A futuristic chat about my situation: Graveyard digger 1: "Oh wow, he burned for three days?!" Graveyard digger 2: "Apparently he really liked his whisky."
I highly recommend jts brown. Both the regular and bottled in bond versions. It’s not a high end unicorn but it has great flavor for a bottom shelf bourbon.
Good video pall I have a couple of them red Long row and 18-year-old Jules get red wine cast finish. Hoip Oll is well for from C Samby West Coast to Scotland
Superb! I have to say that I'm quite surprised on how many of these I have already tried. I didn't expect that. Still, with some of your choices you've given me some serious goals to reach for. Thanks Erik. This was a really interesting list and I appreciate the direction you came from in drafting it. Cheers!
I like this challenge, Erik. I'm trying to explore more regions and just got a bottle of the Nikka. But, your #1 is the ultimate bucket list for Scotch lovers. I've done it in Ireland and I've got a trip to Scotland planned already for 2021.
That's a great review I really enjoyed it as a Scot living in England I couldn't agree more drinking Scotch whiskey in Scotland is just a test I'm sitting here drinking a bottle of Highland Park 12-year-old Viking honour addition very nice have a great day thank you once again 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Love seeing Canada's Lot 40 Cask Strength in your list. My vote for best Rye, or at least best price-quality for a Rye. Even the regular bottling at 43% is pretty great.
Nikka Whisky - From the Barrel ... Nikka states, in response to the new standards for authentic Japanese whisky classifications, on their official website: "This product does not meet all the criteria of “Japanese whisky “ defined by the Japan Spirits & Liqueur Makers Association."
Great review Erik. I like your list. I am personally a huge fan of Indian single malts. Specifically, Amrut Fusion and Paul John Select Cask. Give them a try if you haven't already. I think you'll love them. Especially the Fusion.
I have a bottle of the Amrut Fusion and several bottles of the Amrut Intermediate Sherry Cask. I've tasted Paul john several times at The WhiskyFest and Whiskies of the World in San Jose and San Francisco but have not yet purchased a bottle. Here is my review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MxW_-5bvq6g.html
Thanks for this, very informative. No mention of Indian, German, Spanish, Irish or Swedish whiskeys. Are there any of those I should put on my list before I die? 😊
The only Indian whiskies we get are Paul John, Amrut and Rampur. Overall the Irish whiskies are in need of improvement, nothing that is an "absolute must." I never see German, Spanish, or Swedish whiskies in the USA. I can't recommend a whisky that isn't available.
been to Scotland and had a Scotch with a Scot... learned how to drink it. Was a Glenfiddich 18, little drop of water... and drank it with a 80 schilling beer. Was the Morning "nip"... was after the morning breakfast at 730am, Afternoon Nip was a GlenAllachie 18 with a St Andrews... at 11:30 before Lunch.... the pre dinner nip was amazing as well... was a Glen Garioch with another St Andrews..... I learned that Scots drink whisky with beer, and me being 6'6 at 300 pounds, can not hold a candle to my Brother in Laws Father In law... and he is maybe 5-7, 125.......
Kilchoman also does some stellar red wine casks, as does Arran. But Longrow is just awesome! I wanted this year's Pinot Red, but it sold out in about 2 weeks! Not sure if we got a smaller allocation this year, but I was saddened to see it disappear so quickly (glad I at least got a taste 😊).
Great listen, Erik! The American/Canadian stuff is the trickiest for me to try over here... as an Australian living in Sweden. I know Master of Malt has some of the US stuff at extreme prices, but I'll be getting to the UK later in the year, and Scotland for some distillery tours next year, so will be ticking a few off the Bucket List ;)
Great list! I totally agree with your assessment of Lot 40! Being from Canada I'm spoiled as I've had several bottles of both the 12 year and 11 year (admittedly I prefer the 12): but both are fantastic, even the base expression shows you what a 100% rye can be! I'm not surprised that you mentioned wine finished Scotch single malts but as an alternative the Green Spot Wine Geese series? The Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton is one of my favourite whiskies ever.
I've been exploring the world of whisky for less than 6 months and I already got a bottle of those 10: the Nikka from the barrel! Lucky me, I guess. I've been planning to visit Scotland for a few years now and I'm gonna do it sooner or later. I'll definitely drink some whiskies there and I might as well visit Islay!
Where can I find a Nikka from the Barrel for an affordable price? I live in Southern California and the only two sources for where I get my whiskey is either Total Wine or Ramirez Liquor.
@@lunaarran6965 I wish. I don't have the money or time to head out there with you. I'll be sure to watch you and Erik in the pit. Judas Priest and Amon Amarth are going to be epic.
Erik, I saw a Longrow Red 11yo Cabernet Sauvignon for $99. How ever I cannot find it listed anywhere. I see the LRR 13 yo Cab or a LRR 11 yo Chilean Cab. but the label at my store is LRR 11yo Cab Sav. Do you know if this expression is real and is it worth purchasing? Thanks
I just Googled "Longrow Red 11yo Cabernet Sauvignon " and it is listed on the wine-searcher search engine for $249.97. Longrow reds in general are very good whiskies.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies thank you Erik. Just heard back from Longrow (Springbank) and they confirmed the bottling in 2012. Think I may have found a good/great value for $99.
You really got into Ralfy-numbers there Erik, congratulations! and well deserved, a great list! I was so lucky with my ECBP: got it for 39,99 $ in Chicago during our summer holiday! ❤️🤘
The Lot 40 CS Rye is an excellent expression. Even the standard release is pretty good. The 12 Year from 2017 was the best version so far, imo, though the 11 Year was right up there. Hoping the 2019 release will be at the Banff Whisky Experience this year, as I believe Corby is preparing to launch the new Northern Border Collection. As for a Canadian-style whisky to try before you die...I'd lean more to the Gooderham & Worts line from JP Wiser's, myself. The Little Trinity was amazing, and Eleven Souls was a masterpiece of barrel blending.
A sincere THANK YOU for this from me Erik. I really enjoyed this video and the explanations of your choices. Some of these bottles are attainable to me at MSRP. I really like that you chose pours that aren't super expensive. One would think a list like this would be littered with the most expensive Macallans, Laphroaigs or Ardbeg Twenty Somethings. You chose stuff that is attainable. Lastly the choice of Metal used was so good.
Great choice of music, hilarious opening clips and a very thoughtful choice for #1---the experiences from traveling and visiting are truly priceless. Thanks Erik!
Check out my video "My TOP 10 WHISKIES FOR 2021" My #2 whiskey is IRISH! Watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xWCyvFxwoPM.html
A really and honestly wonderful video! The beard rocks 🤘! And sich a great perspective on the world of Whisky! From a European perspective: filling a bottle at a Scottish distillery: almost normal! Finding Elijah Craig Barrell Proof: heaven! Greetings from Chicago, until Monday 😊
Rooster1984 some whiskies you can buy at your local whisky shop... others you need to hunt for them on Google. But, because CR bottles are hard to get by the time a store lists them on their website they may be gone. Try using “Wine-Searcher” website for finding bottles in you area.
Thanks, I've done a few like this - mostly Top 10 lists. I'll be doing another like this after I get back from visiting Texas distilleries in a couple weeks.
Look at the date of the video. Then look at my Play List for Irish Whiskies. ALL of the Irish Whiskey videos recorded AFTER this video was posted. In 2020 I did 4 months of nothing but Irish Whisky reviews. I'll post my Top 10 Whiskies of 2020 on January 1, 2021. Stay tuned, there may be an Irish whiskey on the list!
Done that, done that... finding these juices in L.A.? Easier to die...aside from getting solid big distillery stuff from Costco, already moving onto rum - not telling what.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I will say, irish whiskey is a tricky one. Americans are so easy to out off irish whiskey because of the oversaturation of poor quality irish whiskey available in the states. I now am going through my collection and am trying my hand at collecting irish whiskey because of all the e impressions in the whiskey world, I find great irish whiskey one of the hardest to obtain. But there are so many insanely great irish whiskey that most people dont know about. Have fun on your planned trip and make sure you blog it here so I can envy you! Haha
These are a bunch of unicorns which are not remotely available to the common whiskey enthusiast. And to buy these bottles would be many thousands of dollars. This is not try before you die, this is try and go bankrupt.
I can't recommend anyone go to Feis Ile as it has quickly become a massive clusterfuck tourist trap. Absolutely go to Islay at any other time of year, especially just before or just after summer. Don't go for the festival.
We don't use the word "fuck" on my channel because some fuckers get offended and give the video a thumbs down and then declare that they are fucking unsubscribing. So, please don't say fuck in my comment section.
Erik, love your videos. You sound drunk AF in this video. You're trying hard to play it straight, but your annunciation is interesting, to say the least.
+Marco Cavada nope, I was 100% sober. I just heavily enunciate and use my hands and facial expressions to communicate. Many other people who do videos or public speaking are practically monotone and really boring to listen to.
I don't have epilepsy so I have no need to warn you. If you have epilepsy you probably should NOT be drinking whiskey as it can trigger epileptic seizures in some people (I Googled the topic).
As I mentioned to other commenters, I've not explored Irish whiskies enough to put one on my list. But, I am planning a trip to Ireland to visit 24 distilleries... maybe in 2020.
+WhiskyJason by REAL Japanese Whiskey I’m not referring to a parent company but the source of the casks. Nikka From The Barrel is drawn from a blend of more than 100 different batches of malt and grain whisky produced at the brand's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. According to their website it is 100% from Japan, not Scotland.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies it is probably a mix - adventuresinwhiskyland.com/2016/07/04/nikka-from-the-barrel/ The question is - where are the 1+million liters of new make being used for that Ben Nevis makes and which are then shipped to Japan every year?
