My bothers stag do was at Barrons night club in 2005 and it was just like the film. I have a soft spot for Swansea and this film is one of my favourites.
I get so upset about the media ignoring Wales, especially the BBC who seem to create countless programs and documentaries about events in English and Scottish medieval history they have done 1 about Wales. Iv contacted them lots of times, and they always point out all those wars of the roses programs as Wales' lot.
I am trying to contact Philip John do anyone know is email address Or is locations managers I have tried contacting his agent in London Kathy King but no luck
For the 1941 film's being in black and white, blame Hitler. 20th Century Fox intended to adapt Llewellyn's novel as a color epic to rival Gone With the Wind, and on-location filming was planned. That would have been ideal. Alas, World War II got in the way, and production returned to southern California, where the hills weren't exactly the kind of vibrant green you find in Wales, and accordingly the plan to film in color was dropped. I will forever wonder what might have been... I love seeing Sian Phillips playing such a strong sympathetic character, after having taken in her tour de force performance as the venomous Livia ("They say a snake bit her once, and died") in I, Claudius. The two performances together show what an amazing actress she was.
And I fucking loves it. I remember when it was being filmed around Briton Ferry/Sandfields/Gypo site and especially at St Catherines church in Baglan, with the funeral. It totally represents the Swansea/Neath/Port Talbot valleys….if not the whole of the South Wales Valleys… spot on like. Great review butt…..Tidy.
As an Irish man I think this film is right up there with the snapper, I watch it at least one a year and it never fails to deliver. What a classic !! Well done you for highlighting the brilliance of twin town !!
For all of you saying that she cares more about her younger son more than him you couldnt be further from the truth. She would have let out that same exact heartwrenching scream if her oldest son had been under that sheet. 100%positive.
Welsh chorister Cai Thomas singing this traditional lullaby, Suo Gân, in late 2019: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-whKw72731L8.htmlsi=NJbyfzkYSNvFeLF3 I believe many here will appreciate. And here a live performance by baritone Bryn Terfel (also Welsh): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IE3ryQ-J3Dg.html
Only saw the BBC version recently, and I probably like it the best. Very much agree that it needs more Michael Sheen since he really does make anything better and he's absolutely hypnotic in this. Then again, he could probably read my grocery shopping list instead of Dylan Thomas and I'd be swooning just the same.
Yes, James Rainbird and the Ambrosian Junior Choir. Seems many, even most, still think Bale sang it. This video's description ought to be edited to include the proper song credits.
