In 1075 we bought a 25 Ft. used Itasca Class C. Years later went to a 33 ft. Class A. Then a 31 ft. Class C again. When my husband passed away suddenly, I sold the Class C. Missed having one so a few years later I bought another Class C. 25 ft.... Perfect for me, a 78 yr. old widow who agrees 100% with you about this size. I call it my "motel" on wheels. Traveling with my dog is just a great way to live my life today. Not full time, but can just pick up and go.
I had a Lance 825 truck camper and my wife and I and our dog did a 22,000 mile road trip and went all across America, Canada and Alaska I loved it because everywhere the truck could go my house could go. It was a fantastic trip. We did another road trip in a 35 foot travel trailer ( should have gone smaller) another 22000 miles but it wasn’t the same. The truck camper was the best! I want to do it again.
We have finally sold our house and we are hitting the road! The first thing out of hubbys mouth is that we should see John and Mercedes. lol Hopefully we will finally meet you soon
We started with a 29ft travel trailer, then upgraded to a 35ft 5th wheel when we full time RVed. After putting down roots again, we tried a camper van and that was way too small. We've been looking at Class C's under 25ft ft for many of the reasons you like yours. We will only part time RV, so I think a floor plan like yours will be good for us. :)
I have a 25 foot Four Winds Class C. It's a terrific little coach ! It's simple, like me, No Slides or Jacks to Break ! It's Paid for ! It's Large enough to be Comfortable, small enough to Moochdock ! Keep up Your Great Work, I've been following Your journey since You got started !
OH, WHERE DO I BEGIN?! We love our Lucy (2016, Winnebago Navion, Mercedes diesel) for MANY reasons. One, it is just the right size…I can drive it with ease and not panic; it almost PARKS itself!; with the diesel, we get between 13 and 16 mpg; MERCEDES! I also just LOVE that I don’t have to go outside to use the potty room. I love the fact we can get our daughter and her family inside in in-climate weather, to comfortably have dinner, as there is a TON of room with our full wall side out. Plus, we have a ton of inside storage, which is a necessity for me. We recently had more solar installed, so going off-grid for a while won’t be so worrisome. AND, FINALLY, OUR LUCY IS JUST A GORGEOUS CLASS C! John, Mercedes, I am so happy you did choose a class C, as I knew it would be the perfect fit for you…especially since you’ve “settled-down” and are not traveling full time! You’re able to practically pick-up-and-go with Class C rigs…again, so happy you made the right choice and that you are truly happy with your decision. Much ❤️Love, Virginia
We have a class C Winnebago 30ft!! We absolutely love it! The upper bunk is an entertainment center with surround sound! Our three boys absolutely love it!
Our Winnebago Micro Minnie is 21 ft 11 inches long. 7 feet wide . Its a trailer and our f350 tows it beautifully. I do love your Minnie Winnie. It took us 3 yrs of looking , touring RV dealers , surfing on the internet, to find what we wanted.
Great video, Mercedes and John! 7 years ago, we started out with a 5th wheel that, on paper seemed great. In actual use, not so much, plus, the build quality was awful. Within the first year we traded it for a 37' Class A diesel pusher (single rear axle). We owned that rig for a couple years before deciding the build quality wasn't good and driving on the interstate was a white-knuckle affair - cross winds and passing truck traffic made it a nightmare. 3rd and last, we traded the Class A on another Class A diesel pusher, a 4369 Newmar Dutch Star with a tag axle. This coach has been a game changer for us. Love having a bath and a half with plenty of storage room, weight carrying and towing capacity (we tow a Jeep Wrangler). The build quality is much better than previous RVs. Yes, it is large (43'9"), but with experience you can get used to handling it. Every type of RV has its pluses and minuses, you just need to figure out what works best for your family. Unfortunately, most times that takes some trial and error.
You two have seen my/our sweet spot! 1) We started in a 20 y/o 24’ Class C with 3 kids… it was tight. When #4 arrived there was no way to stay with that C, not to forget all the engine problems we had with it! (I sold it to a mechanic neighbor who came over and ASKED to buy it! And yes, I was right up front on the issues we had.) 2) So after much research we bought a V10 F350 12 passenger VAN and a 36’ TT. It had a 4 bed bunkroom, no slides but it was perfect in the lay out. We had great adventures with the kids in that TT. 3) But with kids growing up and out we downsized to a used 26’ TT., a Tracer. We got one weekend in it, loaned it for our daughter & s-I-love to stay in while looking to buy a house (going from active Army to reserves and moving back home to TN) Well a week before they moved into their new house… a HUGE TREE landed on the TT, …however it held up against the tree . Insurance still totaled it. 4) We went back to 3 Way Campers in GA, and bought another 26’ TRACER TT! It was a tough TT so we wanted the same brand! I’m a night owl, John isn’t… so our biggest sweet spot is the bedroom has a DOOR😂. He can sleep and I can watch movies etc without disturbing him. See you two soon! (((Hugs)))
We tow a 35' Brinkley Z3100 and love it. It's our second fifth wheel. What we like is being able to unhook and have the truck to see the sights. I've been towing trailers for many years and very comfortable with it. If I had a Class C we'd have to tow a car anyway. But I totally agree with your motivations and think when we get older, we may switch to a Class C.
We have a 20ft Grand Design Imagine AIM 16ml. It is perfect for us. It is just the 2 of us when we camp. We have 2 grown kids, but they don't like camping. We like small campers because they are easy to get around in. If we had a big camper, we would not go camping as much. We are like John, we love to have it always packed so we can just head out last minute. I have it set up for boon docking. We can go 6 days off grid without running out of power or using a generator. It is our favorite way of camping because you miss all the people. Most people want hookups. We love the beautiful secluded places.
We've gone from tent to highwall popup to our 22-foot Gran Design Imagine couples trailer. The full total length is 45. The RV is the perfect setup for us,we absolutely love it. We are now at a seasonal site until mid-October. I'll probably cry when we have to leave this place until next year. 😢😢😢
Affordability! Our truck camper is great for the nimbleness. Storage in the rear seat is the life saver. Our 27 foot 5th wheel is great for longer trips or longer stays, but not as nimble!
Glad that you guys love the Minnie! We are in the process of making a huge change right now. We got rid of the class A and are picking up our new Airstream tomorrow. We decided to go smaller and are actually looking forward to no slides and less storage. We will see how it works out for us 🙂. Jackie was never comfortable in the motorhome.
Hey guys 👋🙂, Are you guys from Massachusetts? I'm Massachusetts. I wasn't sure if that's what I heard. Anyway, I bet your daughter is much happier with the new arrangement as well. Thanks again 👋☺️
We have a 41’ Solitude 375RES. And you are right, third RV hits the sweet spot! We love the East West bed, we added a bidet, and the separate living room with basement storage checks all the boxes!
Small rigs are nice. I had a fifth wheel, 18 foot tow behind, and a MB Class C - but a truck camper is perfect for us. Four wheel drive, 700 mile range, solar power, and lots of ground clearance. (we go to lots of undeveloped locations) We are starting to part time in it. Who knows what the future holds!
Howdy howdy from Tucson We have a 28' Class C winnebago outlook and our Winnie is simply the best, built in above cab entertainment center for the kid while traveling and super short bathroom breaks no need to breach a door in a shady area.
spent 3 years looking for a "smaller" rv after our 40' winnebago pusher. finally realized that we wanted #1. 3 doors which meant a class C. #2. large water and waste tanks so we wouldn't have to fill and dump every day. #3, large storage bins. we tried to love smaller ones but finally chose a 39' Jayco Seneca Super C (light on the super) on the freightliner chassis. yes its big and we usually pull an 18' trailer with toys. But. other than the gravel truck ride, we love it. It's perfect for us at this time. We travel about 6 to 10 weeks a year, all over the country. smaller would be nice at times but this works for now. full residential fridge and 2 bathrooms (Which we didn't want but now we like). . about 10 mpg when not towing and 8.5 to 9.5 towing.
We finally got a class c, Winnebago Vita. Only 24.5. Cab over bunk, grandsons love it. Tons of huge windows including 2 in the back! Easy enough that now I can help drive with long trips! Lots of inside and outside as well, for the size. And avg 16-18 mpg! Diesel generator, solar, Mercedes chassis which is beautiful! We can noon dock for a few days at a time and that is another love! We can access everything but our bed but can fit comfortably in overhead (at 62 and 65 yo) or the dinette bed. Huge supersize too. Vehicle feels secure and we love that too.
John, Mercedes, I tow a 30 foot Lynx, what I like about it is that it has a separate bunk room, with 4 bunks and a privacy door, not a curtain. When people want their privacy, it's easy. Yes, it does have a slide that needs to move for bathroom access, but no major inconvenience to me or mine.
Watching your newest Class C video. We have a Fleetwood 29’ Class C no slide. We are coming to camp with you this weekend for a week for the first time. Hope you will be there. Have watched all your videos.
There’re lots of pluses about a Class C. And it looks like Sage has a great space too. One thing I wish was different about my rig is I don’t have travel access to kitchen or bathroom. But at this point, I can adjust to that. In my next rig…………. I love that you love your Minnie Winnie. And I love being here at Thunder Canyon with you and looking forward to fall here (and more!)
I love my 21 foot van for exactly all the same reasons you love your Class C. For one person, my van is perfect but for three people you made the right choice. A little more room is clearly better for you.
I have one similar to yours. Mine is a 25’ Class C. I would prefer the one that doesn’t have the slide out in the back. The one where the bed is already set up and there’s a ladder on the back to climb on the roof. In the future I’d like one that made more for off-road and overlanding. It hasn’t stopped me but I pay for it in repairs.
I liked Totoro (06 coachmen aurora) but have had some issues with “space” with Jayqube however, instead of buying an rv thats is built with everything , i have decided to pull out the queen bed and add 2 twins so he is in the room with me but not in my bed lol will be adding solar and a dishwasher and hopefully once its all renovated we wont have to change to a different rv of any kind!!! Putting less than 50,000 into it to make it work for us is WAY better than 500,000-700,000 buying a new one that is built with everything i and J would need … it’ll take a while but i think once i have everything renovated it should work without a hitch!
I think my Thor Majestic 23A is about the perfect size for me . Since my wife passed it's only me and a Chihuahua , so my Class C does not have or need slides . Have a dinette , a jump seat that will eventually become a small reloading center , kitchen with rangetop , fridge ,microwave that also bakes and air frys , bathroom and full size bed . The large overcab area is great for storage , tv mounted on an articulating arm , what more do you need? My only problem is the bed in the corner is a real pain to make up . Easy to drive , big cargo bay , my son helped me fabricate a powered lift for my motorcycle carrier for my little bike . Don't know what yours is like but I put big shocks with coilover springs and helper air bags on the rear which made a huge difference in ride for little money . Have original house battery and genny , also added 200 AH lithium with a 2000 watt inverter wired to an extra 30 amp receptacle in the electric bay to plug in to , a DC to DC charger and four 100 watt portable solar panels . Also the extend a stay propane valve and carry two 20 pound cylinders in the cargo bay . While not considering myself a "prepper" I am good off grid for a while other than water , and if the excrement encounters the cooling system I would have instant shelter off in the woods . Not ashamed to say that Jesus and Mary and St. Cristopher all have their places in here to watch after me .
We've had everything from a 10' pop up, to a 16' Boler, to a 40' fifth wheel to a number of class a diesel pushers! Since we are now living in a lake community, we are on the hunt for a trailer under 26' that will comfortably accommodate us and our 2, mid-sized dogs. I like the hybrid idea for the space (thinking dog kennel) and the tent-like feel. We are planning short trips to beach, state parks, family visits. Any opinions out there??
There's pros and cons with everything. Our last motorhome, 31 feet Class C, had no storage room. We went to Class A with 2 bathrooms and storage is not a problem, but of course, driving is tougher at 40 feet. When we are camping, all the room is great.
Hey, I’ve seen that ball of twine, Cawker City KS Hwy 24… I drove a farm delivery route through KS for three years. Looked it up 1.6 million feet of twine👍
Have a lance 1171 on f350 dually can go anywhere And separate to if needed no combination problems but i have to walk around safety issue just carry all the time lol
Just as you described we are a retired “weekend warrior” couple with 25 foot C Class. EBikes and rack stretch it out to 27. Never have we ever had trouble finding or fitting in any sized campsite space or driving on any road, even the narrow lanes that are under construction. Here’s another plus- we live in a heavily wooded forest town and have been evacuated or put on pre-evac notice due to fires. With our rig loaded at all times with some food, water, propane, fuel and some clothing we will be able to bug out in five minutes time.
The floor space in the Ford brand of class c rv's is very tight. There is no foot space on the passenger side and the drivers side will not slide back far enough for us. I guess we will stay with our TT. We were hoping we could find a drivable one.
I absolutely loved my 2014 Jayco Melbourne 29D that I bought used! It was almost perfect. Couldn’t afford the $350/mo storage pmt had to pay whether I used it or not. I would love to find a slightly shorter version for me & the pups. Like less than :5 ft. I wouldn’t need a toad then , .
My family camped in an old 26’ airstream growing up which I loved. What would you recommend for a single retired lady who isn’t handy and can’t kneel on the ground?
Class c is perfect for retirees and family with 1 child. Our RV trailer is 31 feet but we won't be taking it far and it's for the extended family to visit us at the lake....not pull across the country.
Looks like a perfect rig..... Except what do you drive after you're set up at a campground? Other than that I love it. But I assume you need a tow vehicle if you're going to stay at a campground for a week or two. Other than that it seems pretty nice.
thanks looking forward to seeing that video! J&M six more months and I’ll be full-time RVing once I get my system is up and running because we have to sell the house because of the reverse mortgage and pay off the reverse mortgage because Mom passed away in January. I’ll be moving to my brothers down the street temporary until I get my tow vehicle and RV up and running. It’s going to be a different way of living but I don’t see any alternatives that gets me out of the stick and bricks Jail.
I’ve called you guys twice for a reservations and left message and never got a called back and nobody answered the phone! Heading to fort Payne state park.
i don't r.v., but if i did. i would prefer a small rv. an rv van would be great (size wise), but i would find that to small. the smaller size rv would be a whole lot easier to drive and manuever around, especially in the city. my depth perception isn't the greatest, so i would be way to stressed out with a bigger rv.
Just curious. Why am I NOT getting notifications of your GREAT channel when you post new videos? I am subscribed. I am only subscribed to a few channels and get notifications from those. Am I doing something wrong? Is it my settings? Love your channel and what you stand for. From a confused former Marine.....not that there is such a thing. Once a Marine, Always a Marine
As a 30 year commercial driver, and now retired, you do not need to explain the pros and cons. We are the same age. You can read and watch the same old crap about the subject all day long too.
