Sealmaster Meisei is so freaking cool looking. All the card art he's in is so sick. Meisei is definitely on the list of "Old-school cards that need an archtype around them". Right up there with Gate Guardian, and Warrior Dai Grepher.
Was rewatching the worst cards videos via playlist and Meisei is an anagram of Seimei which is the name of one of Japan’s most famous Onmyoji: Abe no Seimei who it was most likely a reference to. Bit of background on Seimei: his mother is a kitsune by the name of Kuzunoha according to the legends.
Dark Magician. I can say that because I actually have a collection of Dark Magician cards and the presence on the artwork is the condition for me to collect it, not the archtype alone (Dark Magic Curtain isn't present, for example).

Example, from this video I found out about the workaround for Aurora Paragon, which is basically the only easy to use SS floodgate not banned in the format. I can run it in counter fairies since I can summon it from the deck

If you want to be a bit silly with the Talisman of Trap Sealing or Talisman of Spell Sealing, you could get one of them active and then use your Sealmaster Meisei as an Xyz Material. Since it doesn't "leave the field", it doesn't trigger the self-destruct of the Talisman, but since it's no longer on the field, it's not sitting there as a weak point for the Talisman. Is this actually a good way to use the Talismans? Nope; it's still too inconsistent. It's just a thing that technically works.
@@brianaguilar8283 Sure, Sealmaster Meisei is pretty easy to access. The thing is that that's only part of the process. The Talismans can't really be searched effectively (that's the main reason this would be inconsistent), plus you need to field another Level 3 alongside your Sealmaster. Granted, that last part's pretty easy. Perhaps the biggest problem, though, is that you can only have one Seal active at a time (each one would prevent the other from activating, and even if you could get both of them face-up at once, one would negate the other), and the one you arguably want more in most matchups is Talisman of Spell Sealing... which is a Continuous Trap. So unless you can resolve Boogie Trap or Makyura the Destructor (Makyura probably being the better option of the two) on top of everything else you need to do, you can't even do it Turn 1.
@@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 Theoretically, the kind of play I mentioned would be *less* inconsistent in Master Duel, but we're still talking about what would probably be at least a 3-card combo, with at least one unsearchable piece. Even with the extra draw power Master Duel allows, those kinds of combos are not dependable. On top of that, there wouldn't be much point. If you want to lock down Traps, Royal Decree is available at 3 and doesn't involve jumping through nearly as many hoops. If you want to shut down Spells, Imperial Order is at 1, and there's also Secret Village of the Spellcasters if your deck can accommodate that.
During my middle school era, i made a deck revolving around sealmaster meisei and talisman of trap sealing and equiping it with myst body for protection. It worked against several friends and made me a top (sorta) duelist in the school. and i also maindecked jinzo
You're mixing it with Stygian Dirge which is a really powerful card in DL meta right now. And it was in a box with 50% discount so bascally everyone has it now

@@Drakorre I kind of understand in the anime why the character that played Gouki changed the deck, I mean, his whole deal was he was trying to change, but man changing a very consistent deck like gouki for that crap, I mean, Dinosaurs have this curse of being good by themselves now but having really bad archetypes.
@@Slayerthecrow it’s only there as a foolish target or discard fodder I play Dinowrestlers and even then I feel like it works AGAINST what you wanna do If you have UCT and a Dinowrestler Chimera T Wrextle on board it actually hampers you since you can’t OTK with both of them, unless you use UCT’s effect to destroy Chimera T Wrextle, Book of Eclipse everything and Raigeki Link Monsters. And that’s only if Misc is protecting them
A good way to keep Sealmaster Mesai around is to equip it with Heart of Clear Water(which can be equipped onto monsters with less then 1300 ATK and prevents them from being destroyed by battle or by the effect of any card that targets it, though damage is still applied so you're best finding some way to get it into defense mode first)
The Mesai cards’ Achilles heel isn’t just the monster... it’s the fact that they shut off ALL spell/traps, not just your opponents... meaning if you want to use cards like Waboku or clear water to protect him, you can’t be running the floodgate on your opponent.
@@lancerguy3667 Clear Water works if you're using the version that prevents activation of traps, you just can't have both the spell and trap version active at the same time.
Insect barrier was part of one of the first locks in Yu-Gi-Oh, you used to combine it with DNA surgery to make all opponent's monsters insects and then stop attacks with the barrier
That was a really really awful combo though and nobody seriously used that. You'd be much better off using swords of revealing light and magic reflector since those cards at least aren't useless on their own, but even that was a weak lock that nobody seriously used.
Summon Aurora Paragon, equip Power of the Guardians, activate any card that add counters on power of the guardians ( mythical beast stuff, like Mythical Bestiary ). Profit, it is legit an strategy that i used to play on ygopro.
I would really be into a Top 12 Levels video, as inspired by Cuben's presence on this list. It could go into XYZ plays, archetypes and generic cards that support those Levels, and maybe even things like Reasoning or similar cards that have varying effects depending on the Level of a card.

My favorite floodgate, is still that spell that stops monsters with 1500+ attack from attacking (I think it’s called Royal Decree) Not because it’s good, but because it has the most inconsequential maintenance cost ever. During your standby phase, you must pay a whole 100 lp. And if you can’t, the card destroys itself. So yes, if you stalemate yourself opponent and then somehow reshuffle enough cards into your deck. Then after 156 turns, you can be in Sparks range. So you better plan ahead or this will ruin you quick.

9:33 I hate how link monsters interact with tokens. I was nowhere near good enough to be in tournaments, but Master Rule 4 is pretty much why a lot of my friends who did used to go stuck to casual games only after that. I mean we do play link monsters, but I suspect the only reason the meta within our small circle didn't change is that a lot of us are clinging onto old cards that wouldn't work anymore. So many cards were killed by link monsters. When the XYZ era started, it's true that some of the older decks started to lose bite, but it was more due to them not being good enough as newer cards were released and not being invalidated by the introduction of a new mechanic. As new cards are introduced, some give certain older deck more viability and some will make them obsolete. When link monsters were made it wasn't "these specific named link monsters make some older decks unviable" (lots of things can't beat Borrelsword Dragon, but if a level 9 Synchro Monster with 1 Tuner + 1 Dragon + 1 non tuner had the same effect, they couldn't beat this Borrelsword clone either so those decks being incapable of handling Borrelsword has nothing to do with it being a link monster) but "link mechanics as a whole just invalidates some of the older decks." I still enjoy watching gimmick decks, no matter what the era though.
I actually used Meisei back when I was in high school... well, partially. I ran 3 copies of Meisei and 3 copies the Anti-trap spell in a really crappy spell caster/spell counter deck. The conceit of it was that I’d summon Meisei if I was ready to swing for game, then use the spell to turn off all my opponent’s battle traps. Called it the “too broke for a Jinzo” engine. It, uh... it wasn’t very good, you may be surprised to learn, but it worked often enough to justify a place in my lunch table deck
I kinda disagree on spatial collapse, that card has been a lifesaver for my Burn damage Deck. Too many times the opponent had only 1 monster on field which dealt 1800 damage or so thanks to my Void trap hole taking care of the special summoned ones, making possible for me to win the duel with burn damage before my LP went to 0. However it can easily be punished by cards that destroys spell or trap cards.
I feel like the Talisman cards are ripe for future abuse. There just needs to be a meta-relevant deck that can easily get out Sealmaster Meisei and then prevent their destruction when Meisei leaves the field and that deck with then have easy access to Jinzo and Spell Canceler in S/T form, which would be broken as fuck. EDIT: Alternatively I think just copying the name of Sealmaster Meisei would work too and since Meisei won't have left the field when the name copy wears off then that would work to accomplish the same goal unless there's some obscure ruling regarding name copying that I don't know about.
There is a fun 1-card Aurora Paragon combo with Condemned Witch. Condemned Witch Specials a Level 4 Fairy during your opponent's turn. So Normal Summon Condemned Witch, search Forbidden Droplet, pass. Now in your opponent's turn, when they Normal Summon, you can negate the effect of their Normal Summon monster with Droplet, and then Summon Aurora Paragon from Deck. Now they already Normalled, can't Special, and can't beat over the Paragon cause its attack is halved.
I’m not sure if you’ve done this before, but how about Best Monsters that Must Destroy Your Own Cards? Like how Black Rose Dragon wipes the whole field, or Phantom Knights of Break Sword needs to destroy cards on both sides?
To be fair to Emperor’s Holiday, it was released during the one era of YGO where equip spells were a big deal. The problem was that it was at the tail end of that era when such decks were on their way out anyways. It’s honestly kind of hilarious how many cards they made to counter beatdown after beatdown stopped being the best deck because chaos and yata lock decks happened. PS: beatdown decks mostly just liked having equip spells anyways. They didn’t need them and really would have either had bigger issues than Holiday or no issues from Holiday depending on the deck that would have played it, if that makes sense.
fun fact, finite cards is a good counter if you play a exodia deck. since they have no way to get it out and their hand well be lower then five. unless they can get all five into their hand in one turn

I was playing Tag Force 5 and dueling a NPC for grinding DP, and she was pretty easy to defeat using The Emperor's holiday since her use Vylon monster and a lot of equip spells, and was the equip spells that was making things a bit hard. so I need thanks you to show me this niche floodgate, it's work very well in this specific situation for me!

1:40 i remember using that cheese combo in DL along with power of the guardians, as no other monster prevented special summons at the time untill they added Ally of justice quarantine.
I used to love spacial collapse, but it's really only good against AI because it doesn't really play around anything. The deck was made out of all trap cards and DD Barrier 😁
I remember using Non-Fusion Area in the first Tag Force game to nerf Jaden in the early game so I could use him to farm DP... until I found the Obelisk blue student with the burn deck that could only set unusable traps after Des Wombat hit the field lol.
I don't think The Emperor's Holiday should have been here, or at least should have been a runner up because it came out during a time when Equip Spells were actually useful and very powerful, like Mage Power, United We Stand, Premature Burial, Fairy Meteor Crush, Axe of Despair, and Black Pendent. It's only bad now because Equip Spells have become pointless, but back in the day, this card was useful for the side deck if you didn't want to discard a card for Magic Jammer or use your one MST or Imperial Order as those were limited back then to remove those Equip Spells

"The order of the emperor " is actually great vs the new Normal summon Bird arctipe. Since it isn't once per turn. And Narrow Pass -- but its still trash.

As a Krawler Player Ivé just seen some of the scariest cards / strongest Card against Krawlers & Hope that I'm never Counter Side decked by the player I know ; I usually never reveal cards that I know can counter me to people I know, just to stay safe.
In MD, before the new Ursarctic support, I used Discord and Non Area Fusion to negate the entire Extra Deck (Septentrion already negates Link and XYZ). Regarding Respect Play, The Eye Of Truth does the same but better, it only affects the opponent and if you have Bad Reaction or Shimochi the disadvantage does not exist.
