Same with cassava/almond over bleached white flower. The demand for healthy products, while growing is still nowhere near the demand for the typical garbage so new brands have a hard time with costs.
Because organically grown foods are more expensive to grow - less yield, more insect damage, necessary crop rotation, etc. Grass fed, pasture raised animals are more expensive to raise - they require more land, don’t grow at faster/larger rates than their bodies were intended by nature, etc. High quality oils like olive, avocado and coconut are more expensive to produce than refined seed oils. Lower glycemic natural sweeteners like maple sugar are more expensive/labor intensive to produce than cane sugar or chemical sweeteners.
Organic Foods must routinely be 3rd party Labor tested for a wide variety of contaminants, along with the soil and water used against Heavy Metals Pesticides, Mycotoxins. They are not government subsidized like corn of which high fructose corn syrup is their main product that is found in so many processed foods.
I wish Vital Farms didn't supplement their pasteurized raised hens by feeding them corn and soy meal. They also don't mention on their website if the corn is non-gmo or not.
Gasp…Oh no…You might…..Nothing will happen, this guy doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about and it won’t matter in the end. Many studies show not much difference in any eggs tested for nutrients.
If we support the local farmers' markets, the better foods and the prices will become cheaper because we will be supporting a better lifestyle... Hang in there, it's about supply and demand.
I greatly appreciate your videos and have purchased numerous items you suggested. But please slow down the camera over the food ingredients, especially the carbs, for us diabetics. And if you could mention the carbs on the items.
I pay 150 a week for one person. It use to be 80 dollars. And in my opinion shopping there for over 20 years their prices are totally outrageous. But I only eat organic… I love the place but the prices are nuts.
You've talked a lot about how most avocado oils and olive oils are fake and/or low quality. How can you tell if the "good" oils in an ingredients list are really the good ones?
Bravo to a man educating the public. Bobby reminds me of Sandy Gooch of Mrs. Gooch's (pre Whole Foods.) Both are serious teachers of nutrition. Pay more for healthful groceries as prevention of conditions and disease. Compare that to the cost of doctor visits and medication. Which makes more sense? Learn to cook simply and save a lot of money on processed food and restaurants.
Hi Bobby…. Thank you for these extremely informative videos. Viewing and educating myself has really made difference on my waistline. THANK YOU!! When will you be creating a video for Sprouts? I noticed it’s not available on the app anymore plus it’s been a long time since there has not been a video for shopping advice.
Everything is just so expensive now. It’s becoming nearly impossible to afford eating healthy if you work a basic job like myself. 5-10 years ago I could cover my bills and buy whatever I wanted at the store without even needing to check the price but now I get 5 things and that’s already almost $50. Last month I spent $500 on food and I don’t even eat very much.
We don’t have a Whole Foods. I found organic pasture raised eggs at Meijer for $4.99. We have chickens but in the winter they stop laying. The only eggs I can find that have the deep orange yokes and taste like ours is pasture raised. Our hens get organic feed but are outside all day in the warmer months. In WI winters are brutal. I love good culture cottage cheese but can’t find organic anywhere so regular it is. It’s so good with mini peppers and everything bagel seasoning!
Once I started eating Vital Farms nothing else comes close. Publix had Nellie’s on sale but one get one free so I gave it a try. Nope! Can’t wait until I’m out of these eggs so I can go back to Viral Farms.
I would personally avoid all foods and supplements that contain erythritol. A 2023 study linked the sweetener to an increased risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack, stroke, thrombosis, etc. Our bodies naturally produce it, but the manmade version isn't healthy for extended human consumption. Dr. Eric Berg here on RU-vid disputes the study. Since not much is known about organic or artificial erythritol, it's probably best to avoid the sweetener.
Bobby, corn isn’t a nutrient dense food? No need to remind you that Mesoamerica thrived on corn, and yes, US corn is GMO, but Mexican corn isn’t (it was a full battle against Monsanto) being my point, not all corn is bad 🤷🏻♀️
Finally some new suggestions - as a long time sub it seems like these videos were always just rehashes - thanks! oh and free bobby from TraderJoesGate!
Bobby would it be possible to do a review of Lush ? Or any deep dive into face care, I do like Lush but I’m just not sure what I’m reading when it comes to them.
A note about the bread. I purchase Dave's Killer Bread all the time. In this video you showed one of the varieties they offer saying it had 5 grams of sugar and said you'd opt for the bread with 2 grams. I have a loaf of the Dave's Good Seed, Thin Slice Organic bread that only has 2 grams of sugar per slice as well. And it is definitely NOT $10 a loaf!! More like $4.00! I suggest you look a bit closer at some of the breads before quickly seemingly discounting certain brands and pushing others.
Here is the problem with the Good Cultures cottage cheese, the high sodium level. 340 mg sodium is very high. Many folks over 60 are on low sodium diets but need the protein. High sodium is as bad as high sugar.
I wanna see him put all these suggestions in a cart, pay for them, lay them out on a table and remind himself of the few probably 10 things he bought for like $100.
Could you do something on nightshade family plants and substitute products? Also talking about lectin heavy plants with correlating substitute options?
I love you, and the Steely Dan background music ❤ too. I've been eating a clean anti-inflammatory diet for 5 months now and I feel great! My stomach issues and arthritis pain have gone!!!
I think Thrive is less expensive on many things, but remember, it’s a subscription based service, so it would make sense. As far as Whole Foods, if you’re a Prime Member, Subscription based as well, you can save on many items there too. 😎👍
Thank you Bobby the eggs is a very hot price .but nothing too expensive for your body .I just think to myself .medicationiis way more expensive healthy food an exercise an sleep in the best way to go
hi bobby! thanks for this video. i started watching your bread video and hope you make a video about the fresh bread section of Whole Foods - which is bad or good. because ive watched your videos, i just realized today the Seed Bread I have been buying is not clean ingredients :( i has canola oil and bioengineered ingredients! thanks for your awareness! i hope you make a video about the fresh bread section! they look healthy when you walk pass it in WF but after reading ingredients, it is bad :(
You have really got to try a “Natural Grocers” store. I don’t think there are any in Florida yet but they are all over the south. They have the same things that Whole Foods has but much better prices. I get vital farms pasture raised organic eggs for only $6 a dozen.
What do you mean better than? Reduced fat milk just has reduced fat which brings up the overall sugar content in the milk, it all depends on your macros and goals.
If I ate only the things you recommend, my grocery budget would at least equal my mortgage. I understand that you are trying to help people eat better, but not everyone (actually, hardly anyone I know) has a very large budget for food. Yeah, I took a look at Thrive Market. They are definitely not less expensive than the supermarket where I work. Exact comparison on just a couple of items was around 25% higher than my store prices.
Everyone talks about how expensive it is to eat healthy but how many times a week do people go out to eat and how much do you spend? I'm sure for that same money & probably less you can eat healthy for the week.
@@DavidGonzalez-lw1pl I cook everything I eat. The rare occasion I eat something I haven't cooked is when it's someone else's treat, or when traveling. I was raised to be careful with what I put in my body. To know it. To know what is in my food. I was raised by someone who was extremely food insecure in their past. While I'm not truly frugal, I don't waste money. I have never, and will never, pay $40 for a burger, or $100 for a steak. I do know how to eat healthy, but it does not have to cost that much.
