These rankings are subjective. Any of the top 25 are outstanding. Yes, this list has the Ivy League 8 all in the top 12. Regardless of education quality, I would never have chosen Columbia, unless you want to become a Marxist dictator. Private schools are beyond the reach of many families price-wise, so you have to then focus on the best university in your state. I wanted to go to Dartmouth, but chose U of Michigan instead, as I did not want a mountain of debt. I did not see any school getting a top 40 ranking that surprised me, but some of the order on this list, did surprise me - just based on other rankings and commentary I have seen. MIT & Caltech are very good, but limited in programs offered for the majority. Princeton, Harvard and Yale are always ballyhooed, but I thought Stanford was actually the best amongst them all, considering the variety and quality of programs. I never heard USC mentioned among the elite universities. Its campus is in a very rough area of LA. Unless one actually went to a school, it is hard to evaluate, as the rankings include things that might not be important - like # of PhDs, size of research library, number of famous graduates, etc. A good education - more importantly, a happy, successful life - can be garnered at ANY university/college - or by NO college at all!
And the tuition fee, distance from your place of living, facilities offered, what the chances of getting employed after completion of the programme. Some universities have such advantages whereby they have colaboration with corporate companies and arrange for student job interviews for job placement or internship in the their final year or even after graduation. It would be nice, if can get an opportunity to be a lecturer in the same university after completing our post graduate studies.
@@yuhoseok47 The U.S. News and World Report Rankings are the only ones that put Cal that low. USNWR - same publication - then ranks Cal as the 4th ranked university in the WORLD. WTF? USNWR's college rankings are a joke, only surpassed by whomever did the rankings for this trash vid.
spinningorb Nope. The world ranking is based on research outputs, which is a good indication for graduate students but not undergraduate students. If you are an undergrad, you should look at the US college ranking not the world ranking. Berkeley has been ranked around 20th over a decade. They recently got ranked two steps down due to misreporting, but still it seems pretty standard.
@@yuhoseok47 USNWR is constantly criticized for its methodology, and its manipulation of same. When they first started ranking colleges 35 years ago, Cal was ranked No. 5. Times Higher Education 2019 reputation rankings (rep for teaching and research) list Cal is No. 6 globally. Please stop.
spinningorb Stop what? Lmfao. Berkeley is a public school. Compared to those private IVYs, they do accept many unqualified applicants and so many applicants from community college due to fundings from the governments. University of Michigan was ranked 10th back in 80s, because the method was so different. Do you really think Brown/Dartmouth/Northwestern are behind Berkeley & UCLA and even UCSD? They put public school so high in the world ranking system, because public schools are most likely research based institutes where so many opportunities available for graduate students. Undergrad at these public schools really depends on ability of students. Do you think Berkeley is better than UMichigan, UVA, and UIUC? No! Berkeley already has taken so many advantages of its location, California. Check the applicants’ stats of those universities. They are all on a par with Berkeley. 20th for Berkeley is a perfectly understandable spot.
0:59. CU Boulder is a very underrated school. It had a bad reputation party school reputation in the past, but now it is not much of a party school anymore. Sadly the reputation stuck. It has many great engineering, business, and film programs. Also it has one of the top aerospace engineering in the country. In my opinion one of the most underrated schools. I would at least make it top 50 on the list. At Least.
Nevermind, it all became clear. Check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZyyDoK3nyUE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LdH1hSWGFGU.html
Why would they not put them above Berkeley. UVA's business programs are one of the best in the world and Georgetown's foreign affairs program is probably the best in the world.
Bilal R21 Berkeley’s Haas Business School is ranked higher than UVA’s. It also has the top economics program and well known for modern economics theories. Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry? Same tier with MIT and Stanford, which are way higher than Emory and Georgetown and UVA. I haven’t looked deeper into the humanities but for the hard sciences, math, computer science, and engineering, Berkeley blows the other three out of the water.
@@kyan2000 I got into Columbia which was my first choice if I got into any American universities. However, it was too expensive, I couldn't afford it. So I stuck with my UK choices and Im studying at UCL now. Best option. Its top 3 globally in architecture and I get to move back to London where my family is.
@@caseydouglas3671 Some of the world's best seismologists and literal rocket scientists are educated , teach and are employed at CalTech and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Aka JPL) . Even though the list didn't have my Alma Mater, Loyola Marymount University, it did have our cross town rival, Pepperdine which is in Malibu. Fun fact , Tia and Tamera Mowery from the 90s sitcom "Sister Sister" went to Pepperdine. The Cal Polytechnic campuses in San Luis Obispo and Pomona are two excellent schools also. They both have top notch engineering programs and both campuses partner to build a float for the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena every New Year's and the float always wins some sort of award.
Gasson Hall at Boston College shown twice. Once for Pitt at 5:18 and again at 11:36 for BC. Same thing done for one of the Quads at Washington University, which was shown as George Washington.

12:50 here! I think we’re higher now tho✌🏼fight on
Ask yourselves if the grads you know look back fondly on their years at X University. I've met a lot of people from top schools and there's one school where I've never a grad who grew sentimental about the place.
Yoda Dartmouth is a liberal arts college and isn’t technically a university so I don’t think that’s it. I think it was just the list makers pure negligence toward some bad ass schools
Crazy that #3 and # 13 (uchicago and northwestern) are in the same city along with #100 Loyola. Chicago’s a great city. I attend #47 also in Illinois (uiuc)
Chicago also is home to my alma mater, Illinois Institute of Technology, 3300 S. Federal - Wonder why it didn't make the list - maybe because it was known as a "Streetcar school" when I went there in the early 50s. Mies Van Der Rohe was head of the school of design at that time.
It was a lot of read. Was "Western Michigan University" of Kalamazoo and "Michigan Tech. University," both academically sound and ranked doctoral research universities on your list?

This list compares fairly closely with the US News and World Report 100 Universities, although I am surprised to see UCLA ranked higher than U VA and U Michigan. A word of warning if you or your child are interested in applying to any of the top 30 schools from someone who has just been through the process. Regardless of what they post as their range of acceptable SAT scores, if you are not in the top 4% of highschool seniors nationally or a blue chip athlete, you won't get accepted. Basically, you need a SAT score above 1400, better than a 4.0 GPA, at least 4 AP classes with A's and be a proven leader like student council president, then maybe you will be accepted.
JLR VA you didn’t know about the lawsuit filed by Asian Americans association against several Ivy League universities? The universities were discriminating the Asians and choose Hispanics and blacks instead, even though the Asians were more qualified in terms of grades, classes they took, SAT, literally everything. A well known research (just google it) found whites have to have high grades to make it to Ivy League while Asians have to have nearly perfect SAT to qualified for Ivy League while Hispanics, black and other minorities can have several hundred points lower to qualified. So when you were talking about SAT and grades, whites and Asians were discriminated.
@@wuxiaaddict Yes I did see that in the news. Sorry to reply to your comment so late. Diversity as policy was well intended but as often happens, unintended consequences result.
JLR VA not true, I got accepted to a few in the top 30 posted here and I don’t fit half of that criteria. It varies per school and ofc essays are important
Pretty bad rankings. Must be from the 90’s or something. Northeastern, UT Austin, and Michigan should be ranked higher. Some of the top 50 should be further back. MIT should be higher. Stanford should be higher. Many more that I would change.
Como vas a poner a él MIT tan bajo, y a Harvard de segundo? Esas 2 deberían estar en los 2 primero puestos, MIT de segundo y Harvard de primero, o al revés

Perk of living in California: there's a bunch of amazing public Universities, including the top 2, that you have a better chance of getting into and you get more financial aid. Also, so many great Universities in the Boston area holy shit
You had UCSD ranked several spots behind UC Davis and UC Irvine... Look at the national rankings from college reports and several other top ranking publications. UCSD is well ahead of them and lower acceptance rate. UT Austin and Michigan should be at least 10 spots ahead as well. I'm just curious if you just created this ranking yourself or if it's from a publication. So many top schools were poorly ranked, while others obviously were ranked far ahead of what is reality for them.
In my case, Princeton, UConn, Yale, Harvard, and Berkeley are the best schools (saying this coming from ct :) ) but rlly UConn and Yale are one of the best.
A very useful information. The universities give top most priorities to quality education and research. I very much appreciate the culture of top ranked universities.
The musical selections are not appropriate for this video about *American* Colleges and Universities. Liszt and Wagner had little if anything to do with this country. Can't you find more music by American composers -- perhaps Copland, Gershwin, Ives, etc.? There's a lot from which to choose . . .
