Excellent #1 choice. Haven’t seen Southern Comfort in a long time but I remember it well. I think I first watched it as a kid when HBO ran it in the 80’s Great video!!

Thanks so much! Yeah Southern Comfort is awesome. Love the look and vibe of that film. It's the kind of movie that I feel like I should've seen a long time ago, but just never got around to it until this year. Great to hear from you! Thanks for watching and chiming in!

I’ve gotta get more into Walter Hill’s work. I’ve only seen Southern Comfort and The Warriors on your list. I’ve heard of 48 hours and The Driver but don’t own them. You gave me some other great recommendations my brother! Great to see you again and hope you enjoyed your spring break with the fam.

Yeah you should definitely check out some of his other films then. He's done some very interesting work, and he's got movies for all different kinds of tastes. I love 48 Hours! Eddie Murphy at his classic best. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment my friend! Great to see you as well.

Great topic Fuzz. Walter Hill has a broad range of films that lends itself to great discussion. I honestly had no idea he was involved in Supernova.

Thanks so much Chad! Yeah he's done a number of films where I was initially surprised to find out it was Hill directing. I love how versatile he is as a director. It almost seems like there's no genre that he couldn't handle or work within. I've really become fascinated with his work over the last couple years for this reason (and others lol). Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!

You've sold me on buying the VSU version of southern comfort...I was on the fence about it...I actually really like Red Heat but I LOVE Crossroads and Brewster's Millions.... Crossroads had a big influence on me when I was writing and making my film Dark Roads 79...I got to have a pretty lengthy conversation with Macchio about Crossroads - he is just as proud of it as The Karate Kid and loved talking about it! That guitar battle at the end is absolutely EPIC!!!
@TheOriginalFuzz
@TheOriginalFuzz 3 месяца назад
Very cool man! Yeah Crossroads is a great film from what I remember. Love that battle at the end! I've not seen it in many years, but I always liked it. Southern Comfort is great... it's a pretty gritty, Deliverance-like film. I'm sure Vinegar Syndrome still has VSU units in stock for when they open back up in July (the VS side of the site, that is). I don't believe that title went out of print yet on the box sets. Thanks for watching!

@@TheOriginalFuzz I have seen El Mariachi because as an indie filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez was a legend for making it for $7,000 and I enjoyed it for that...I have never seen the others - not even the wildly popular Desperado however, I have started to get the "Fomo" bug about Arrow's Limited edition releases (same with Vinegar Syndrome's VSUs lol) - I think I may opt for the Desperado only steelbook - as much as I love Arrow's "chunky boxes" (love tht term by the way), I dont know if Id ever actually sit and watch El Mariachi or Once Upon a Time in Mexico... Desperado feels like a must watch/buy to me though - and I dont blind buy very often

Hey Fuzz: You left out a very important Walter Hill film from 1975 featuring themes that carried on to his later films: Hard Times starring Charles Bronson, in probably his best role ever. Plus, Hill was part of the writing crew on Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_Times_(1975_film)

The Driver is a perfect gem of a film, my no.1 Walter Hill film for sure. No.2 would be The Warriors closely followed by Southern Comfort. I find a lot of his later films to be Hollywood schlock that he were made to pay the bills.

Personally I love Hudson Hawk, but it is a movie that doesn't work for most people. The best description I have ever heard of it, is that it's a live action R rated Looney Tunes. If it's comedy works for you, then you will love it. It is one of my favorite Bruce Willis movies, but it is not for most people.

Here are my Top 10 Walter Hill flicks: 1. 48 HRS 2. Hard Times 3. Extreme Prejudice 4. Red Heat 5. Johnny Handsome 6. Streets of Fire 7. The Warriors 8. The Driver 9. The Long Riders 10. Crossroads I’m case you’re wondering why my list is missing Last Man Standing and Bullet to the Head, it’s because they were both big disappointments to me, especially for works by an action maestro as Hill. Being a huge fan of Akira Kurosawa, Toshiro Mifune and Yojimbo (my favorite Japanese director, actor and movie) I thought LMS was a dry and lifeless remake that even lacked many of the charm of A Fist Full of Dollars, the first western Yojimbo rip. Bullet to the Head could’ve also been a nice little nostalgic ride back to Hill’s 80’s winning buddy cop/crook, cop/cop formula of 48HRS & Red Heat…but again we get just another uninspiring B action flick that is so dry with so little chemistry between Stallone and Sung Kang, it made me wonder if Hill is becoming Over the Hill for this material lol 😅

Didn't realize just how many Walter Hill movies I had seen. I love the Warriors and looking forward to watching Driver. Not sure how true it is, but I did hear the Driver series for video games was inspired by that movie. I was a big gamer back in the day and while most kids where playing GTA, I had Driver and loved it. I own the entire franchise. Sorry I am late getting to this video, but as big hockey fan my, I take a break from movies for a couple months to enjoy the Stanley Cup playoffs. Great video Fuzz.

No problem at all my friend, I totally get it. Great to see you Dwayne. Yeah you should definitely check out The Driver then. You'll probably really like it. Your comments about the game piqued my curiosity about what the intent was behind the design of the game, so I looked it up. Found this little blurb about the game on some sort of wiki fandom site. Here's what they had to say: "The game was designed to mimic 1960s and 1970s car chase films. The title and the overall theme seem to be heavily inspired by the 1978 film The Driver by director Walter Hill. Most notably, the 'Training' level at the beginning of the game is a copy of a scene from the movie in which the Driver (played by Ryan O'Neal) proves his skills to some gangsters in a parking garage. The music, overall character design in the cutscenes, and the cars themselves (complete with flying hubcaps), are inspired by films such as Bullitt and television series such as Starsky and Hutch. The game also features a 'Film Director' mode, where a run could be replayed with cameras chosen by the player, and a 'Quick Replay', where the cameras are automatically selected" (source link - driver.fandom.com/wiki/Driver:_You_Are_the_Wheelman ). I was never the biggest gamer, but I do find these connections fascinating. Anyway, yeah Walter Hill has been around for a while and done so much stuff. I've become a big fan of of his style.

Hudson hawk is OK. It's a comedic heist/action movie but it's not one I'd necessarily say anyone needs to own. You only really need to see it once uness you really love it or your a completionist bruce willis collector.
