Thank you for this list of films. Some of my family where Welsh, but I know very little about Wales, I do not understand why. I have heard from British friends that Wales was treated even worse than Ireland by the English and that there is some national guilt. I don't know why. So Wales in the Movies, if you see this maybe you can recommend some books or resources, I am curious. Thank you all the same for this nice list.

Should give an honorable mention to Yr Ymadawiad. I remember watching Yr Ymadawiad in the cinema and while the film itself was alright the fact I was watching a Welsh language film in a cinema was amazing.

I don't always measure films by Box Office success but for Welshness, I like the delightful 'A Run For Your Money ' 1949 and of course Paul Robeson in 'The Proud Valley' 1940

Just listening to DeolationRadio podcast on Wales on film. Very enjoyable. You seem to be glad of How Gwyrdd Was my Valley's existence as a film, but I'd like to know what you actually thought of it as I've only one welsh friend who's seen it and I got the impression that he found it largely pants and offensively lazy in it's attempt to portray actual Wales.

Patagonia, American Interior. The likes of Submarine, How Green Was My Valley, The Old Dark House are popular too and Zulu has a Welsh subject. Oh, The Silent Village is well worth seeing- imagining a Welsh mining village had been over by the Nazis, as a similar Czechoslovakian one was. And not forgetting Only Two Can Play, Tiger Bay, The Proud Valley, Above Us the Earth. TV series : The Prisoner, Ivor the Engine, Wales: Land of the Wild, Gavin and Stacey, The Dragon Has Two Tongues, Gogs, Superted, TV Film: Grand Slam. Welsh culture in general deserves more attention. In the 2nd Mubi online film world cup, I managed Wales (having managed Japan in the 1st world cup, supported by Martin Scorsese and featured on CNN in USA)

Road to Hong Kong where Peter Sellers (as a doctor) uses a tongue depressor on Bob Hope and says "stick out your tongue and say llanfairpg......" the novel "How Green Was My Valley" is much darker than the film. After seeing Twin Town I will never listen to Myfanwy the same.
