Very good and informative video. What you mentioned about the Waw rear wheel being mounted to a fork which means you can install any number of after market hub motors is a very important point for those who may have that in mind ☝️👍

Your list is very interesting. Well, it's your opinion. If I were to make such a list, it would be about how easy it is to get on or off a velomobile and how easy it is to maintain. I personally can't do much with maintenance holes. That's why I chose the WAW, which I haven't regretted yet. The WAW is not the most beautiful, but for daily use and long distances it is the most optimal VM for me. The most beautiful VM for my taste would be the Mulsanne, which unfortunately is only an experimental model. From the point of view of getting in, the Milan or Orca would be the best. Furthermore, velomobiles with a large turning circle are out of the question for me in daily use. Enclosed front wheels are certainly good for racing, but bad if you have a flat tire or otherwise need to the wheels. If you have to put a velomobile on its side just to pump up air, I don't find that fun.

Hello Saukki, great video as always. There is a new Version of the EVO coming next year that probably will beat the efficiency of the snoek due to even better aerodynamics. The new version is lighter AND stronger because its not hand-laminated Carbon but actually pressed and backed in an autoclave. Looks really promising and slick. Hopefully Axel Knaus, the new owner of the Evo design, will have the prototypes ready for testing in the next few months.

I bought an Alleweder 6 this year. I think even though it is slow, heavy and old compared to the other models, it is a very interesting pragmatic everyday velomobile for the city. You should get it with electric assist though. I like how its body is more open and a soft cover is attached with snap buttons for wintery and other bad weather conditions. The soft cover can be rolled to only take up little space. This allows for more air to get in in summer. Luggage space is also great and you can mount a trailer hitch. Mine has a Weber hitch so I can use a large cargo trailer.

@M1lansl not exactly sure but Wikipedia says 32kg. Mine has electric assist and a large battery so it is surely heavier.

Excellent list. Obvious of course. I agree. Very good montage of the film. Quit a challenge on such a subject. However, there are more velomobiles on the market that are less popular in Europe but outside of it. Also in production. Still, I don't think your comments about the Cab-bike are justified. Even negative. In many countries speed is much less important. Comfort and convenience. Go shopping or to the office in your normal clothes without arriving sweaty. Pedal assist makes the extra weight unimportant. The spacious entry and plenty of storage space is certainly a plus for the Cab-bike.
@holygrale8099
@holygrale8099 2 года назад
I absolutely agree about the CabBikeHawk! I opted for the cab bike last year, now riding it for 3000km without any problems on my daily commute. The bike has been throughout reliable so far, is comfortable enough even for an almost 2m tall guy + luggage space, and is unbelivably versatile being able to change from open cabriolet to almost completely enclosed 'submarine' style. It comes with complete lighting system, is easy to maintain and has a very narrow turning circle... what more could I ask for... well higher speed, less weight, more fancy carbonfiber... nothing of which would help me with a better commute. So absolutey worth a closer look... but hey, you took it on the list at least 😃👍

A larger version of the Snoek would probably lose most of its advantage over the other racing velomobiles. It would be just another one in the Milan/DF/Alpha7-and-other-Creations-by Daniel-class. And mostly motivate Daniel to make even faster velomobiles...

@20windfisch11
@20windfisch11 2 года назад
The Flevo Alleweder is not produced any more. German company Akkurad still produce the fibreglass version, Alleweder 6. I own one and it is easier to get into than, e.g., DF. However you still need to be somewhat flexible. If you can stand on one leg and can get the other one up to about a 90-degree angle, you can get into and out of the velomobile. Since it’s made out of fibreglass and the bottom is partly made of aluminium, you can grab nearly everywhere without the fear of breaking anything. I would say, from all velomobiles you can currently buy, the Alleweder 6 is the easiest to get in and out.

Also, my eyesight is not good enough for a fast bike. But hei! A really nice list of bikes and by gosh have they improved (a lot!). Thanks for the video. PS. Any velomobile shops in Rovaniemi that you know of (that is where I want to move (God permitting) .... P.S2. Which of these bikes are available with fast electric support? PS3 I wonder whether batteries in Finland in winter last short due to the extreme weather (-30C or lower)?

@lucifercommotion
@lucifercommotion 2 года назад
Disagree. There is a sufficient amount of velomobiles, notably fast ones, for the larger people, but a severe lack of vehicles for small persons, even me with my 172 cm. Those smaller people can more or less only use the Milan SL with special adaption or - if they happen to find one - old GoOne 3, Evolution and those of the Evo-Rs that are adaptable to driver size - and adpat them to their needs. Which means put a lot of effort into these old bikes. Actually the snoek has not been intended for the market but only for Eva and put in series production only of many requests.

And You seem to have overlooked that GoOne- Evo-R will be available in the beginning of next year again. Beautiful, lightweight, fast, expensive and btw Daniel Fenn's 1st creation. You might also have missed that the Alleweder 6 is still made, and like the Leiba these are machines for everyday commute with fair prices. Little bit desappointed. Which criterias, or which measurments have been used to sort those velomobiles? Which ones of the velomobiles have more ground clearance then the others? How is the ground clearance and luggage capacity of the Alpha 7 and the DF ? How are they when ridden in bad weather e.g. Rain? Are they rain tight, so no water going inside? Those are the two that interest me most. Thanks in advance for the info.
@TheVelomobileChannel
@TheVelomobileChannel 2 года назад
Hi! I'd say both A7 and DF has pretty similar ground clearance. The lowest part at the bottom are the foot humps, which might take contact to speed pumbs etc. Some people use some protective thing attached to the foot humps like strip of thin metal etc. I have Milan SL which has even smaller ground clearance but I can ride my normal routes without any problems. (There is one speed pumb where the foot humps touches the ground, but I just have to avoid that one.) Luggage capacity of A7 and DF is pretty decent, not great, but ok. I ride Quattrovelo, so in my opinion other velomobiles have tiny luggage spaces compared to Quattro 😄 Most velomobiles are pretty rain tight, including A7 and DF. Especially if you get the racing hood. Then you can close the visor and almost no rain water will get in. But the visibility might be very bad when it's raining, so you might want to open the visor little bit so that you can see where you are going. In that case there will be some rain water goming towards your face and upper body. Some kind of widshield wiper might solve that problem, but there are not many solutions available for that.

The ones with 2 wheels are called streamliners. Those are mainly used for speed record attempts. But I’ve seen someone using one as a daily driver. An "interesting velomobile" especially includes ones that bring new people to the velo world, which means cheap, easy to get in, and robust. So I would include the Trisled Rotovelo. Because poly is heavy, you can also get them in carbon fibre but that adds to the price tag. At a starting price of around AU$6500 they're more likely to attract people who aren't fanatics. To be honest, when I tell the average non cyclist I paid AU$5300 for my Greenspeed Magnum big wheel (accessorised), half look at me like I'm insane or something! There was a time 5 years ago I would have never considered paying over$1000 for a brand name mountain bike- that was top end to me. Maybe you could do a research based comparison on entry level affordable velomobiles, as your channel is research for many of us hopefuls who dont have one and can't afford 7k euro plus models.

What? Why would it be weird not to have suspension on the back of a WAW? I have many friends who drive daily with WAW without rear suspension. A close friend of mine has used his WAW without suspension during many long trips we have made together. The advantage without suspension is that the power goes straight into the wheel without losing power that is consumed when the rear wheel swings. You are welcome to test a WAW with no suspension and you'll get surprised. You should remedy this comment in your video 🙈 Edit: Not many fast road bikes have rear wheel suspension because they would be slower. And I guess that velomobiles without rear fork demand suspension or they would break.
