I was the drumset player for the Hurricanes. I loved every moment of it. I thought my first year of drum corps would be difficult, but I was completely wrong. It was the best summer I had! I’m definitely coming back next year. Watching you at the I&E’s was astounding. Your solos were top-tier!
I marched my first year of drum corps this past season with the cabs! One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had, truly life changing. Look mom! I’m on EMCProductions!
This was a great year for all DCA Corps! Coming back after an extensive time off (no 2020, virtual 2021), all groups did fantastic! Finals night "retreat" was a cool experience, which included each group being proud of each other, and I definitely felt that energy! Hell, you could feel it early season too, when we all started seeing each other for the first time in a while! I chuckled at the title, considering there were only 12 competing corps this year, so thanks for the laugh!
I'm really glad you enjoyed our hornline's sound at Hurricanes! We worked really hard on sound production all season- truthfully we'd been marching holes in our already small hornline up until the week before finals and then finals came and two of our baritones had Covid :( I was extremely proud of this group. They were a pleasure to work with and I hope every single one who can return comes back for 2023. I've never had so much fun being involved with a drum corps as I did this season. ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
Center Marimba for White Sabers here, just wanted to give a shoutout to our entire percussion section and how much adversity we all overcame this year. We started the season with 2 basses, 2 marimbas, 4 snares, and 1 tenor... so a bit rough. Through many months we ended with a full drumline (One of our tenor players joined right at the end!), and a semi full front ensemble. Our front tech actually had to play synth because we could not get someone. It really felt like every weekend there was something to overcome, and every weekend we figured it out and pushed through. I could not ask for a better group to perform with, every person put in their weight and supported each other. When the end of the season was arriving, and we thought we were done with the adversity, we were not! During our semifinals performance, in the middle of segment 4, my lung spontaneously collapsed (Pneumothorax). Luckily, the adrenaline was able to push me through the rest of that show and I made it off the field. I assumed it was heart pain, and did not go into the ER until finals morning. Because of this, I was not able to perform at finals night. But the entire percussion section pushed through this and was able to get a Box5 score in percussion, and they could not deserve it more. I was in post-surgery during their finals run, and listened to scores on the phone, but I do not regret a thing from this season. Special shout-out to my fellow marimba, Sabrina, who took over my responsibilities in the show for finals night. She did an amazing job at keeping the front together for that run and I am very proud of her and the entire percussion section. MYNWA
@@theclimbingchef my recovery is almost done, thank you! And I thought it was very fitting for my lung to collapse because I overperformed a Metallica drum corps show!
@@williamsmall808 savage!!! Ya, just took an advanced first aid class and found out that tall young men are susceptible to pneumothoraxes. So I found this intriguing to see your post. Keep rocking!!!
Finally got to march my first year of drum corps with the hurricanes (was the trombone soloist!). The shows at finals were soooo good. It was also cool seeing your drum solos at I&E!
Let’s go, I got two friends in the buccs this season, I’m so proud lol. If don’t decide to enlist into the military this summer I’m definitely joining the bucs.
I marched DCA in 2017 with a corps from the UK, The Kidsgrove Scouts. The best bit of my 2.5 week tour was how we - together with The Cabollero's - threw the sickest after party in the hotel after finals. Went from convention room to convention room as we kept being kicked out. We ended off with a few british guys dancing the Irish River dance in the lobby of the hotel. What a night!!
I am an old 70's era Caballero. I love when international corps are influenced by traditional US corps. The Yokohama Inspires were a Japanese version of Hawthorne and Kidgrove went with that Madison Scouts look and vibe.
I got to see Atlanta CV perform while our guard was at warmup during the Southeastern championships in Atlanta. The energy was amazing and they did so well 👏🏾
Bro I don’t think you’ll see this but your probably my main Inspiration for wanting to own my own marching quint and I’m determined. So thanks for inspiring me Eric. Sincerely a fan
i appreciate the clip of white sabers, i’ve been trying to find a good one (that i don’t have to find on flomarching) simply because i’m marching with them as of tomorrow!
I was the opening dance soloist for the skyliners this year! It was such an interesting experience since it was my first time in drum corps as opposed to coming from doing BOA and ISSMA competition. What a year!
The CT proposal was real! My friend Griffin (Keldmore) was in CT this year and that proposal was NOT planned. Everyone was surprised and it was all a really lovely thing.
The. Proposal. Was actually written into the show just a few weeks before finals. But was a secret from most of the corps so it was and wasn’t a surprise
I'm an 18 year old in florida and thinking of auditioning there in a year or two.(front ensemble) Just trying to figure out logistics. Were there alot of fl people when you marched?
@@SWilla00946 Corey was from Orlando, he drove like 10 hours up and back every weekend. We had a couple others from North Florida though. I personally drove from Montgomery Alabama. It's worth a 2-3 hour drive imo.
@@SWilla00946 Hey Sam! There was me in Orlando, and a guy named Matt who was in Gainesville. As far as riding together, I drove my self to and from every weekend, because I was on a different schedule that wouldn’t allow me to catch a ride up, but the members are very helpful and willing to give rides. I was a complete stranger to the Atlanta area and marching drum corps, but I was offered a place to stay every weekend without any hesitation from the snare section leader, and his fiancé in the color guard. Members go above and beyond. The drive is about 7 hrs, but depending on traffic , it could 9-10 hr. Its long, but it was a fairly easy drive though, I took 75 all the way up. The thing I love about DCA is that you have time, there is no rush due to a fear of aging out, and you will have to time to continue your daily life. I promise, it will be one of the best decisions you’ll make when you pull the trigger and decide to go out. Oh yeah, and the front ensemble is killer.
Yooo I was the drum set player for Atlanta CV it was truly a great season and I might do it again but for now I’m focused on trying out for AQ. Also fun fact most of our front ensemble were highschoolers
For the reading buccaneers my dad was the one to help arrange the show since he is a staff member there. I’ve grown up with that corp my whole life and I can’t wait for the day I get to join it. ONLY 2 MORE SUMMERS AWAY THEN I CAN!
I'm a Cincinnati Tradition alumni and can confirm the proposal was 100% real. I also proposed to my partner (one of our drum majors then) right after we won Class A in 2016. I guess I kinda set that precident lol
Video 4 of commenting for a collab between Steven Sassafrass VI and Clarence Boudreaux. I really wanted to join the Cabs, but I prefer the music of the alumni Cabs more than the new ones.
I'm pretty far removed from the activity but I definitely appreciate you showing love to the smaller groups in the beginning! Also.... The hurcs bass tap...
Didn't make bush this year, but I'm looking forward to trying again, that was a great show and it seems great for people like me who can't afford DCI (and isn't good enough for it anyway)
Fun fact! Our high school this year is using CT’s prop because we lent them our trailer, and the prop is really cool and nice to have! I’ve only fallen off it once!
Has anyone marched in DCA and came from out of state before? I'm interested in auditioning for next year for guard. I haven't marched since HS, but i have spun my flag.
If you are talking about the bass tap, I marched in other corps but hearing that tap was one of my favorite parts of the season! So nostalgic to hear that every year.
Whats up EMC! I love your videos and your videos are the reason I even started getting into marching more. I even recently saved up and bought a brand new snare drum but sadly a house fire had runied that, do you have any suggestions where to buy cheap/used marching snares?
I'm so happy to see all these hard working groups back on the field! However, it is unfortunate that it doesn't count as a "real" DCA season, due to the absence of the traditional Hurricane's bass tap.
Just so you know, the entire corps was losing it after our show when we saw you wearing a cincinnati tradition hoodie. That meant more than you ever know. (BTW the proposal was real)
@@1johncabs Awesome! I marched Kilts 2013-17 DCA, much respect to Cabs, wish I was around in the original Garfield days the Cadets battery was always a huge inspiration
I marched Fusion this year and I'm a sophomore in High School. It was amazing. You can definitely do it - the practice schedule is exclusively weekends and the season doesn't really ramp up until school ends. Though Fusion was pretty young (majority people under 21) this year, so I don't know what the environment's like in places with older people. Also, obviously, you should take money and skill into account when deciding when/where to march
I wish. I never did DCI, but I've been getting back in marching percussion (bought a snare and tenors) and would love to do something that's not like an alumni band.
There is a west coast mini-corps still. Sacremento Freelancers. The west coast formula is to rehearse and compete locally, then travel out west and rent equipment from a DCI corps for the weekend so overall travel and logistics costs are lower.
I was here and the dude who was the drumline instructor for the hurricanes was literally crying infront of me at the end and kept screaming it was so crazy but at the same time really empowering HAHA
Sooo the Govenaires show actually came true. Not 1, but BOTH buses broke down on their way from MN. As of writing this comment, 1 of them is still stranded in Madison WI
So real question, I’m thinking about starting a DCA core, but I’m coming off a 12 year hiatus and have a lot of rust to work off. How terrible of an idea is this….
Not terrible in the least bit. I marched Quads for CV in '21 with only high school experience on Snare & Bass...I graduated HS in 2000. You can do it, easily
