2 years ago I was all about VW. I used to drive a company owned Polo and wanted to buy a brand new Polo Mk6 myself when it came out. Turned out VW didn't want to make money because they refused to sell me that car (apparently I didn't have enough income to afford the loan i had to take on that car) So I went to Toyota for a Yaris instead. Not my first choice at the time, but I needed a car because that company car had to be returned and I always have bad luck with second hand cars. Toyota did want to lease me that car (lease not buy because as mentioned it wasn't my first choice and I could return the car after a year without a fine if i wanted) Over the next two years I fell in love with Toyota. And just last moth I returned that Yaris after 50K km of loyal service and bought myself a shiny new Corolla!

Toyota are not regarded for "grounbreaking" technology. That would be more Nissan over the last 40 years. In fact Toyota vehicles are often way behind the competition in features and technology.

My wife and I have purchased 5 new Mazdas over the years. We put about 200k on them with minimal mechanical issues and then buy a new one.

Mazda are probably the best japanese cars. Design and quality wise. Also very innovative. Only issue is they ate more expensive and also parts are more expensive. On the other hand... Honda is also now getting on the costly side and costly parts but still their sales are better
