Brian’s a worse character than Peter, at least Peter is and knows he’s Moronic, Brian is under the illusion that everyone in his proximity is moronic and challenges them prior to his ‘repent’
@@anonymouslucario285 Sometime around season 3 or 4 because I hated Brian forced political ideas down other people's throats. The Road to works, but even the Santa one tells me a lot about Brian's personality.
The seabreeze episode does show one of the dangerous parts of trying to write an animal character given human like personality traits: it creates this situation where they have to equally treat the character like they're a human and an animal, and they end up creating these episodes with horrible implications.
I still feel like it's not wrong for him to have done stuff with seabreeze since they're still the same species. Way more problematic for him getting with human characters to me since that's still beastiality.
@@Lando-kx6so It's more like the fact that he took her by force is what I'm saying. The fact he jumped her while she was on the race track made it seem like it wasn't consensual.
I was wondering this because I stopped watching the show years ago, but is Brian the only anthropomorphic animal in this universe? What even is the biology / ethics of it?
I really hate the newer seasons. Because they made Brian an absolute jerk. The early seasons he was never like that you was a caring person who cared about people around.
They did that with everyone (even tho Brian is probably the worst change) but its an everyone thing and I don't even think it's just a family guy issue it's this trend that ive been seeing that more "adult" animation can't have any sincere moments just gags like that one time brain and Peter thought cuz brain kisses Lois 2 seconds after they stop it goes back to gags
I mean, he was always a self insert for Seth, being an arrogant 'better than thou' jerk, but yes the outright hostility and outspoken shit takes have been noticeable since the early seasons.
Because Brian comes off as more intelligent than Peter and Lois, when he gives Meg awful advice, she takes it to heart. Like when he told her God isn't real because she's 'ugly', or when he encouraged her idea that she needs to be a 'lightning rod' for her family's dysfunction.

Was the argument not about her being put in an abusive family with the ugliness just being the cherry on top?
@ it was. Everyone just seems to miss that point. On a larger sense meg being ugly is a point. Even if a minor one. Why would god give her a trait knowing she'd be hurt by other for it. But the abuse was the bigger picture
@@1slayer959 Yeah! That was actually one of Brian's best moments in my opinion. Opening Meg's eyes to the miserable life she has and making a good point. God is good and all-knowing but God is also cruel. If God wanted to make it so people like Meg don't have to suffer the way she has, he could have. But he didn't.
@joshuamunn2410 one of his best moments because he told her the truth. He gave it to her straight and woke her up from her stupidity. Besides Meg is no angel. Don't forget she kidnapped Brian and tried to force herself on him. She tried to force herself on her crush Kent and then when he told her he was gay and liked Chris, she lied to Kent telling him that Chris wanted to hook up with him, and then proceeded to almost r**fie Chris so he couldn't resist. She almost got her brother r**** and almost tricked a poor innocent guy into r***** someone. Just could somehow live vicariously through Chris. Finally, she breastfed Suzie, got Bonnie arrested and threw herself in front of a car to purposefully cripple herself so she could steal Joe from Bonnie. Meg has been horribly abused and she deserves better but don't you dare act like she is without sin. No one on Family Guy is without sin.
If Brian were a smart atheist, "While 'I' personally don't believe in spirits or souls or anything akin to that, that doesn't mean 'you' shouldn't. And the life we're living now is something we should make into the BEST life."
If there's something wrong with dating someone close to but over 18 then shouldn't we just raise the age of consent? Wouldn't that make the age of consent wrong?
@@arthas640 the point is large age gaps are technically legal but wrong, for example, say someone who's 60 dates someone in their early 20s. Don't you think that'd be weird?
@@Rainok Weird or wrong? I do think it's kinda weird but not wrong, it's not like it's pedophilia. In many places you can marry before 18, sign up for tons of debt, and join the military and in large parts of the US you can be anywhere from 13-17 and by charged as an adult and spend your whole life in jail for a crime so dating isn't that wrong.
I'm just sad Brian just became another Quagmire with the ladies. He used to be an intelligent , philosophical type, but as Family Guy writers want to drag anyone down to their lowest, Brian became a pompous douche.
The whole dillan situation is the larger problem with the writing for brian. Brian WASN'T a bad father. He saved Dillans life and gave him a better future. That's more then Any of the characters have done for their children. Especially quagmire and his countless spawn. But because the status quo is king. It bevame a running joke that dillsn was never brought back so brian must not be seeing him again
Something that would be neat is what is the worst thing each of the main characters did in the first 3 seasons. Back when committing deplorable stuff on a daily basis wasn’t the norm.
I'd like a comparison of season 1-3, their best deed and worst deed For Peter, it's the episode if I'm dying I'm lying for bad deed, and lando griffin for good deed or taking a bullet for lois For Lois, probably the Christmas episode for bad, for good, probably being a good mother to her kids, a good friend to Brian and good wife to Peter Brian, seabreeze episode for worst deed, for best deed, his general kindness to everyone and guidance for Peter Stewie, worst deed is being old stewie, best deed is road to road island Idk for Chris and meg
male dogs do go through a heat but is usually triggered by a female dog in heat. I don't think males can actually resist a female in heat instinctively.
@@stevonwhite8933 Some animals are openly gay and have no interest in females. Some are into females and some just don't care who is their target (or even if they're the same species)
Between Roger (American Dad) and Brian (Family Guy), I enjoy watching Roger a lot more. Don't get me wrong, Roger is 100% worse on a moral level than Brian. Roger's list of crimes is...way too extensive. But why I can laugh at Roger and not Brian is because I at least EXPECT Roger to be the worst. They even have an episode explaining why he acts like the worst. It's more of a treat when Roger does do a good thing then. Brian though, you get the feeling he IS completely capable of being a great guy. Especially compared to Peter. But Brian just...never learns or is somehow still too dumb to avoid doing the most selfish and pretentious things. It's not funny, it's disappointing.
Roger is unapologetically bad which makes him more likable. When Brian does bad shit, it’s usually with zero self awareness, and he usually comes out thinking he’s still the good guy.
What Brian did with Stewie and the afterlife hits too personal for me. The amount of medication I'm on, the amount of severe panic attacks I've had for days on end, all because of my father trying to be the smart one when I was around 5. No matter what good evidence I hear now I struggle to take it in because he would never let me believe and took every chance possible to complain about people who did. When I watched that episode I really realised why I hate Brian.
No blind person is that unaware, believe you me, there is no way someone could tell me that I was in Paris if I'm still in the United States, there's also no way that I wouldn't be able to realize that I was dealing with an animal, and not a human being, Just slightly annoyed, blindness is not synonymous with stupidity or ignorance, and yes, if it's not glaringly obvious, I am an actual blind person.
hey I have some casual questions about blindness if you don’t mind! Id love to hear some of your experiences we’re you born with it or did it occur later in life? if it occurred later how did it effect you and what new skills did you get (if any) because of you becoming blind are you partially or fully blind? if partially are there any visual based tasks you can do without aid? was there ever a time someone didn’t realize you were blind off the bat and tried to show you something etc?
@@beeb2761I am not blind, though was impaired before surgery, I can say one thing. Most blind people are not fully blind just like most colorblind people don’t see in greyscale. Those extremes are fairly uncommon in nature.
It’s sad that the straight man of the family that was ironically the dog ended up being even worse than them solely because he is a smart character that purposely does a bunch of awful things. They even made an episode about him being a terrible father. Part of me wonders what would the show be like if they were brave enough to actually kill his character instead of just doing it to gain more attention considering a little time passed before he came back basically and giving liters no chance for Vinny to be a new main character.
@@ceresleepy1837 I don’t think they can make episodes that fast like South Park. Plus fan out cry is clearly the only reason they did it in the first place when you consider that they are just removing one of Seth McFarland’s roles while he continues to voice 3 other characters so there is no real world excuse for it nor is there any in universe reason for built up for it too happen. A ratings boost is honestly the only plausible reason if you think about it.
@foreverdreamwithinadream6871 "You don't have to agree on everything" if for trivial shit like 'what's your favorite movie?', not 'should gay people die or not?'. Beliefs, especially political beliefs, depend on morals. Rush Limbaugh was a raging racist, homophobe, and rape apologist. Dennis Prager is a weird man that makes RU-vid videos for kids about how slavery "wasn't that bad" and other conservative shit. Both are terrible people and anyone who's friends with them are also bad people because if they had a problem with the way they think, they wouldn't associate with them.
@foreverdreamwithinadream6871 Yeah, Not even close today.it was worse decades ago not now. When we were arguing over human rights not so long ago, there were definitely non negotiabilities in family and friendships.
Good countdown, there's even more worst things Brian as a character done. In Pal Stewie When Stewie befriends another child, Brian acted all petty and overly conceited because Stewie was hanging with someone his own age and had attempted to persuade him to cut off the relationship, even as far to hide an invitation addressed to him for the child's party and when Stewie found out about his exclusion, he went on a rampage to assult his new friend only for Brian to pull back and state that it was all his fault and Stewie claimed that Brian wasn't his friend....he's family (with the cheap sentimental garbage music throughout) and departed with no resolution.......which is stupid since Brian had zero problems in the past with Stewie 's playdates & other friends, I wonder why.....oh yeah, it's because of the obvious since Brian had horrid projections of things involving race that becomes very repeative.
(edit: Oh by this escalated, this wasn't me saying Brian is worst than Cartman overall. I mean summoning Cthulhu because your friends won't play with you isn't going to be able to be topped. The point is, in this situation I mentioned, Brian was more of a scumbag as a character. Cartman is worse as a person) Something I just realized is Brian is worse than *Cartman* Cartman (as obviously wrong as he is) had a reason to infect Kyle with AIDS, in order to teach him a lesson, knew there was a cure, and in the end he did cure Kyle (even if it was to just protect his stuff from Kyles rage). Even in the end, Cartman still gets punished by Kyle breaking his Xbox (implied). Brian not only infected Stewie for no reason other than "I was embarrassed", but Stewie has to suffer with this for the rest of his life, and Brian gives a half assed apology and a slap on the wrist.
It isn’t like Kyle murdered his family he simply laughed at him having aids where he deserved to be grounded not given a fatal disease. Sure Brian gave him herpes but cartman gave kyle hiv and this guy is acting like herpes are eternal torture when it just comes up when you’re stressed even the show said it. Cartman only cured it for the benefit of himself.
I get what you mean but, Carmen ounce destroyed all of humanity and teamed up with kathulo. Brian's bad but no one's gonna top Cartman in that category.
@@danielperez143 Cartman is a love to hate character, Brian has become a character you hate. Basically Brian and Cartman are a meta example of Jerks are worse than Villains
I'll be honest, one of the worst things Brian has ever done in my opinion is after Meg finally stands up for herself and tell off her family for abusing her all of her life, when she feels bad because the family was imploding on themselves Brian tells Meg she's 'a hero' for being willing to be an abuse victim for them. I'd like to say that he was still tripping on acid when he said that, but knowing how awful Brian can be, he may have been completely earnest.

Alcoholism is NOT a disease, it's a very serious condition that does need treat, support, and help. But saying it's a disease takes away the responsibility of the condition on the one suffering under it. Part of getting out of it is understanding the cause and person responsible which is always the addict themselves.
It is a neurological disorder involving dopamine receptors. That truth does not mean that the addict is not responsible for their actions. But people who are problem drinkers can easily substitute a different addiction, be it exercise, overeating, or even shopping.
The south park episode on Alcoholism and AA hits on a lot of the problems I have with AA. While it can really help people, I do agree with Brian that a lot of them just substitute drinking with AA and that's also not healthy. And the faith-based aspect of the 12 step program often turns people off when they need the help that AA can bring in at the start or can open the door to some of the people running these groups to not offer serious help to people like me who don't believe in a higher power. I know some groups have started to phase stuff out like the 12 step program because the language in it does cause issues as it can be interpreted by some that they don't have any power in being able to help themselves or that the burden of responsibility is not on them. One big complaint about AA from even Christian groups is that nothing in the 12 steps actually talks about real ways to deal with the problem outside of going to meetings
A lot of people who bring up "x character does worse stuff" seem to forget the main issue people take with Brian. It's not that he's the worst person, it's that he's one of the worst that also thinks they're the best. Everyone else knows they're awful and as a viewer, we can appreciate the honesty and enjoy a well made antagonist/bad person.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas writer got into a fight with a museum ran by Holcaust survivors for factual inaccuracies. Another book he put in a recipe for dye from the Zelda video game and thought it was real.
Well the cute one might not! The one that looks like Brian but his fur is the same color as Stewie's skin, Stewie said his name was Finn. He's adorable.
@@Mr_Robotts well maybe it was. But it wasn't all wrinkly like that one other puppy that was all mushy. But even if it was hairless it was still actually cute unlike the others.
I love how the episode the bird, reich basically explained that the reason Brian wants his ego to stroked is because he’s a dog human approval is all he lives for he even says, being called a good boy, is the best thing you can say to him
I truly miss the old Brain, honestly a part of me wishes the real Brain is still in Hollywood filming s*** and the one we see is an imposter that took his place. Unfortunately this is what he became.
So when it comes to dogs and heat, only the girls go into heat, but when a boy dog smells it he becomes like entranced and will absolutely lose their mind. So tbh being mad at him about Seabreeze wasn't fair at all. Carter should take responsibility for not getting her fixed.
@@Dashiell777 True, but Brian is among the worst of them. Sadly he used to be one of the best. All of them have fallen, though in my opinion it was just a cop out to bring him back after killing him off.

With the complete destruction of his character in the revival and dark era, it's pretty fitting that he's essentially the new punching bag in the newer seasons.
It's ashame, because Brian was the best character in the early seasons. (Which I consider season 1 -6). You could see that Seth basically made Brian the animated version of himself (which is why he's the only character he doesn't change his voice for). He's just became so arrogant and up himself. Quagmire said it best in that iconic rant he had
Brian dating human women should've been an honorable mention because of our laws against relationships with non-human beings (animals, aliens, monsters, robots).
I really gotta say, the 'alchoholic' discussion is coming to a head, the psycho analyzing of 'this character is or isnt an alchoholic despite the shows clear statement they are' is getting very annoying. The analysis and mis-defining of what it means to be an alchoholic is getting kind of old, and brians both binge drinking + constantly sipping booze at various unremarkable points (he has that iconic flask after all), it shows he has alchoholic tendencies / borderline alchoholism. And thats just with this specific media, not other shows you cover. Between this and some of the community posts lately, as someone whos struggled with it myself, annoyed and may not continue watching with recent events. This is just getting to be quite a bit much dismissal and excusing of alchoholism in media, with characters who specifically have alchoholic tendencies. Just hope this doesnt continue, it may just be media, but viewers take your analysis more seriously.
I was going to comment something similar but not necessarily about the cc and her sort of brushing it off... She's allowed her opinions on the subject... However I am also genuinely disgusted with the way alcoholism and addiction are portrayed on certain shows and the media in general. For example the South Park episode about Randy having to go to AA (when I don't actually think his character is an alcoholic while I completely agree with you that Brian is much more likey to be one) and how they characterized AA as a cult and kept doubling down that alcoholism isn't a disease. Well according to scientific research and medical professionals it absolutely IS and to continue to downplay the significance is offensive and borderline dangerous. I'm a recovering alcoholic and addict with 9ys sober... After 25+ of using and I lost my younger brother and father to alcoholism! Not drunk driving or anything... alcohol itself literally caused them to die... My dad at 53 and my brother at 39. This is a very real disease and a very real issue and people really must take it seriously. Thanks for your comment... It gave me the courage to share mine and I appreciate someone else out there who feels as strongly as I do. ❤❤❤
@@pettykittyfam the media's blatant dismissal of alchoholism is definetly a problem, and agreed there. as a CC myself I try not to fault individual creators, but on watching this Live it stood out amongst prior posts. I am definetly annoyed with Kitty's way of adressing these issue, as its continous dismissal of clearly stated issues, but it adds up to be a problem over time. Justifying alchoholics as 'not alchoholics but people who drink a bit too much' repeatedly, plus the alchohol based community posts, IS an issue that cant just be written off, imo. She doesnt need like an apology or adress, but I just hope she actually reads and may consider changing her approach on Substance abuse.
Question. In the earlier seasons, didn't Lois say Brian was at least fifty (in dog years)? I cant remember the exact episode title but it involved Peter and his friends acting like the show Jack*ss. If that's the case then the age gap between him and Reta wasn't that bad. Brian could've honestly been happyily married and away from Peter's antics if it weren't for the writers making Reta seem older than what she was towards the end of the episode
We cannot forget that brian has obviously been creeping on women most of the times, especially hitting on lois. He says peter repays her with selfishness and neglected. But brian is the one who does almost the opposite.. and 4:22 when he says stuff like this, that doesn't make any sense
Underrated moment: destroying Rupert while drunk and then blaming Stewie for daring to get mad at him over it. Hating a baby for ruining a beloved toy of his while he was drunk. What the frick.
Since the fans won't let Brian be killed off, the writers, perhaps with the blessings of Seth, now have 'killed his character'. The once thought of 'voice of reason' has transformed into 'Quagmire'.
Stewie felt sad brainwashed leaving so he impregnated himself with Brian’s dna The worst part is that they took pictures with Stewie being pregnant The writers. Really needed Jesus. A therapist and their mother. Sadky they weren’t there to stop em
As Brit I can confirm he also sometimes move across the street or around the corner when we move out. Or our parents do and we buy the family house off of them.
If you don't believe in an afterlife, I think it's OK to tell your kids that. Just tell them it's something you don't know. I haven't seen much of family guy, but from what I know, Brian seems to be a good example of a terrible atheist. As in a person who uses their atheist as a weapon to raise themselves up, rather than actually wanting to help.
The only episode about Brian is when he fought Peter because he thought Lois was too good for him. I never thought Brian was likeable in the early seasons because he was "Mr know it all" and thought he was better than everybody else, I like him better as a pretentious fraud in these newer seasons.
19:35 That makes so much sense with the boy in the striped pajamas 😅. There is so much wrong with that book, a child of an SS soldier who doesnt understand whats going on? They taught their children the same hatred at the time, practically every kid was enrolled in hitler youth. Theres naive and then there is straight up misinformation :/
He also put a recipe in a different book that he accidentally ripped of from Zelda Breadth of the Wild. I too thought it was funny she used his book as an example.
Why Disrespectful ? Personally I think the characters in live action Nick Sitcoms are more disrespectful as compare Sam from Icarly and Piper from Henry Danger to Shelby from Best friends Whenever and Maya from Girl Meets World and they is a difference
Many people are not going to like this but I don't care about that at this point. I like Vinny way more than Brian. I think he was a better dog and a better friend to Stewie
Male dogs DO NOT in fact go through heat. That said, when a female is in heat, a male can track them down from literally miles away on smell alone and will go to extraordinary lengths to mate. A male who has not mated in some time will become increasingly desperate, so that could explain some of Brian’s behavior. Unneutered males tend to have a very high drive, which is one of the reasons people absolutely MUST spay and neuter, especially Brian, who should have been neutered years ago.
For number 1: They also could have had him not know you could transfer herpes that way. I mean I don't think you actually can so it wouldn't have been a stretch.
So, tbh, I’m kinda confused on the first entry, like why it’s one of the worst things he’s done. I kinda always saw it as Brian finally giving in to his animal instincts and thought it was kinda sweet they ran away to be together. Like, was it weird, yeah (also nice cut to Stewie lol) but I wouldn’t say it was a bad thing, but I could be missing a fuckton of context too since I haven’t seen the episode in yeeaarrs
@@KvngLeroy1 I’m confused on how that is considered rape given the rest of the story given. It didn’t sound like rape but just dogs being dogs and it’s kinda a reach to call that rape
I still can't understand why people still watch Family Guy nowadays. The writing is straight up garbage. What's worse is that I had to deal with rapid nutbar fanboys that defends it for some damn reason. If they're like that, then they deserve the garbage show.
To be fair the incident with sea breeze and others is the fault of his owners. He should’ve been fixed. Brian is a dog after all. lol. It is an instinctual reaction. However, I appreciate you stating why it was added. I do agree with that logic.
