The best Astrophotography conference I have ever heard. A whole philosophy of life and a set of principles necessary for correct learning, healthy enjoyment in the hobby and a guide to learning. Thank you very much Dark

Thank you I appreciate it. I wasn’t sure how well it would be received because it’s not giving a specific tip or product review. I’m glad people liked it overall and not something I will do all the time but every once in a while I think it’s OK.

I am elderly, feeble and lazy. I use Sharp Cap and don't use any post data collection processing.

You should check out AstoPixel Processor. If you are lazy, that’s the stacking software to use. as they stack essentially they run subframe selector and at the end, they grade every image on an easy to follow graph and you can simply double click on the bed frames delete them and restock if you want it also stacks in a couple minutes versus WBPP, which takes much longer. I’m talking to them now about potentially working together because I love their stacking software for how easy and fast it is

Another great tutorial for not just AP but most any worthwhile endeavor. When I was just learning digital photography, a mentor once told me "avoid the religious wars". I didn't know what he meant and asked him to explain. He said "there are three religious wars in photography: the first is Canon versus Nikon. The second is Mac versus PC, and the third is jpeg versus raw... do what works best for YOU." Sage advice, and I'm sure there are similar spirited and passionate debates with AP, and avoiding those and seeking what works best for one's personal objectives will most likely be the most rewarding. Thank you Ryan.

Good lessons for sure! Many ways to get to a great result but all great images do share many things in common… find out what matters apply it when it does, and add your own take on it to get something fundamentally strong but unique 👌🏼

Some huge words of wisdom and insight here, Ryan…..and for those that have been at this hobby for a bit, we’ve definitely been confronted with all these! Great great stuff. I’ve been so humbled by so many in the Astro community over the years, who genuinely engage and want to help others on their journey ….and then try the best we can to pay it forward. Just as u are doing here with your channel. 🙏

Yeah, I think no matter where we are there’s always somebody that’s a step behind us that we can help and of course ask for help in return if we all do that we leave the hobby better than we found it.

Awesome video and meaningful thoughts/advice. The Astro community has always been super helpful to me, we’ve all experienced the same trials and tribulations at some point. I’ve been in this hobby 9 yrs now and it’s been a long struggle but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m always happy to pay it forward and give back any way I can. I’m thrilled with my progress and where I’m at in my skillset today, and I owe that to many great folks like yourself.

Thank you I actually had to follow my own advice because I didn’t know if people would actually like this type of video, as it doesn’t cover off on any specific skill. But anytime I can distill a years worth of information into 20 minutes I felt like it was worth a shot. If I can help speed up someone’s journey, so they realize what you are saying today versus six months from now like it probably took me to figure out then I always feel like it’s worth it!

Got my equipment minus dedicated Astro camera asi2600 mc pro duo. Still learning how to use a telescope…lol. Got books and software minus pix insight. But gun ho on learning… the curve is steep but that’s why we climb mountains…. The results and process… I worked graveyard so staying up late isn’t the problem but time is…. Still determined to master this hobby….🔭. My dad was a scientist and my friend is an astrophysicist so I do have a background… plus I’m a decent photographer and understand some of the concepts…so that should help…. Thanks for your advice and suggestions I will listen to them. Clear skies.

Good luck, it sounds like you have the right mindset. It’s a challenging and rewarding hobby. If you ever do need help, let me know. I’ve helped guys produce images in literally a week that some people commented took them years to produce so you can check out a 2 part series I did a while back where I help Dan from NYC a total beginner to the hobby and we walk him through his first 2 images. Both episodes don’t have a lot of views I think just over 1000 and I never understood why I didn’t have nearly the subscriber account then but if I was the beginner those would be perfect for me and that’s why I created them. So let me know what you think if you check those out!

I hope you’re referring to my astrophotography content, and not me being a lazy geek 😂jk jk The goal of this channel is to give back to the astrophotography community and help everybody get better. I do appreciate any support people send my way it’s not my goal to be a full-time RU-vidr. There are actually a lot of cost associated with doing the channel along with an immense amount of time that people probably don’t realize so I don’t blame folks for wanting to monetize something that is valuable, along with very time and labor intense. But I can promise you that the goal of this channel, and all of the support I get just goes back into making it better, and trying to give you guys the best content I can 💪🏼.

Great video! Encouraging and very-well articulated. It pretty much summarizes what I’ve learned the last couple of years doing this amazing hobby. It indeed takes patience and persistence to improve in this hobby. And as you said, everyone has a different way of doing things and you can’t always get consistent answers to process questions. As a tennis player and teacher for over 50 years I can relate to the issue of getting different answers on how to fix a players ground strokes or serves. I myself am still trying to create the perfect forehand. I just came across your videos recently and look forward to seeing more in the coming year. Thank You!

That’s awesome. I played tennis all through high school and into college. Some of my tips, as I mentioned, were directed at any hobby. As you know, if you’ve gotten good at things, there is a little bit of a pattern of success. It’s a back-and-forth of getting instruction and education, so you can go off and develop your own style and then return for more instruction and feedback. It’s a never ending cycle hopefully leading to being unconsciously competent where you’re able to just do your craft without even having to think about it.

Thanks as always for the insightful commentary, not just on processing but the philosophy of how to address the hobby. Not many people take such a wholistic and viewer focused approach! Patience is a hard one. I cannot resist shooting even on very bright moon-y nights (like today) and less than ideal conditions just to get data and be more selective in the kept frames. I think my New Year resolutions will be to practice more techniques in different ways to "master" the when/how/why to use them, not just following processing guides and then share more images outside my closed private FB. Also organizing my growing collection of "stuff" so I don't have to go hunting for that right size M6 screw or find where I put that mini dovetail for the AA+ when I need it!
@darkrangersinc
@darkrangersinc 7 месяцев назад
Thank you, and those are some great resolutions. The good news is, the longer you do the hobby, the easier some of the stuff becomes because once you have a certain number of images under your belt quality becomes more important than quantity. One thing, I forgot to mention during patience, and I try not to sound like an advertisement too much because it’s clearly not my motive, but a very real tactic I employ is using telescope live. If it’s a cloudy stretch, I’ll download some data and work on perfecting my skills with their data and it really does a great job holding me over. At first, I think I was like a lot of people where I didn’t think I would take pride in the image because it isn’t my data, but when I’m done putting all the effort in, I take nearly the same pride in one of their images as I do one of my own because I know I’m capable of producing data at that same quality so it’s just a matter of time before I could do the same thing. The only exception would be when I’m using the big planewave Lol I can’t create that. But their app set ups are 380mm and mine is 430 with a the reducer and they use the 600M QHY which is the same pixel as the 2600 just a FF sensor size.
