I'd agree, I went into the show completely blind and really enjoyed it. I had no idea what the show was about, I never knew that it was based on a series of books, and I didn't even know that it was sci-fi. When I first started hearing it being mentioned, I thought that it was going to be a horror series or movie based on th title alone. and didn't have any interest in watching it at first. It wasn't until I learned that it was sci-fi and dealing with an alien invasion did I decide that I'd give it a go.

3 Body Problem is arguably the most imaginative sci Fi from China. I love sci Fi genre. This book still stunned me multiple times by its wild but plausible plots. The Netflix version makes some changes of the characters for DEI. But it seems working fine. It is well adaptation of the original story. 3 and 1/2 Stars out of 4 ❤

While I do plan on watching this, I've already watched the Chinese version (available on Amazon Prime). It has 30 episodes running about 40-45 min. each. It was very true to the source material. I doubt that the Netflix version will compare favorably, but I think it needs to be viewed as 'loosely based on' rather than faithful reproduction.

Yes. All 30 episodes are available. These cover the first book. As I understand it, they are gearing up to do the second season/book now.

@@abarclay15 I've watched some videos that's a resume from these books, mainly on the "Quinn's Ideas" RU-vid channel. It seems interesting. How many books is it? And it's getting absurdly vast, taking hundreds of years, even millennia. I'm curious about how it will be adapted into a series.

Read the book, and then before watching the Netflix series, forget you read the book because you’ll go mental trying to reconcile the two. Like most adaptations.

Watched both the Netflix and the Chinese series, and loved how they manage to express that slowburn misterious details and feel the weight of what we are discovering thru out the show and also how they were constantly building the set to those important moments. Of course they had 30 episodes so the pace and the depth with the caracters is more than what you can get here in the Netflix serie for sure. I´ll reccommend to watch the Tencent (chinese version) if you want that eerie kind of atmosphere and also a little more depth to the story. Then watch the Netflix one, has some cool visuals and a little more to the story at the end.

I confess to being very worried. We know they had to make a lot of chances to adapt it to TV. Like splitting one character into several, to avoid the internal monologs. If the character with the sword in the end is Sophon, which was suspected before, her being into the virtual reality is completely off. Then again, although I find it nearly impossible to have a good Three Body Problem TV show adaptation, it is very possible that we might have a _new_ Three Body Problem, made for Netflix, that is good by itself, even if it is a big distortion of the book. That, I confess, might be an even better outcome, because have 2 different stories is better than only having 1. We will see

Curious, did you read all 3 books? Because the entire trilogy is being adapted. Wang Miao is not splitted into 5 characters, it's Auggie Salazar who is the stand in for Wang Miao. The other characters are from book 2 and 3 because again, all 3 books start in time period in early 2000s so Netflix made an easy decision to depict events chronologically. As a matter of fact, they didn't split any character, they actually combined several into 1 character. I find comments like yours is an instant indicator that you only read book 1 and have yet to comprehend the full scope of the story.

I believe if you watch the Chinese version of the Three-body Problem TV show, which is taken by Tecent, you can get a better understanding of the three-body problem. As a person who has read the original version of the Three-body Problem book several times, I can never agree that Netflix takes the Three-body Problem well.

I saw one trailer for this show and immediately read the series. The book series was actually life changing, it very quickly became one of my favorite book series of all time. So far from these trailers it really feels like the adaptation will not hold even a slight candle to the books. Only time will tell but so far I am not optimistic.

I thought they did a pretty good job. The books have a few problems such as very similar and shallow characters, it seems that everyone is a closet astrophysicist and much of the science is revealed in lengthy detailed monologs spewing out of otherwise idle conversation. The underlying story however is deeply captivating so it's worth both a read and a watch.

read the first book, watched the first series, seems like the first series coverage is beyond the first book. will say that the story is generally the same but the way the drama reveal things and how the book did it is a bit different, i think the drama is more direct, but at the same time, some details i considered important are not shown clearly or shown at all.

I really didn’t like the first episode but it just gets better and better, huge fan of the books so took a while to adjust to the changes but they do allow for richer human stories later on.

the one good thing about the Netflix series is that you dont really need to know anything prior to watching it. just jump in and enjoy. If you did enjoy it, then start looking for more background info to broaden your horizen ( yeah I DID mean BROADENING your FKING HORIZEN) .

They were doing fine as long as they had a source to reference. Since JRR Martin was getting lazy and not staying ahead of the story, those two had to start improvising story to keep the series in production. So they just tied up loose ends and ended it.

I personally loved it❤. I have watched both the Netflix and the Tencent adaptation and neither is perfect but they are both respectful of the source material which is the delectable part for me, as a book reader.. What I liked about the Netflix one is that despite the creative changes that they made they definitely kept the all the main plot points in the story and I got the same feelings and reactions watching certain scenes that when I first read them in the books. This is for me a proof that they didn't miss the mark in capturing the essence of the story. One issue I had is that the tone of the show was almost too humorous compared to the book which is quite dark in tone. But I get why they did it, it can't be too depressing if we want to get a second and third season greenlit 😅. All in all, I was agreably surprised and I hope we get the Dark Forest season 2.

Absolutely brilliant review!! Thanks 🙏 I’m gonna carry on watching but as a reader myself I’m gonna get my hands on those books. There’s more truth in this science “fiction” than most realise!! After all the biontec 💉 was actually Bio N Tech and millions are now walking with biological nano technology inside their body, and are completely unaware of the effect it could potentially have on them!! Found it really peculiar that the government pronounced it Bion tech effectively hiding the fact that it was in fact Bio N Tech or Nano technology, also interesting how people involved with it can see their biological clock ticking. It’s frightening how much we think is fiction and what we believe to be true……… terrifying actually!! However I’m definitely gonna get those books! Something to read when the internet goes down.

Most of the Netflix series looks to be over my head, I don’t want to think and watch. Just give me a simple story and throw in a few new ides if any. Looks good, but I’m tire of having to research. If it is really good, I might watch it when the Hype goes down. Godzilla Minus One was the one movie I watch that pulled off a film without any star power or established creators, and it was in sub titles that I had to read to get what’s going on, but probably would have figured it out. Again they did a good job for what they had and it wasn’t Hollywood up as this adaptation. Maybe I should watch the original movie or anime. I remembered feeling this way when I watch Train to Busan, then I heard Hollywood is making their version. I hope they don’t over do it just to be a bit smart. Keep it simple and focus on the storytelling and characters.

There is a Chinese adaptation called "Three-body" that is much better than Netflix's version. It's free on RU-vid. Netflix's version is only superior visually.

Netflix offers us a superb adaptation of a sweeping contemporary masterpiece of Chinese SciFi. Superb. Also, incomprehensibly, your poorly researched video refers to the alien invasion as “imminent.” In fact, the San-Ti (Trisolarans) aren’t due for (about) 421 years.

They said the aliens were traveling at 0.1 light-speed, then this "thing" , that would intercept the aliens, would travel at 0.01 light -spreed. That's 10 times slower. !!

I want a 2nd season and more. I hate when they don't wrap things up. My only real question is why fairy tales and why didn't he explain the point of a story or instead read fables. I didn't like that all because of one guy and one communication we are all liars. Why not talk to the headset people? I am missing something.

To be fair the books weren't finished before the GOT adaptation finished so D&D just lack story telling capabilities. Maybe since they'll have a completed source material they can do a good adaptation. GOT did have some really strong seasons Adapted from the books; the last 2 seasons were their vision on how the series should end.
