Just when I thought I’ve watched every 4Runner video available on RU-vid- you go and show me the pen holder and a way to turn off that distracting eco light! I’d sell my house before I’d ever sell my 4Runner. You can live in your 4Runner but you can’t 4Runner your house!
That "extra'" light between the map lights is known as an "ambient light". Helps light up the centre console so you can see your drinks, gear shifter, 4WD shifter, or anything else in storage. As its name suggest, it adds some nice "ambience" in the cabin at night.
Glad you made this video, I’ve had my 4Runner for 9 years so I knew about these features, but its great to see you making these videos to help the many who are new to the 4Runner’s. Toyota does a good job of implementing small but useful quirks!
I just bought a 2015 4Runner Trail Premium used with 200,000 miles on it, 1 owner from TX traded it in KA for a high end Lexus. It was garage kept and had all of the maintenance records. So far So good! *Knock on wood*. Engine is in great shape, Clean as a whistle, rides fantastic, and handles great. This video was extremely helpful. I also bought a center console safe and installed that with ease. There's still a ton of room in the console safe, they did a great job maximizing the usable space in there, and you can still use the lid storage.
That’s a great find indeed, you going to be amazed on how reliable they are. Speaking of which mine is turning 150k very soon so I’m working on a video you might not want to miss. Let’s just say I’m going to combine Ownership with the fact that I’ve been working on about 6 of them a week for the past 12 years to give you guys the ultimate “what will eventually go wrong “ / Common problems. It’s going to be a very short video , LMFAO
Got a 2021 4Runner and knew there were some things I didn’t know. The handle lock, windshield wiper deicer is new to me and will be VERY useful while I’m in Wisconsin, ambient light is new, and middle seat headrest is new 😂
All these cool Easter eggs AND some APC?? That’s the real bonus! Just found myself a 5th Gen and came across your channel, love the videos! I also have a 3rd Gen TL, jealous of your 6mt. Keep up the awesome work!
I used to have a 2010 sr5 traded in for 2016 pilot. I missed the 4R. The more I watch it the more I want 1. This X I will get a 2022 4R limited and will keep it for a long time xxxxx.
Lmfao, right on brother. 🤘🏻 Hang in there I’m sure you will get your own soon enough. Worth every penny. Thank you for watching and supporting this channel. Have a good day.
Hey, I really appreciate these "didn't know you had" videos. I'm expecting delivery of my 4R in 2 or 3 weeks. These videos are a great introduction to my new ride. Thanks! Oh, by the way, the removable rear-center seat headrest can be used to break out a window should you get into deep water with your vehicle and can't open the doors because of the water pressure on the outside of the door. That's an intentional safety feature provided by the manufacturer.
The back headrests release and fold down in Toyotas so the back seats can fold flat without hitting back of the driver or passenger seats. Same in the RAV4.
Another feature that I find handy in mine is that little storage slot just in front of the shifter (you have pennies in yours). For the dog owners, a roll of poop bags fits PERFECTLY in that slot. I have a roll stored there at all times in mine, haha.
On 4Runner's with the smart key fob you can program the truck to open all four doors when you go to open the truck with your hand - key fob in your pocket. All you do is hold the lock and unlock button on your remote until you hear 2 beeps from the car. This resets the configuration of the locking mechanism to unlock all doors when you grab the driver or passenger door handle without your key in hand.
@@VikingsGarage So glad to learn this. I have a new ORP and will make this change immediately. If I lived in a more crime ridden area, I would leave it set up so that only the driver door opens, but that is nowhere near as convenient as opening all four doors without getting the key out of your pocket. My old car, an Audi SQ5, functioned this way. My Honda accord cannot be made to open all doors at the same time with a pocketed key unless you start at the passenger door.
The tiny interior light is so cool. I'm glad to find out this is a feature because I always thought it was something wrong with it in my recently purchased 2011 4runner 😂😂😂. Thanks for the info.
Funny you mention that, it does not. which I think is a flaw considering the price they cost. If you don’t notice you left them on it will kill your battery without warning. 😉
For your next video, I have a suggestion I haven't seen yet on your previous helpful suggestions. A disappointment for me on my 2019 T4R is that the information center doesn't show the tire air pressure numbers up front for easy checking. It only pops up a warning icon when one or more tires has low air pressure, and then you have to check them all, INCLUDING the spare tire, which makes NO sense to me. So, when you have to check/fill the spare tire with air, it's a major inconvenience to have get out the hardware and drop the tire down just to check/fill the spare. My suggestion: for less than ten bucks, buy an 8.5 inch tire valve extension and put it on your spare. Sold everywhere, including Amazon. Then when you raise the tire back up into the well, position the tube so that it is easily accessible the next time you need to check the air pressure in your spare without all the trouble of getting out your jack hardware.
I find the eco light annoying, but not nearly as much as the scale that lights up directly under the MPH when you use the acceleration pedal!!! Wish I could turn that off and have only MPH display. Super distracting. Great video!
Thank you very much Sir, as far as the bar. Look into Carly it’s an App that allows you to customize quite a bit. That bar might just become a thing of the past.. 👍🏻
@@VikingsGarage indeed ! If you find anymore be sure to share with us. I only got my 4runner this past summer so I'm sure I'm missing out on lots of features.
I freek'n love the wipers defrost!!! Especially, -35/40 degree mornings before driving, at warm up 😎👍 Save some ice scraper time - extra time - extra cup of coffee 😀👌
hello. can i ask you one question?I sorry it's some another subject. I bought a used 2015 sr5 basic. I put gear on natural , L4 and then push the A trac button but there is no indicator light on the screen. is this normal or has some issue?
Hey Viking! Any idea why my alarm goes off after sitting for about 8 hours? Battery has been changed. Dealership have pulled it apart and haven't got a clue. It's a 2017 4-runner off road. thanks.
Obviously impossible to diagnose it this way but, check your hood latch (know for going bad, causing the system to think it’s open) also seen water getting behind the fuse box on the left lower corner(under the that side drivers dash) from a clogged sunroof drain cause some strange random issues. 🤷🏼♂️
It’s a great one, covered it on the last one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CyGmLseaedc.html This is one of 3 videos. Thank you for watching!
With your smart key the dealer can program it to open drivers door first click then all others second click. Or All doors with one click. You can’t program the back doors individually. Sorry 🤷🏼♂️
Hey on a Toyota 4Runner 2015 will I be able to walk away from the car and the car armed itself automatically I've been robbed twice for simply forgetting to arm my car every time
Greetings, excellent your channel has very good material, after watching some of your videos, I wanted to ask you how you have done to change the roof console, and if it is 100% functional?
@@VikingsGarage I'm sorry I got confused... but I ask you because I have a premium Sr5 and I would like to change the roof console for the TRD, but I'm not sure if it will work 100%
The child-proof window feature is cool, but is there a way to disable it? I have tried to use window flags, but obviously every time I put one on, the window automatically rolls back down when it hits the clip of the flag. My last car I was able to disable it, but haven't found that yet with the 4Runner
Unfortunately you can’t. You should be able to get the flag in there by bringing the window up a little at the time and stoping before reaching the very top. ( Although, honestly I’ve never tried)
Hey bud what do you think about the push to start buttons on the new 4Runners? Frankly I like my physical key but if I want a 2022 or 2023 4Runner before the new 6th gen comes out I have to sacrifice my physical key for a key fob push to start which has vurnabilities to relay theft and I was wondering if it also has issues with potentially anything else it seems like planned obsolescence to me your thoughts are valued cheers
Be not afraid, as far as theft. Not easy to steal at all. It’s a matter of getting used to it, once you do it’s not bad at all. It’s one of those things that will be a thing of the past. Physical key that is. I will be buying a 2023 and will be perfectly fine with it. 🤘🏻 Cheers!
I thought the same thing until I got the 2020. Key fob can be turned off from just holding lock button down and pushing unlock twice. Also, RFD pouch blocks signal. I will never go back to a key. Much faster to enter and start in a hurry. More tactical.
My 2018 has a push to start button. The option started in 2010. Not sure what year keys were permanently (or will be) phased out. I prefer a lot of old-school features but got used to the push to start fairly quickly.
You can have the dealership program your 4Runner to roll down all the windows when you press the unlock bottom twice and and hold on the third press if I recall.
@@aronsanchez6999 Correct. I used Carista to change my settings for stuff like the windows. All I have to do is hold down the unlock button. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to have all of them rolled up unless you do the "normal" way ha. I have a 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition as a reference point.
Cool stuff, but does anyone know how to black out all dash lights with the headlights off? I use my 4runner to hunt and often want to drive in under total darkness. When I kill the exterior lights, I still have some display lights on the dash that are blinding when you try to drive. For now, I drape a towel over the entire dash to block the light so I can see to drive. I would love to be able to completely black out the interior as well as the exterior. I have a 2019 TRD Pro if that makes a difference.
@@VikingsGarage and if that's what I have to do, that is what I shall do. I wish I'd done the research ahead of time and know that it was impossible or seemingly so. It may have been a deal killer. But with me, just having the gas cap on the right side is a deal killer on a new vehicle.
With a good diagnostic scan tool most all functions can be tinkered with or shut off. IE, seatbelt chime, door unlock sequence, etc. Decent ones start around $300. I have yet to get one. Because I also want the damn dash lights and clock to dim when I'm napping at night while traveling.
There’s a small button/ knob on your dash that you would use to reset the trip mileage- turn it counterclockwise and it will dim/ turn off the dash lights. I dim the interior lights all the way down when I get bad headaches. You can practically turn the lights off. Hope this helps!!
It just happened today I found out that the tissue holder and the pen in that glove box or some people call it the middle counsel the tissue holder could be removed
Hello. I'm wondering how your cloth seats have held up with that mileage? I'm choosing between the OR, or OR premium this week. I've heard the cloth wears quickly in these. But, I have never owned a Softex like material and wondering which will be better long term. Thanks!
Either one will show some type of wear overtime,it all depends on the care and wear. My car in specific does have a little wear on the driver seat bottom cloth + the bottom foam is slightly worn on the edge near the door. ( With all honesty I don’t think it would have been this bad if I was the only owner.) Last owner gave zero f’s about this car for first 80k.
Softex will hold up longer than then cloth. However, one should consider the bolster comfort. I purposely declined the Premium because the cloth was more comfortable for me. I wish the softex would have been spongier, but oh well.
Thank you, I couldn’t agree more. If anyone asked what annoys me about this car the most. I would say MPG, but I guess we can’t ask for it all 🤷🏼♂️. Thank you for watching and supporting this channel.
@@VikingsGarage I bought the 2018 and it is missing a LOT of whistles and bells by todays standards. However, I won't change up unless they produce a Hybrid system. And even then, I would wait a couple years for it to be perfected. ;)
I actually think that’s a good idea, I’m trying to spend some time with one to give you guys a comprehensive one. ( We just got a 2022 Trd Pro in white) Possible video, stay tuned.
