Another hidden gem is Winspit Quarry near worth matravers. Awesome explorable caves if you dare. It's more popular now though as disney have used it to film the obi wan series and John carter film there.

Very interesting! I had heard of the quarry and we were actually planning to check it out as it was quite close to some of the other spots we explored in this video. Hoping to head back to Dorset very soon and we'll certainly add Winspit Quarry to our list!

@@AlexTravels1 Be aware the caves at Winspit are marked unsafe to enter, as the ceilings aren't stable. Still a great place to see anyhow though. Was the location for the filming of the 1979 Dr Who story 'Destiny of the Daleks' where it was Skaro the Daleks homeworld. It's not changed a bit since then.

Speaking as a lifelong Dorset resident, my favourite place is Chapman's Pool. Which is on the coastal path. South of the village of Kingston. Which is south of Corfe Castle. You can get down to it by climbing down a clay path. Which can get a bit malleable. Or there is a slightly longer way down there just to the east. It's a cove. Which is lovely. But walk along the rocks to the west and it goes on quite a way. I spend a lot of my time doing this because it's very quiet the further on you get. There is a rocky outcropping about half an hour to the west which you can get round when the tide is out. And there's a waterfall where a stream comes down from the cliffs above. Have to be careful with the tide there because you can only get round when it's going out. But the bulk of the rest of this part is far enough away from the cliffs to be safe to sit down. You won't get cut off by the tide either. Even if it did come right in, it wouldn't be deep enough to be a problem. Also awesome is Kimmeridge Bay. Fifteen mins walk to the south of Kimmeridge village. Clavell Tower, on the clifftops there, has an open day once a year and can be rented as holiday accommodation. Arne nature reserve, as seen on springwatch this year, is also worth it. I told a few colleagues recently about the Agglestone and none of them had heard of it. Maybe I get out more than they do. Rempstone Heath, which is south of the harbour and north of Ballard Down and Corfe castle is fantastic. Wide open roads lined with trees. I like it in the winter, when it's not busy. I once spent a day there and saw more deer than people. Although from October to feb shooting takes place so you must stick to the way marked paths. Part of this heath is Ower quay, pretty much the only bit of land on the south side of the harbour that is public access. It's tiny, but has a great view of green island. MInd you, I have walked the Priests way many times, and yet I've never got round to doing the dinosaur tracks. It's on the list now.

Lyme Regis (the town), Golden cap coastline walk, the undercliffe, Lewiston Hill and Pilsdon Pen. You totally ignored West Dorset! Much prettier than the east of the county. Nice vid and well done.

Thanks for this tips, I'm visiting next weekend and can you tell me the best place to park to view the Durdle Door. Postcode is probably ideal, and Happy to pay parking fee.
@AlexTravels1
@AlexTravels1 Год назад
We parked at 'Durdle Door Car Park', as it's listed on Google maps (BH20 5PU). It was a paid car park but cheaper than we expected it to be. Only a 5 minute walk from durdle door as well. Hope that helps!

Gorgeous! That trail along the very narrow rocks looked very scary... do people actually walk there? 😊

It was very narrow indeed! We were too scared to walk there because that path itself looked like it was about to fall over the cliff... but if there's a will there's a way I guess!😂
