My favorite icy video game level is Mt Coronet from Pokemon Platinum! Just, The music and environment are so nice!

I'm disappointed that Danger: Icy Conditions Ahead from Yoshi's Island didn't make this list. What's not to love about Yoshi on skis?

0:17 Dude Boston is completely different. Basically the weather is mild and there's no snow at all for the first month and a half. Then once Late January/Early February rolls around, just when everyone thinks we'll be spared this time, Jack Frost takes a huge dump on us for 2 weeks straight. Blizzard after Blizzard after Blizzard. And then it lays dormant for a week just as March happens and everyone thinks it's over. But nope! We usually get hit with one or two more snow storms. It usually stops when April comes but were in no way back to normal. Despite being freaking April, it's still cold and there's still huge snow hills on every street corner. Then at around the third week of April, when the Boston Marathon takes place ad our spring break, spring comes out of nowhere and it's beautiful again. I don't get my city sometimes.

Metroid Prime-Phenomena drift was by far my most memorable snow area in any game for my experience. The feeling of being desolate and cold all by yourself in a world of obscurity help me form this area as being very vivid compare to some other dampy areas. The soundtrack is phenomenal, so rich and relaxing at the same time blasting your way through the ice monsters with hard shells on their back with no eyes, using the powershot of the dazzling wavebeam. Getting lost in the game, but no where near frustrated because that place was a sanctuary of blank snow and serenity.The soundtrack was magnificent and well crafted, it was very lenient and slow pace for my ears had not to struggle catching the waving notes. My childhood all in the midst of the scattering flakes brings backs fond memories...Thank you the remainder of such a incredible feeling.

I was anticipating Valak Mountain from Xenoblade would not appear on this list. It's such a beautiful Winter location.

Oh god am I the only one that prefers Snowman's Land to Cool Cool Mountain? I hate that level so much, why can you fall off into the void? The ice physics make that level a nightmare when you can just slip and fall off into nothingness. Plus it introduced the absolutely hellish slide levels (even if its isn't as bad as Princess Secret Slide's). Give me Snowman's Land ANY day

Snowpeak Ruins is my favorite dungeon in the series. I love the music, the atmosphere, the layout, the boss... Plus, you can go back any time you want to essentially get free potion. Mount Wario is one of my favorite courses in MK8. The music and track design makes me feel like it's a spy movie, for some reason.

I've been playing Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games DS for years and I could tell you the Dream Events on that game are beautiful. Dream Figure Skating especially has a very nice Christmas feel to it. Especially if you set the weather to snowing. The adventure tour has some beautiful sceneries and music so I love playing it over the Christmas break.

Tropical Freeze's soundtrack wasn't just inspired by Dave Wise - It was actually *composed* by him. Retro Studios got him back to write the score for that game, and it's incredible!

All great levels. But let's not forget "Snowball Park" from Mario 3D World or "A Little Light Snowfall" from Yoshi's Woolly World. I definitely get the holiday vibe from those levels. Or if you've got friends or family to play with during the holidays, why not dig up Mario Party 3 and play on Chilly Waters?

Phendrena Drift's music is great, but it slowly drives you insane, after getting stuck and staring at maps for 10 minutes... never disappoint, Retro Studios.

I'm so glad Snowpeak Ruins was on this list. I rarely hear people talk about it, yet I love the aesthetic of the dungeon. Definately one of my favorite dungeons in the series overall.

I knew that Phendrana Drifts would be on this list. The first time I entered the area, I just stopped and looked around, paralysed by a wave of melancholy. No other area in any of the Metroid Prime games captures such a powerful sense of loneliness. One of my favourite areas in any videogame.

God I love Metroid Prime, I know I'm pretty much just a fanboy but it is just SO FUCKING GOOD. I cannot wait for Metroid Prime 4

I loved Paper Mario's Shiver Mountain! The music, the snowy scenery and cozy villages and shiny ice crystals. I love the winter. Another winter level I enjoyed was Pokepark's Iceberg zone!

I wanted Chilidip Cove From the Legendary Starfy T-T Good video though.

Wow, I knew Phendrana would make the list but I didn't expect it would top it! Have to agree with you JWittz, Prime is probably still one of the most beautiful games I've played.

Its not a real 'level' but my favorite winter area in games is your village in Animal crossing, its just so nice to look at and the music that plays while it's snowing is so calming and enjoyable.

my fave is snowdin forest in undertale. first theres snowy trees then a calming soundtrack then the snowdin town where you can relax in a shop, its so good

I don't actually remember the name of the area, but I LOVED the Snow World from Pokepark: Pikachu's Adventure. It had such serene music, and just running around the area as Pikachu was fun and you could play games with them. I mean I don't think it did anything unique with itself as a snow world, but it was so beautiful and festive.

I loved the upper region of Mt. Coronet! How it looked with the music was just amazing! I can't wait to see how that looks in Gen 4 remakes!

I loved Yoshi's Island Snowboarding section where Yoshi turns into a Snowboard. That moment when Nintendo reuses ideas for newer games

Valak Mountain is easily my number one. Apart from the mountain being a total BITCH to traverse because of the crappy camera angle and few Skip Travel points, it's utterly beautiful. Valak Mountain at night is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in a video game. And the music. *Oh god the music.* The piano and the light use of maracas(?) and cymbals is so calming. Y'know what, I'm gonna say it. Call me out on it all you wish, but I'm saying it: Valak Mountain is more beautiful than Phendrana Drifts could ever be.

During the video, I kept remembering a winter level. But I wasn't sure until you said "absorbing you into the game's atmosphere" when I realised that what I was thinking of was Xenoblade Chronicles' Valak Mountain

Finally! Someone gives Kirby's Epic Yarn some love and no surprise Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze gets a mention in this list, that game had some of the best ice levels in any video game.

Mount Wario is absolutely my favorite Mario Kart track as of yet, and it's part of the best sequenced cup I've ever seen, the MK8 Star Cup. One other part to mention: You go across a friggin dam!!!

I am so happy with this list! That DK level may very well be my favorite 2D platforms level EVER, and Metroid Prime is my favorite game ever no doubt, so I'm very glad to see my favorite area from that game in this list :)

Snowdin from Undertale. Talk with snowmen, play with warrior dogs trying to kill you, funny skeletons miserably failing to capture you, and you end your trek through the snow by visiting the town itself, which is really cozy and homely. ^^

My favorite Winter levels are Ice Mountain and Ice Paradise from Sonic Advance 1 and 2 respectively. When I heared Ice Mountain Act 1's music after randomly picking up my DS Lite and playing SA1 one day, I got filled with so much nostalgia that I almost cried.

Phendrana Drifts FTW man, amazing terrain, great BGM, and overall just a fun challenging section of the game!

Take notes here Jwitz. The reason why Stop N swop didn't work is because Banjo Tooie was originally meant for the N64DD. I will assume you were gonna have to have Banjo Kazzoie in the N64 cart slot & Banjo Tooie in the Disk Drive. But when the DD flopped the original Stop N Swop concept was scrapped.

Great video! But David Wise was the composer for Tropical Freeze. He left Rare in 2009 and was able to work with Retro Studios for their second (and amazing) DK Country game

when you said what number one was my reaction was "oh HELL YEAH!" i loved this game. My friend and I took turns playing it together to beat it and never played without the other one present so we both got to see everything. Such a fun game. I love the metroid series. Also glad to see Twilight Princess getting some love on the list. Huge zelda fanboy as well

As "tempting" as the Chicago route is I prefer the Iowa route. It's like a Mom during Christmas time "Will it snow this Christmas Iowa?" "You have to wait till Christmas to find out" "Ok, but you better not have gotten me corn this year". I approve of #2 and #5 Don't need to worry about snow, I'm in the southern hemisphere, Christmas here is a summer Christmas.

It isn't really a level but: The climb to the peak of Mt. Coronet. Good LORD is the music beautiful there! And the scenery, while a little basic, is quintessentially snowy.

I wanted to see Valak Mountain. It's super pretty with the glowing crystals at night, ice physics are hilarious, and there's even a chapel and ghosts for Christmas.

Either Snowpoint or Snowbelle city have to be my favorite winter-themed Nintendo levels.

I loved Snowman's Land in Super Mario 64 DS. It was fun getting the Stars, beating up the Ice Bully and using a Green Shell to get the Silver Stars and in the igloo was nice. Loved it. DK Pass was my favorite MKDS track with the secret item box.

I can't remember the name but Bomber Man 64 had an awesome snow level imo. The boss battle with the ice ninja...bomb....guy was so cool as a kid for me
