He gave those last two movies "worst" of 2004 because he was appalled at the empty pretentiousness of making a film about "ancient times" and assuming everyone will worship it and think it's deep.
OMG, White Chicks was just so bad. I didn't watch the whole thing. Why would anyone do that? And there are people that actually PAY to rent that movie.
I wish that Roger Ebert is alive in 2022 reviewing Jobs, La La Land, Nocturnal Animals, Down a Dark Hall, Gloria Bell, Bombshell, Greta, Hellboy, Her Smell, The Mustang, Promising Young Woman and Last Night in Soho and got sick with COVID-19.
I've come to increasingly appreciate Troy and even Oliver Stone's ambitious failure, Alexander. They're both deeply flawed, but at the very least, they're visually stunning and have a bit of rugged character and visceral guts to them. Ridley Scott's Gladiator ignited an entire trend of operatic historical epics in the early 2000's (by the way, the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is really good, you should totally watch it) that could only be supported in a pre-superhero, pre-blockbuster franchise exclusive era of Hollywood filmmaking. These movies simply wouldn't be made today, and I think it's a shame. The movie landscape has become so sleek and homogenous. I'll always prefer the ambitious failure to the flat, cookie cutter franchise IP.
Troy wasn’t even that bad though, there were a lot of other movies that were worse that didn’t even make his list. Ebert also panned Die Hard and the Usual Suspects, enough said.
The Girl Next Door, Troy, and The Village the worst 10 of the 2000s? Ok, sure. The Girl Next Door and Troy especially are super entertaining even if Troy's second half is a lot weaker than the first.
I might have some doubts about the village when the ending was revealed I can't really blame them for wanting to get away from society and getting their children away also I might have done the same with what they did really so terrible
Anybody have all of these in their movie collection? . We once owned a copy of Troy ( gasp ) we watched it once my wife enjoyed it, I hated it . It ended up being given away to MovieStop for sale .
