I think this graph combined the Union and Confederate Army sizes during the American Civil War period. If split in two the Union would get about 2/3 with the remaining 1/3 going to the Confederate Army. They'd both still show up on this graph as among the world's largest army for a short time.

By the numbers you can tell when wars, especially major wars were occurring, and oddly if these are accurate numbers, the numbers started increasing for some countries as if they expected a war was going to occur in the future

A large army is necessary for holding land for civilization, but you need good leadership, the economy, technology and manufacturing power behind it to win wars.

India has biggest standing army including 2.1 million reserved force And also indian army is better trained especially for Himalayas. This is my opinion believe it or not but reality will not change.

This is a good example of how numbers are not the determinant factor of military power. The list at the end is significantly different than the absolute rankings.

The year I left the British army it dropped off the graph. I didn't realise I'd made such a big impact.

Notice how during times of War, the United States army suddenly surged to the top or near the top? A little known fact. A lot of the reason why the French and British agreed to the November 1918 Armistice with Germany instead of going all the way to Berlin because they didn't want a massive American army in Europe. They ended up with just that after World War 2. Had WW1 lasted another year, the United States would've had the largest army on Earth.
