There are nearly 1000 moves in Pokemon and today I'll be looking over what I feel are the worst of the bunch, with the caveat of them not being completely worthless moves like Growl!

I'm greatly shocked that Constrict is nowhere on this list. Literally a useless move since there are better versions of it, it's not learned by a lot of Pokémon, and it has no secondary use at all.

It does have a second effect of lowering speed. I agree with everything else though, constrict should have been included, even if a dishonourable mention.

You'll all think that shocking, I'm mostly appalled by the fact that Splash was not on this, not even as no.1. It's one of the most useless moves Pokemon and it didn't even crack the top 10. WTF!?

To be fair, I'm pretty sure Bubble's damage was bolstered in later games. Water Gun was stronger back in the older gens.

yeah in gen 6, bubble's power was buffed to 40 so it's on par with water gun, but since bubble was one of the moves that got axed in gen 8, this meant that water starters all got water gun by default

Constrict really should have been the number 1 spot on the list. A Normal type 10 base power 100% accurate move with a 10% chance to lower speed has never not been terrible in a battle setting, while at the very least No Guard Machamp could rock DynamicPunch to great effect.

Well he did say he wasn't including moves that are genuinely worthless, like Celebrate and Growl. Constrict would probably run afoul of that as well. This is the top ten worst "only mostly useless" moves. The ten moves that are the closest to total worthlessness without actually crossing that border. Probably more interesting in the end since there'd be absolutely nothing to say about something like Celebrate.

What are you guys talking about? Constrict was such a broken move, that Game Freak had to nerf it by reducing its chance of lowering Speed from 30% to 10% from Gen 2 onwards. But that wasn't enough, so they removed it completely in Gen 8.

In defense of Dynamic Punch, there are some mons like Golurk and Machamp who have No Guard and can learn it, so it's not completely unviable, but you'd still probably rather use a Guts or Iron Fist set for those mons instead, but the option is there.

I would’ve loved this list if the moves were ranked by generation. Like “10 worst moves to use by generation.” Leech life for example in the early gens was utterly useless or could hardly be used. Fast forward to the newer gens and it’s a great move.

And "Watergun is a strictly worse Bubble" only applies in Gens VI and VII. Prior to that Bubble was only 20 base power.

Yes, Bubble used to be 20 base power. It got buffed in Gen 7 I believe so Modern, Mystic's remarks are accurate but as a whole, Bubble has been weaker in most of Pokemon History.

I remember how bad Leech Life was back in the earlier gens which made it kind of hard to train Zubat on it's own early on before it gets to actually gets to learn and use more useful moves like Astonish and Wing Attack.

Psywave - you can use this move on 100 lvl pokemon against 1 lvl pokemon and do literally 1 damage. Gen1 Focus Energy - due to glitch, this move half your crit chance... This move in this generation ONLY make your pokemon weaker.

I still don't understand how the chose to make this move psychic type when psychic type will resist the move. It basically make this move 60 base power instead of 120 (or 0 if you consider umbreon lol). What a trashy move

Mad slap is a really good move because it's a sand attack that isn't affected by taunt kinda like how nuzzle is better thunder wave.

Mud-Slap is good in Gen 2 if you plan on using Wooper or Phanpy since the two don't get Earthquake until much later

To be honest, most of these moves are extremely helpful early game. You can't really say sonic boom or watergun is bad and gets outclassed because that's the case for any move. Ember will always be outclassed by flame thrower and tackle will be outclassed by return. Even Dynamic punch is very viable on no guard mons. Some of the moves you mentioned in the list are bad but others are supposed to be that way because you can't start the game with energy ball or giga drain, that would be too op, you have to start with something weak like absorb

But the main reason for water gun is that it doesn't get a side effect. Ember at least causes burn as a weak fire move. Main issue is that Bubble had an effect of lowering speed cause it was a 20 power move that was increased to 40. So it's more that water gun got power crept in Gen 5

In defense of the 50% Acc. moves, they're actualy pretty good under Gravity. Magnezone in particular learns both Gravity and Zap Cannon, although you're asking for an Earthquake at that point and Gravity Teams are super rare due to a lackluster distribution and there being no way to lengthen its duration.

@@paulrudd1483 Gravity lowers all Pokémon's Evasion by 2 Stages (besides grounding them). This pretty much means that any move with at least 60% Accuracy gets bumped to 100%. Moves with 50% Accuracy get bumped to ~85%.

I think some of the moves exist for thematic purposes. Absorb for example introduces the life gain branch of moves for grass types. Splash (hop) exists only for that reason. Bubble and water gun probably fall into that a bit too. It might be problematic if a pokemon learns both, but having different pokemon with each move gives a feeling of power with water gun, and something slower or more tactical with bubble. Belch could use a rework with being usable but with less power or accuracy before using the berry, but I agree having a chance to miss after meeting the conditions seems too much of a setback to be used much. It might be interesting to look at the abilities and moves that trap vs the ones that allow escape or force switches/escape. I think present could be cool if it was reworked akin to tri attack where it could have a variety of effects as well, or a secret higher chance to heal your own pokemon when used on them.

Worst moves for me 1. Quash 2. Hold hands 3. All the ko moves which has 30 accuracy 4. Accupressure 5. Magnetic flux 6. Inferno 7. Slam 8. Bide 9. egg bomb 10. Struggle bug.

yeah Quash is a really bad move since it's ONLY useful in doubles, and because a lot of pokemon who get Quash have sub-par speed at best, the only 2 who can make use of it are sableye and murkrow since their the only prankster user's who get it

The only time when Dynamic Punch is useful is if you were using a Machamp with the No Guard ability as it turns the move to be 100% accurate. Just be prepared for the drawback of enemy attacking and status moves not missing on hitting Machamp.

I have quite a few things to say. In regards to your #1 spot, these moves are actually very viable in gen 7 if you choose to use them as your Z-move. this way these moves go from being 50% accurate to 100% accurate with a boost in power as well, taking out most pokemon in one hit. the other thing is, there are two other moves in particular that I think are even worse than those: 1. Focus Punch- this is a two-turn move that requires not to be hit in order to work. if you do get hit between turns, the moves fails. since you're most likely to get hit by the time the move actually gets executed, the move is pretty much useless 2. Splash- this move needs no introduction in how worthless it is. it deals no damage, it doesn't do any secondary effects, it has no strategic purpose other than wasting a turn. I'm very shocked this move wasn't number 1 or on your list at all

1. Focus Punch is not a two-turn move. It charges at the beginning of the turn and hits at the end. If the opponent switches, Focus Punch will hit regardless of Speed. 2. The reason for moves like Splash and Celebrate not being covered was given at the beginning of the video.

@@mlvluu9836 This. Also, Focus Punch can be combined with Substitute to ensure it lands. Or land it straight up by predicting an opponent trying to set up. Tricky to pull off but definitely satisfying.

you talked bout Z-Move but failed to mention Z-Splash, which does a +3 on the user's attack stats, furthermore, a player can use Splash in gen 8 to turn it into Max Guard. There are lots of ways to maneuver around it to make it a viable move that could surprises opponent, it's no-where near the no.1 spot lol

The one thing I would add is that DynamicPunch on a No Guard Pokémon, like the Machamp line is pretty great though. That gives it more use than Zap Cannon and Inferno.

I’m a little surprised that aqua ring or wring out weren’t in this list but then you can’t have everything in there. On top of the last three moves they could miss which meant your Pokémon would faint which is so discouraging in every way. Great vid.

i think zap cannon is more viable only because a few of the mons that get it can also get lock on which nixes its hit or miss ratio. whats sad is game freak or Nintendo could improve these moves, many moves have been lost between gens, some have even been nerfed. moves have even been altered from 1 gen to another causing arguments between fans on how a move works Yet it doesn't feel like they benefit from it, maybe some moves have benefited. for example grass whistle could have been upgraded to have a better accuracy while sing could have been upgraded to hit multiple targets like discharge or teeter dance

The fact that Bind is exactly the same as Wrap, but worse, Means that Bind is outclassed by Wrap, which is outclassed by Fire Spin, which is outclassed by Magma Storm. All of which are less reliable than Fire Pledge when it comes to doubles. And being outclassed by a move that in turn is outclassed by a move that sees no play because of how bad it is, is pretty impressive.

I feel like the one exception for absorb would be when it's on zubat. Which i believe got it in gen 7 after leech life got buffed and made it way too strong for Zubat to use early game. The fact that Zubat has access to a grass type move early on, means it has something to deal with water, ground, and even rock types if you're feeling bold/crazy, and now actually has a chance of doing damage against wild pokemon making it much easier to train them up until the get better moves. Which is a GOD send for people like me who love Crobat and want them on my team.

Mystic doesn't put Bubble on the list because there's explicitly a move that's worse than Bubble taking that niche: Water Gun. When you could use Water Gun, you are better off using Bubble instead. Thus necessarily Bubble is given a practical scenario to be used that Mud Slap doesn't have.

I feel like Mudslap would be good damage control on a support pokemon as it can't be taunted and can lower the accuracy of an opponent's attack for partner pokemon.

moves like absorb, water gun and mud slap are just good beginning game moves, but when you get access to Earthquake, Surf and Solar Beam, it's obvious which moves are getting deleted

Mud slap is really slept on for early game coverage. First you made a mistake saying that it was a chance to lower accuracy when it’s actually garunteed. This move isn’t meant for damage tho it’s for long term setup. Imagine you face a gym trainers ace who’s sweeping ur team, then you bring out a tankier Pokémon who can land 2-3 slaps before dying. Now you can slowly kill it while it misses all of its moves. It’s the same as nuzzle, low power in exchange for a powerful effect.

I used to think when I was younger that there was some mechanic about energy in the main games because absorb, mega drain, and other moves would say "their energy was drained." Since it wasn't just default text I swore something was going on

Think you’ve missed the point of pretty much all these moves. They aren’t designed to be great, and shouldn’t be ranked as the “worst”. They do their job early game and are extremely useful then. Moves like Dynamic Punch also is very good on No Guard Pokemon, you’re forgetting how they will work on some Pokemon and be viable. Not a good list at all

When I caught my Mewtwo in the trea raid battle someone used mud slap for most of the battle, and it made it almost impossible for Mewtwo to hit us.

Same here. It was a Mew for me. He was the MVP for sure. I employ that strategy myself sometimes now for other high level raids. It's worth sacrificing your damage to keep your team from fainting as long as they can hit hard enough.

What's even worse is Bind is essentially a carbon copy of Wrap. Both are trapping moves with 15 base power, yet Wrap has 90% accuracy, while Bind only has 85% accuracy. So what's even the point of having 2 normal trapping moves with the same effect?

I'm just glad you excluded perish song. Yes it's a bit of a Russian roulette move but it's best to use it when your opponent has only one mon left and while you have at least two so you can swap out to avoid fainting.

Ayo what? Quash can actually be pretty good if you use it right. Well in Doubles anyway, but yeah in Singles it’s useless But say you’re playing doubles in Swsh right? Let’s say you have Groudon and a Prankster Sableye with Quash, and let’s say the opponent has Zacian. Of course Zacian can outspeed and probably one-shot either your Sableye or Groudon, but if you use Quash, then your Groudon can use Precipice Blades on the Zacian and one-shot it before it can even attack Tldr: If the opponent has a really fast Pokémon, then you can use Quash to force them to go last, so you can attack them, and maybe OHKO them, before they attack

I love belch, and you understand your opponent/moves they have, it can be fun. Kee berry on a pokemon with weak armor to negate the def drop just one example (i can list more if needed). Strongest special move in D-max also(I think). If it had 100% acc and other stuff, it be so good

14:10 I never use Inferno/Zap Cannon/Dynamic Punch for an entire playthrough. However, I usually save the game just before the Pokémon learns the move, watch the animation just so I can see the move in each game before resetting to before the battle so I don't waste a slot on these moves.

Out of all of the choices on this list, I only agree with about half: Belch, Egg Bomb, Present, and the two 55 Accuracy moves. I really thing options like Absorb and Water Gun are really boring choices for moves like these even if there are better options even in the early game. I would have put Constrict over Bind even though that move is inaccurate, and the three 50% Accuracy 100% status chance moves are a very questionable Number 1 choice IMO. Like I get it, it's literally a 50/50-coinflip if they actually hit, but if they had more accuracy they would be busted. And most of the Pokemon that get Zap Cannon do at least have ways of mitigating that accuracy with moves like Lock-On, and also Machamp with No Guard demolishes things with DynamicPunch. If accuracy was really the dealbreaker, why didn't you choose the OHKO moves instead? They have only 30 Accuracy and won't even work if the opposing Pokémon's level is higher. Tbh, I can think of at least ten moves on the top of my head that are far worse than those three moves. No way those three are the worst moves no matter how garbage the accuracy is.

Mud slap is an upgraded sand attack, even if it's just chip damage on most mons. I don't get how you can have it on the list purely because of how OP accuracy drops can be

Inferno I have to agree with, but Zap Cannon can be used in a combo along with Lock-On, something Magnezone or Klinklang could do. As for Dynamic Punch, well, it can be okay for Pokémon with No Guard such as Machamp or Golurk.

I always considered Mud slap as a Sand attack that does very chip damage. If mud slap is a bad move, then I think Sand attack should also be a bad move as well.

comment 2: most of this list is due to low accuracy, there are very few moves like hone claws that we need for this purpose. Non competitive in game you can use x accuracy items to help you.
