@@Naposensei As you may already know WiFi is a wireless network connection. WiFi is used by most people to describe connecting to the internet. However, it's not an accurate term as a WiFi network doesn't always have an internet connection. Internet speeds in Australia aren't as bad as what some Aussies complain about. It's average on a world scale. No point comparing Australian internet speeds to those of Japan or South Korea where you have high population density in a small geographic area. Australia is the reverse and the telecommunication infrastructure costs are very expensive. My internet connection is perfect in Melbourne. I can upload a gigabyte in under 15min. Aussies just like to complain....

Yes on everything you said. Especially the pocket WIFI. When I was in Japan the pocket WIFI I rented was very inexpensive and I always had a full signal connection that had fast speeds.
I'm from NZ n I always thought being 'the land of the long white cloud' that NZ was kinda grey and then when I went to Japan, it was like everything was muted. I think a huge part of it is the lack of access to open spaces to view a skyline or horizon. The amount of buildings is bewildering.

Hannah I suggest you get a JLPT training and learn Japanese (officially) so you can get jobs which usually pay more when you have official certs. It also increases your social confidence going around in Japan.
Yeah I've thought about taking the test purely just to give me a goal to work towards, Japanese language skill wise but fortunately for me, I already have a job in Japan so my own Japanese study works just fine :D

One of the things everyone should know before moving to Japan that NO ONE knows about till after it's too late: When you move to Japan, everything is very, very expensive. Your apartment may not be furnished so you have to buy a futon or bed and table and kitchenware and it's expensive if you are just arriving. There's a wonderful Facebook group in Japan called "Tokyo Sayonara Sales the Original" (Or "Osaka Sayonara Sales") which if you join, you can buy things you need for extremely cheap from people leaving Japan! It's a fantastic way to save money since renting an apartment alone is a minimum of $2500 for a tiny place outside of Tokyo, and more if you live inside Tokyo! (Source: I've moved 4 times in Japan I know all the fees.)
I do not live in Japan, although I have visited once for 2 months, and I noticed that bathroom situations are very different between the countries. I am from the United States where we have very standard toilets whether it be at home, stores, restaurants, ect and usually the bathrooms are smelly and dirty, but in Japan I noticed that their toilets are much nicer, not only in the home but also around shopping centers and even at parks which was unbelievable to me and most often they were so clean. In addition, I definitely agree with a lot that you said, I found it very hard to connect to wifi, I came across feel trash cans on the street, and the cities were usually very clean.

u have missed the tokyo station underground .there are lot of shops and restaurants there.can have soo much fun .of cource there is nothing for fun on the ground level coz itz a business city.only office and hotels.but can do a lottttt in tokyo station

There are so many things at the Tokyo station. lol Maybe you don't know about it, coz. it's too big there. It depends what you want or look for. Also there is Tokyo station hotel which is gorgeous ,nostalgic, retro and beautiful hotel. You need to check them out. Enjoy!
I would say that it's so clean in Japan not in spite of, but because of no trash cans. The park near my house used to have a big trash can that was always full and overflowing and making it all dirty, but then they removed it and the litter problem got a lot better. It forces people to take responsibility for their own trash and take it with them. Good idea.

I got caught out believing there would be wi-fi. I ended up being a bit late as a result. Had no idea where I was or where I needed to go so needed internet for a map. Although this did end up with me exploring Osaka and having a great chat with the local Police.
Hahaha yeah me too! Osaka about 6 years ago was VERY hard to find free wifi! Even the Starbucks required a connection to verify your wifi account haha.

I noticed these exact things when I went to Tokyo for 2 weeks! In the UK, with the lack of bins, the country would be a giant landfill site! But I was amazed by how clean Japan was! Even the back streets! I don’t drink but I assumed the 140 yen can with lemons on the side was lemonade... I didn’t notice the 9% on the side! That was a shock!
We lived in Okinawa for almost 4 yrs. The funniest thing me to get use to when we went back to the states was opening doors at stores! Almost all stores in Okinawa automatcially open. When i got to the states I would walk up to a business an just stand there waiting for the door to open an realize that I wasnt in Okinawa anymore! I would laugh at myself a lot! One of the hardest things to get use to was the speed limit when we went back to the states we were so scared after driving in Okiniwa for 4 yrs going only 30 km we were terrified when we got back on U.S hwys going 55 miles per hour!
Osaka or Kyoto, probably my top choices for places to live, if not Okinawa. good choice! your vids are amazing, I love the way you travel, it reminds me of my scooter trips around Honshu, through the Nihon Alps and Kyoto to Ise, and back through Kanazawa and Matsumoto. I often think about going back to Japan as soon as possible.
@@CurrentlyHannah Would you recommend getting fiber in our apartment/house or getting one of those pocket wifi's? Trying to find out how much fiber costs in Osaka but not having much luck and if the fiber is unlimited. I live in Zimbabwe currently and we pay $225 per month for 15 Gigs.

Yeah, theres nothing at tokyo station except pokemon centre.. it's difficult to find rubbish bin there even their toilet..they love to line up for everything
What about the Cash (現金) culture? It's so ridiculous how in 2018, a surprising amount of restaurants and local shops only take cash. I go back to Japan once a year for family but I just can't understand why credit cards or mobile payments aren't accepted everywhere by now. In the US cards can be used 99.9% of the places, with mobile payments around 60%. In China, I hear WePay (WeChat Pay) is basically accepted everywhere for anything.
We don t need WiFi ,cuz everyone has sim card for internet... You can buy sim card anywhere in Japan. its cheap. and if you dont have enough money , Just go to Library , YOU can get free WiFi and super high speed....there are nice librery in each town.
Not a lot of ppl talk about what that thought was negative or bad about japan. Would love to see what you thought about it and why you decided to move. Maybe do a 5 good/5 bad things about japan or some thing like that.
I just came back from my Tokyo trip and I can agree to *most of what you mentioned such as the rubbish bins, Yamanote Line and I also like their trains as we can put our bags on top. I also like how they queue up it's very organize. 4:09 killed me mainly because I'm from Singapore!
We just got back from Japan (and having a massive withdrawals) and you are pretty much on point on pretty much everything! Those pocket WiFis are so shockingly fast! I'm from perth and our internet is crap! And I can't even with the convenient stores, family mart is our favorite and pretty much saved our butts during random middle of the night pekishness, we are literally planning our next holiday already after being in Japan for nearly 3 weeks and even considering on moving there for a year or 2, but not in tokyo or osaka though, my favorite was sapporo, tokyo and Osaka we're too crazy for me I think 😊
There's a massive RU-vid channel based in Japan that says there's no Wi-Fi anywhere in Japan, but I'm here now and it's everywhere and so easy to access 😁😁
You have literally made points about Japan that I always tell people back home. When I first came to Japan I was told "don't worry Japan will have wifi everywhere because of all the technology. Plus everybody there will speak english" - I was told this by people who have never been to Japan...now every time I go back to the UK, I have to tell people the opposite haha. Wifi is so difficult to find here, when I do find some that I can connect to, it is like a blessing.
Exactly haha! Not to mention Flip-up phones, the lack of central heating and Newspapers (I absolutely hate when it is brought to my neighbours apartment by motorbike at 3am in the morning D:< )
you can't find bins outside mostly because Japanese don't like to eat outside... if they want to eat they are going to konbini, they eat there (konbinis have a chair and a tables so u can sit there and eat) they eat a snack and then they are going to do their stuff
First off it seems that you’re still ill and have yet to recover, or it could be allergies you’re dealing with. This video is very beneficial had there been RU-vid and WiFi back during the time I was there. You do give simple useful information in your video. The fact that English is used a fraction more than when I was there is a relief to know. I was taking the last train at night from Yokosuka to Tokyo.i had hoped to get there on one train. But we arrived in Yokohama and everyone exited the train and got on another on. All the over the air announcements were in Japanese I didn’t know what to do. I hesitated and was stranded in Yokohama till the next train back which was at 5 or 6 in the am. None of the signage in the station were in any language to give me aid in my time of need. So I was left wondering the streets of Yokohama. Could go into clubs, because Japanese men only. Couldn’t go to the restroom didn’t know how to use their bowel movement apparatus which didn’t have any toilet paper anywhere! However I walked the ginza which was immaculately clean and safe. No need to feel like I’d be robbed like the time I visited NYC ages ago. So there was enough English speakers to inform me of my error and when I could return back to Yokosuka. I’m sure there more currently now than then. Whether you are aware of it or not you will be always treated better than any other foreigner because of your blond hair and blue eye. An ex was treated like a goddess there when she went to work there as an entertainer. Get well and feel better health wise. I enjoy these videos along with your pleasant sounding voice as you dispense with you valuable knowledge and information. Continued success.
Lol being a cheap tourist I used wifi in convince stores and hotels, thought it was pretty easy. Can’t remember if the logins were in English or Japanese.
- I quite like Tokyo Station to be honest. The station itself is interesting and it actually has some nice places around it. Nihonbashi or the Imperial Palace are pretty close for example :- I'm not 100% sure, but I think these rubbish bins outside of convenience stores are actually only for packaging and stuff you got at the store and not for stuff you got from somewhere else. - I really enjoy the precision, organization and so on at trains stations as a German. - To an European it feels more colorful in Japan. There are flowers almost all year round, but in Europe it's very often just cloudy and grey - especially in winter. - Sometimes I feel there's even too much English (and other languages) than Japanese. 98% of the people in Japan are Japanese, so I sometimes find it weird how much English or Engrish is pushed. - The prices on alcoholic drinks probably differ a lot depending on the country. In Germany, you for example get pretty decent beer or wine for a pretty nice price. - I also noticed more spots with WiFi in Japan recently, but I don't understand why it's thaaat necessary. I find it more convenient, to just get a pocket WiFi device than relying on some places here and there with free WiFi. - The internet speed in Australia seems super slow (and I thought Germany is slow), but I hope it's better now :)
When I visited Tokyo in 2014, we asked about the lack of "rubbish bins" outside. The tour guide said that happened back when the Sarin Gas attacks happened on the subway. The attackers put the chemical in trash bags, sealed them, then left them on the floor of the train by the door. When the train stopped, the attacker punctured the bag with an umbrella tip as they were leaving the train. Why the authorities banned trash cans instead of umbrellas with a pointy tip... I don't know.
There is Wi-Fi all over Osaka -- like you said, in convenience stores... but also train stations (JR, especially) and city-wide networks (like "Osaka Free Wi-Fi" that has over 5,000 network access points). And that's just the free Wi-Fi. Then there's the docomo etc Wi-Fi that you can pay for (or comes with your cell phone plan) which is very cheap. There is certainly a bigger blanket of free Wi-Fi throughout Osaka and Tokyo than I have experienced in any big America city. And with a Wi-Max device (also super cheap) you basically have Wi-Fi in your pocket everywhere except maybe on the underground parts of the metro.

Hello, Hannah. Glad you mentioned color. I always thought the colors used for things such as gift wrapping and clothing are normally more 'subdued' in Japan than other cultures. Ever notice how lightly colored are the birthday cakes (e.g. Baskin Robbins) sold in Japan, compared to the U.S., for example?
I agree with the lack of FREE WiFi. Very frustrating. Supposedly you can pay for it at a (big) JR station and then have access at any JR station for a period of time, but I have never tried that. I also agree with the lack of English but then that is what makes a trip there an experience. Every English speaking person should experience the near total lack of English for a time, very humbling. Otherwise travel to a foreign country is missing something if people cater to you. But... you are the visitor and you should learn the foreign language at least enough to say hello, excuse me, etc., never mind reading a menu.
I just went to Japan for 16 days and I gotta agree for all what you've said in the video! haha. Totally can relate. I really like ''gray'' Japan like you've said too. Missing Japan like crazy now. Definitely missing the convenience stores and vending machines too! haha.

Can you do a video on your job now? I find it fascinating that you are a performer! As a teacher who travels, I often forget that there are other job options out there.
Non-convenience of Japan. Lack of toilets and trash/recycle bins. Lack of buses/trains in countryside (Had missed last ones in Hokkaido and Kyoto...). Like the lights hanging.
