For me the scariest is Salem's lot 1979 when that guy is in jail and the creepy vampire just jumps in your face in a close up. No music cues to warn you.
Correction on the Alien movie. The cast did not know about the chest bursting open. The director wanted it to be a surprise and get a real reaction from the cast. This is what the director said his self in an interview.
i really don't seem to understand how this youtube channel has been around for almost a decade and still hasn't done proper research. everyone who's even seen snippets of the film in passing knows that that entire scene was shot without the crew's knowledge. sigourney weaver did an interview with E! entertainment forever ago about it and said it was still one of the scariest things she has ever witnessed as an actress on set. i've seen that move a million times almost, and even i get a little freaked out by it every now and then. it isn't that hard to look up an interview about this film. hell, they've had so many collabs with big brands like fortnite and alien vs predator, it's not hard to find something related to that.
I nominate 2...the Room 237 scene in The Shining (1980), and the moment in When A Stranger Calls (1979) when the police officer on the phone told the babysitter "we've traced the calls. They're coming from INSIDE the house". I was home alone at 11 years old and it was dark outside. I've never been that frightened in my life and I'm 54 years old.
I’ve only seen The Hitcher, What Lies Beneath, Hellraiser, 28 Weeks Later, Frailty, Annihilation, A Quiet Place, Nosferatu, The Lighthhouse, Sinister, Ju-On: The Grudge, 28 Days Later, Signs, Jacob’s Ladder, Audition, Zodiac, Last House On The Left, Candyman, The Invisible Man, The Others, The Sixth Sense, Get Out, Pet Sematary, Paranormal Activity, The Babadook, Misery, Friday The 13th, Cloverfield, The Fly, The Orphanage, The Ring, Drag Me To Hell, It Follows, Se7en,The Wicker Man, It, Repulsion, The Silence Of The Lambs, The Conjuring, Saw, Hereditary, Eraserhead, The Descent, Rosemary's Baby, An American Werewolf In London, The Omen, Carrie, Mulholland Drive, Scream, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Jaws, Halloween, The Evil Dead, Poltergeist, Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Thing, The Blair Witch Project, The Shining, Alien and The Exorcist.
bless you guys for putting the bedroom scene from terrifier 2. if i were to make a list based on just how unsettled i was by a scene that may be top three.
170: Speaking of horror movies, I had fun at this museum with my mom and cousin. I forgot what the place was called. One of the areas is the horror section and I thought it was pretty cool
169: My dad isn’t 100% into horror movies cause it scared him since childhood. Years Later, as an adult, I was surprised he saw The Pope’s Exorcist by himself
#98 Just my opinion, but this one should be much higher... Top 30 I should think. I mean, this is one of the most unexpected, well shot "fast zombie" attacks ever filmed Also, the acting is spectacular. Everyone in this scene (non-zombies) looks genuinely terrified, as if the notion of escaping this zombie horde has now become an impossible task... And they just now realize this.
One thing that stands out about "Texas Chainsaw" is that ending happens in broad daylight. They don't hide the scary stuff, and the scares are still working.
166: Do You Like Scary Movies? Yes and no. I’ve made regrets watching bad ones and good ones that I admit are great but I’m not going to mention the whole entire list. I’m forever a Scream fan and that’s it
Not mentioned: Halloween II. Security guard searching the grounds for an intruder. Goes over to a trash dumpster. Cat leaps out at him. Memorable for me because I was in a dark theater looking for my dad. He jumped and screamed and I found him.
Say his name while looking in a mirror in the original _Candyman_ from 1992 and the remake that came out a few years ago, and it’s all downhill from there. That’s why I’ve never tried summoning the supposed Bloody Mary. The stars forbid finding out what will happen if I do.
The House on Haunted Hill scene always made me laugh, it always reminded me of Eric Idle. Looking at it now it's like if Eric Idle and Lin Shaye had a baby. Tell me I'm wrong? 😂
Candyman’s a weird horror movie in that unlike most horror movies where you’re screaming at the characters to run away, to not go into the haunted house, to not mess with the so called cursed or haunted thing….All you have to scream at the characters is just DON’T SAY HIS NAME FIVE TIMES! Literally that’s it! You can say it once, twice, three times even four times…..JUST DON’T SAY IT FIVE TIMES! That’s it! Honestly if Candyman kills you it’s on your own head dude. All you had to do was NOT SAY HIS NAME FIVE TIMES!
The last one is correct. But number two is the head in Jaws. Number three is Omen 2, when his brother realised he is the anti christ after killing the guy in the Ice…
Well for your information! I believe I should say all of the horror movie scenes continued to haunt my nightmares, because they are so disturbing and creepy as well as scary if you know what I'm saying by the way.
The seance scene in "The Changeling". The woman's voice changes to a demon voice in "The Amityville Horror". For me, jump scares are cheap and gore is not scary, just gross. I much prefer a psychological scare that builds and builds and stays with you long after it's finished.
Before I clicked on the video I knew the #1 spot would be the exorcist head spin. I gotta say, just because it’s classic doesn’t mean it’s always going to be the best. Same with psycho, it’s timed out by now, sorry. How is the ending of the conjuring not listed here, let alone a top 10? Easily more nightmare-inducing than the thing scene
Zelda from Pet Sematary should’ve been higher on the list. Scared me for years. The look and the voice. Would have to plug my ears and close my eyes for a long time while watching it. Plus not having Kane from Poltergeist 2 is just wrong. Him and Zelda were the worst.
I have watched thousands of horror movies, don't scare easily and i can say that Martyrs definitely messed me up, it is so messed up especially if u are female watching it, i wouldn't recommend.
I am extremely disappointed in this list. No George Romero?!?! Night of the Living Dead, Creepshow, hello? No Universal Horror? Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man?? We needed more Stephen King, too!
The Ring is the same thing as Candyman. Seriously…ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS NOT WATCH THE STUPID TAPE! If you find the tape BURN IT! That way no one else has to see it. But seriously just don’t watch the stupid thing! That’s it! Yay you get to live!
Tbh I think the Gas Station scene is lame and generic in The Hitcher, a scarier scene is when John Ryder is in the back seat of a family car with a little girl and then the car is in a ditch a little further on and we just see Jim's reaction. Making you use your imagination and that shit messed me up as a kid.
imagine azahtoth from chtullu mythos or even chinese branch scarlet demon will be in a movie scene it will be even 500 times more scarier than all the movies you mentioned in the list that people will stop watching it
What I hate about this list is these goofy old black and white horror movies, with bad acting and silly affects. The list is SCARIEST movie scenes not most important or influential. If you take nostalgia or the history out of it and had people actually compare these scenes strictly on how scary the scenes are. Those old crappy movies would get zero votes
