I kind of understand the criticism for Near as he seemed too similar to L (at first glance at least) but Mello was a great character. He did things chaotically and totally different than L. He joined the mafia. He had an inferiority complex and emotional problems but had such a strong initiative. You shouldn't lump him with Near just because they showed up at the same time. There's much more too Mello than liking chocolate and so much more to Near than liking toys as the toys were often used as symbolism. I am almost 99% certain that if Mello and Near showed up before L died they would be regarded by most as just as great as L.

Yeah, if only Rebecca was the female lead in the original Yu-Gi-Oh, because I agree. Tea was just...there so the group can have a female lead. Rebecca's at least smart, can actually duel and put up a fight, hell, she won an off-screen tournament at some point after the Duelist Kingdom arc, and while her clinging to Yugi can get pretty annoying from time to time, they don't overplay it and another thing that puts Rebecca above Tea in terms of character, is that she's not confused about which version of Yugi she likes, if anything Rebecca's a better match for Yugi, hell, even Mai could've been the female lead, because she at knows how to play the game and again can put up a fight.

Tea was horrible in Yugioh, in Season Zero she had a hell of a lot more character and the difference between them if you watch some clips back to back is astounding

In defence of Yana from Golden Time. Koko was not getting the message! It was not going through he skull that Yana did not see her as more than a friend. Sometimes you have to be harsh to a person like that, or else they just won't stop or see the light. If he didn't tell Koko the way he told her, then she would still have hope and would never have gotten together with the MC. Plus she did act like a bitch to Yana's crush at the time just hours before.

In Near and Mello's (slight) defense, they were originally planned to be L's two sons. So the fact that Near and Mello are (more or less) L split in half actually makes sense. And to be honest, I don't think it matters whether they're similar to L or nothing like him. People would still hate them regardless of what the creators do just because they're not L, which is sad. Death Note aside, I'm pleased with Téa being on this list. I didn't like her at all when I was a child and even to this day, I still think there's no point to her existance. As for Sarah, I didn't dislike her. But the fact that I could remember Iori - the cat Yakumo took care of - but couldn't remember Sarah - Yakumo's best friend - until I heard her name clearly shows how "important" she was.

I think Tea is okay. She’s not the best female character in the fandom, but she’s not the worst.

You kinda have a point about Tea there Tony. I mean, she doesn't really do anything throughout the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! Series. Sure she's duelled 3 times in the Anime: Once in the first Episode against Joey, second against Mai in Duelist Kingdom, and later in the Virtual World Arc, but that's it! 95% of the time she just cheers Yugi and the others on during their duels. THAT'S IT!!!

As much as I remember, Melo didn't solve anything. And between him and Near... Melo is better. I'd prefer near's death, really. About Tia... Tristan also doesn't have a major role except for Joey's buddy, and sometimes the brave friend. Tia is opposite to Joey and Tristan, she shows their behaviour is so stupid. And it would be sad if Yugi will be the most girly in the anime, right?

Although I don't know most of these animes, I'm SO GLAD to finally see someone who can spot when a character is bad! Some people naively love terrible characters, mostly just because they're "sooo cute (and busty) gurls", even when they're obviously abusive or plain useless! So, well, thank you! ^^

I agree with you about Risa. I mean, I didn't feel a strong connection between her and Junichi, and the fact that she kept girls away from him was pretty bad. At first, I could think that she meant well, since she said that the girl going on a date with Junichi was basically doing it for kicks, but now that I really think about it, that could also be a lie.

The thing with Near and Melo they were not wannabees, they were picked by L himself in case something happened to him. Technically L was the one to bring down Kira, like I said, L picked these two in case something happened to him and he already had everything in place in case something happen to him so in a way L was the one to bring Kira down.

For me would be Light Yagami from Deathnote. I know the whole point of his character is to be more and more broken with power as the show goes on, but no scene satisfied me more than one of the police softies shooting that motherfucker 6 times and him running away as he slowly dies.

Your arguments about Sarah is legitimate (did they just want a white girl on the show" but is she really deserving of 2nd place? Its not like she is the only bland, unnecessary character in a piece of fiction before. She is too insignificant to be on any list. Even in this one.

Mello is actually one of my favorite characters, I disliked Near with a passion tho, he had basically no goals or personality. I think Mello was a really great character due to the fact he had tons of potential, but really wasn't given a chance to do much. In my opinion, the ending to Death Note felt very rushed and a lot was left open to the viewers. I disliked the fact L died so early on, I would of liked for L to bring in Mello and Near to teach them the ropes. I honestly don't feel like Mello acted much like L, he was very hotheaded and emotional. L really didn't act on his emotions as Mello did, Mello tended to act before thinking and his hatred for Kira and Near fueled him. And, from what the author said... The children in the Whammy were raised to basically be copies of L. All they were suppose to be was L, so they were raised to match L to a T. So, I guess I just kinda felt that is why they acted so much like L. I would of liked to actually see Mello and Near in the Whammy and to see what all happened there. And, it would of been nice to get more screen time actually following them and learning who they were as characters. Again, the ending felt rushed and not much time was given to Mello or Near to see what their full personalities were like. I think Misa felt more like a good fit for this list, but even then... I actually felt she could of been an amazing character if not for her love of Light. Anyways, I loved Mello and hated Near.

At first glance he is a mummy with boxing gloves, but then when he fights he loses both the bands and the gloves to turn into a indian tribes dude with holes in his body which he uses to fight his opponent via the sound they make when he moves. But hold up, there are more inconsistencies. His ultimate attack is that he summons the planet jupiter to crush his enemies. So he is an evil boxing indian tribes man hole sound killing planet summoning mummy. Good job settling on 1 gimmick animators.

I thought that Mello and Near were both bland. I was especially irritated that they were the ones that took down Kira.

Worst characters in good anime (for me personally): Lisanna from Fairy Tail. Don't even get me started on this loser. Lisanna tried to play the whole "husband,wife, and child" thing with Natsu when they were children. And what was the point in bringing her back to Earthland? Her return made Mirajane and Elfman's grief and healing process completely pointless. Lisanna has weak and crappy magic, making her useless in combat. And she has no distinct personality. Lisanna felt really dull and flat for me. I personally think that Lisanna's the Fairy Tail equivalent to Kairi from Kingdom Hearts. Think about that. Suguha, Silica, and Lisbeth from Sword Art Online (yes, I liked this anime): Suguha's one-sided incest crush on her cousin Kirito. Enough said. I know nothing about the other two outside their love for Kirito except that one's a beast tamer and the other is a blacksmith. But that's it for those two. Waste of screentime. And don't bring up light novel examples please.

Near was worse than Mello. Mello had a his own motive of trying to live up to L's legacy over Near. Near was just a less entertaining L.

I have to disagree with some things you said about seryu, if u remember in the show i believe the writers make her somewhat sympathetic. The reason she was so hell bent on taking out night raid was because she had lost her parents and later in the series her patreon to what she was bought up to believe was evil. Her ideals about justice is very black and white so when she killed sheele she was doing what she believed would've been for the better. I think had her circumstances been different and was bought up in a unbiased way, seryu might have been on a different side. I understand that her actions cannot be justified but if you re watch her death scene she says " we haven't finished purging all of evil" which goes to show how devoted she was to achieving what she believed in. I actually think she is a well- written character which acts a criticism for " justice" in the real world and tells the audience to question our own morals on whats good and bad.

10:41 "What a spit in L's legacy that he wasn't as good of a detective as these two," I always feel the need to explain something when someone dislikes the way Death Note ended. L > Light > Rem Light > Near/Melo > Mikami Light was not smarter than L, and Near and Melo were not smarter than Light. In both cases, the victor simply outsmarted someone else that ended up dragging the loser down. Light never beat L at his own game, he only played Rem to force her into killing L for him to save Misa. And Near never outsmarted Light, he outsmarted Mikami who dragged Light down with him.

I actually like Tea. But i can see why people might find her annoying. And it's good to know that you enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh
