Rest in Piece, Chris Penn. He was great in this movie, and sadly left us all too soon in 2006, at age 40. It's interesting that the dance training montage was written in because Penn genuinely didn't know how to dance. 💃

I love that John Lithgow hilariously parodied his famous anti dancing speech in an episode of "Third Rock from the Sun", when Tommy starts a rock band. The studio audience even gave him a standing ovation at the end. 👏🏾

Happy 40th Anniversary, Footloose! It may be cheesy, but it's still charming and enjoyable. It's crazy to see Sarah Jessica Parker so young, she and Chris Penn were the only actual teenage actors. She was also in another 80's dance flick, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."

According to a local who played an extra, the director didn't hire professional dancers bc he wanted a "pure" dance scene from innocent, newly dancing teens. Brian wimmer.

This was my Mom's favorite movie. She's no longer with us(and has been deceased for a while) but I didn't think I'd feel so nostalgic and more than a little sad😢. However this was a great video. Keep going

My favorite thing about Footloose is the music!! It pulls me in and makes me feel like I'm in the movie! I love dancing!!!

Footloose is memorable in so many ways. Saw it in the theater in 1984 when it came out. I like movies where you can look back and see signs of the times. The clothing, hair styles, cars we drove, daily activities kids did and just having fun. It shows as well that teenagers can make a difference with change. I always thought the turning point in this movie was Kevin Bacon's speech at the town council meeting when he brought up the Bible and the part about saying there is a time to dance. Happy 40-year anniversary Footloose.

It opened my senior year of Highschool. I remember dancing to it. 2018 I was in a production of Footloose. The first day of rehearsal I said, what year does it take place. They said 1984. I said I was a senior that year. Several of the adults also graduated in 84.

Payson High School is where they filmed the school scenes. The students there have been lobbying since last year to get Kevin Bacon to come back for their senior prom in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary. Just this past week Bacon agreed to come. Should be noted this is the last hurrah for the high school building as it’s set to be demolished after the school year.

I feel that Ariel Moore, Ren McCormack's romantic interest/significant other had VERY little character development in both the original film and 2011 remake. She should've been given a small backstory of where she babysat Ren's cousins, Sarah and Amy Warnicker before the beginning of the story, such as during the summers and while in school on occasion before Ren moved to Bomont from Chicago (Boston in the remake) all the while was paid for her services and had secretly taught Ren's cousins how to dance during her babysitting gigs. She also could have been a cheerleader, too.

As a Utahn it's so fun to see places that no longer exist in this film or that have been built around. The restaurant Sarah Jessica Parker meets Ariel at was one of the best mom and pop burger/shake shops, and it's now gone and now a Starbucks. This was a fun list!

It’s my favorite movie just cause footloose is my favorite song. Kenny Loggins! Honestly, I find this song to be very underplayed. The radio never plays it.

Kevin bacon was nervous about the speech scene?! do you know it makes you feel a little bit better because I don’t like public speaking either but if a famous actor can get nervous, it’s OK!

If I’m not mistaken, one of the actors deaths was because of this movie. I don’t remember which one but the actor had hurt their back in a scene and was on painkillers that lead to an addiction then to death

The last thing about Kevin not knowing it was a dance movie is slightly inaccurate the movies wasn't originally called footloose the name got changed to that when Kevin made a comment about how he wanted to cut loose and footloose also they arnt dancing to footloose in the dance scene they are dancing to jonny be good and as for him not wanting so many stunt doubles the real story is the movie producer's wanted kevin to lie and say hed done all the dancing and stunts and he refused to lie after what happened to Jennifer beals in flash dance he did say he wished he had been able to do more and felt like he wasn't doing enough when the doubles took over but as always words get twisted in interviews

Hard to imagine the dance party ending wasn't intended. It's one of the most iconic endings of the 80s and the movie would feel kinda unsatisfying without it.

Loved this movie and still do. I saw excerpts of the remake and wondered why they felt that it was needed when the remake seriously SUCKED! You could tell most of the dancers were actual dancers, and most kids wouldn't be able to do the same moves, unlike in the original.

So if a small town doesn't totally embrace and swoon over the actors there is something wrong with the town? That seems to be the premise here. Sounds like the celebrities are the arrogant ones.

That Oklahoma city was not the only one to ban dancing. The podunk Arkansas high school I attended in the 70s was the same way. When we finally DID get permission for a school dance, it was under the eagle eye of school poobahs. They had to approve the band (a Christian setup who fumbled their way through a few popular tunes), chaperones lining the walls who quickly stepped in to prevent touching, and an admonishment of anyone making "shameful" moves. So, basically it ended up with everyone standing in one space, at least a foot apart, and awkwardly swaying with out-of-tune music. The next day, school leaders remarked on the "success" of the dance, stating that such an event could be held without "corrupting" students. We students spent the next week cawing and heckling the event. One teacher was met with a derisive chorus when he said "well, since you didn't enjoy the dance, it won't be done again!"
