More great sets from Imprint! That Hackman set it really calling to me, I'll have to pick it up at some point. They just announced a Stephen King set last night that I will probably have to have as well! Thanks, Heath!
I've been meaning to watch all the Carry On films for ages. Their quality is variable but they demonstrate a love of the double entendre in British comedy better than anything else. Plus they helped keep the British film industry alive at a time when it started to struggle. See also the Confessions series. The 1971 UK box office top 10 is quite a thing to see now for example.
Another awesome video! You really capture the excitement for these AMAZING sets! Imprint is just killing it! Love their releases. We are SO fortunate that we can add these Australian releases to our collections, here in the US. My only disappointment was all three of these great sets came out at the same time:) My wallet it aching! :). Bravo Imprint! Keep it up!
This is incredible. What a great time to be a collector of physical media. A lot of these films I grew up with as well mainly through watching with my dad. I just feel like we need endless money to support all of this. Lol
A lot of people use Letterboxd like a social media site, i.e. a place to leave short, pithy comments about something. But really, it's a blank slate when it comes to allowing everyone to share their thoughts on that particular movie. It's a shame to see so many people that watch movies have so little to say about them.
Definitely amazing sets, I managed to grab a couple on sale at JB-Hifi here in Perth, Western Australia. Slow going though as I definitely love special features and have to listen to every commentary before moving onto the next flick. On the Disney decision, every purchase I make in retail (even buying some bluray storage at a Zing store) the staff always express sadness at the end of Disney on physical media here.
Heath, I find if you twist around those rear cards on the boxes, just turn them on the glue's axis and it will come off, the glue glob will be stuck to either the card or the box, but if you roll the glue back and forth it will come off without tearing anything... I got all three box sets recently and have been working my way through them. Great to see Imprint sourcing better quality scans finally!
You're right regarding the free DVD giveaways in U.K. newspapers. That was in the early 2000's or so. I bought one at the time, but off hand I can't remember what it was. Most of the Daily's started doing them, and they covered most film genres.
My Imprint boxes arrived during the week and they are indeed things of beauty. Can't wait to dive into them. In terms of physical media available in stores here in Australia, it really is only JB HI-FI keeping that alive. Not sure if that will continue forever but from what I can see they always plenty of people browsing the physical media shelves and they always have a lot of great sales. They had a 20 per cent sale just as these 3 imprint box sets came out so that was great timing for me! I don't think I've seen Four Rooms. Doesn't ring a bell. I'll have to check it out. I missed that Via Vision had stated releasing the Carry On films so I'll definitely need to get those soon. I wish they could clean up and release a HD Goodies set but I'm guessing the source material available is limited given the DVDs PQ. Don't get me wrong they are more than watchable and if reasonable quality given how they were filed and stored. But like Dr Who of the era I think the source is only available on low quality video.
My Impint package of the 3 sets cleared Canadian customs Wednesday night. Fingers crossed they get here today. Either way I ordered Essential Film Noir Vol. 2 from Amazon and it's out for delivery right now! More like Hardbox August amirite? I'll be here all day folks. Thanks for the coverage and the passion.
Carry On is legendary for British people. But the really popular ones, that people love, Imprint haven't got to yet. Carry on Doctor, Camping, Henry are the era that made their reputation. The early ones are a bit safe and bland. Only in the late 60s early 70s did it get saucier and become much funnier. Wait for those and you may appreciate more why we love them in the UK.
Your mileage will vary. Movies are subjective, but I wouldn’t recommend spending hundreds on a blind buy. All of these movies are worth seeing. Some are better than others.
Greetings from the UK! Love your channel Heath and I love Imprint but what with all the other labels I just can't afford many of these 😢 Your finances are none of my business but I was watching one of your old videos from 5 years ago giving us 5 recommendations for collecting. I picked up many good bargaining tips from that but you seem to pick up every single Imprint release which kind of goes against your 5 tips. Tell me if I'm right, if I'm wrong, no offence intended.
Anything with Richard Pryor catches my attention. I'm not as optimistic about the future of physical media. I believe Disney will continue to do "bad" decisions, and others may easily follow. Tax write offs and paying less riseduals seems to be the bottom line.
Not that I have a dog in this fight, but how could any director or actor box set ever be complete? Do you just avoid box sets entirely because they aren’t 75 discs spanning 50 years?
