Planescape is just off the charts. I remember on my 2nd completion going for combat and being blown away by the effects (and the time that would have gone into them back then) that you would never even see if you were going for the "best" ending.
I played it when it come out for about 30 minutes and put it to rest, never been much of a reader, just wanted something with more action and less intellect. About 2 years later which still is ages ago I took it up, was bored and back then I didn´t have the internet. To this day it´s the only game where I can actually remember all the names of those who followed me in the party .... and I remember Morte dying over and over, never ditched him.
I remember on my second playthrough, I made such an OP build, that I almost never cared about combat and just enjoyed the story. The game has so much for you to explore, that's it's definety worth replaying. But hell yeah, it took a lot of time to complete.
Damn, at first I loved that you went straight to the point, no intro or anything. The ad was short and actually fun to watch, with your editing and same goes for the rest of the video. I didn't find myself skipping to the next game, thanks to your commentary. Even when the game you talked about either didn't interest me or I already played it. Amazing work, man!
@@Odyssey636 you should check it out. It definitely has a lot of depth. One of the best RPG's I've played. Available on pretty much everything as well. Although the Switch version doesn't run the best.
I completed it 3 times, and enjoyed the Anarchist path the most. The game has potential for replayability, apart from an interesting combat system, great lore and developed characters. And damn, I like it's magic system so much!
I'm playing it right now and honestly, it has one of the most frustrating, shallow and tedious storys i ever read in an rpg. And that's saying about a game that's 80%+ reading. I'm watching this vid rn exactly bc i can't stand this game anymore
Dungeon of Naheulbeuk ("le donjon de Naheulbeuk" in french) is actually an audio saga (in french). The story is quite funny from what I remember but I guess some of the jokes and word play don't have exact equivalents in English.
I’ve been playing these type games for as long as they’ve existed! And they are by far my favourite type of games! However I’m beginning to wish more of them were fully voiced, and narrated! I feel like this is the next step in their evolution! And it would be very welcome!
That only translate to less dialogue options, complexity and roleplaying. All franchises that used to be text driven like the elder scrolls of fallout became really poor in this aspect compared to any of their other previous games. I wish just the opposite tbh
@@Alfonso-es6ze if that was the result I’d agree completely! But I’m hoping nothing changes, just voice acting added! Something along the lines of Disco Elysium! Partial voice acting in main quests and full Narration!
@@7dayspking resoucers are limited, i highly prefer those resources are used in more writing rather than voice acting. I didnt discover crpgs until 2014, and i found that the main thing that made them stand out from other rpgs was the writting and text driven mechanics that comes with no having voice acting beside maybe a few lines.
Wartales is 100% worth it. I've spent way too many hours on this game already, and intend to spend way too many more. It's still technically early access, but they have a published roadmap for improvements and game features that they've so far held to pretty well. When I hopped in, there were only 3 regions... now there are a couple more, plus several new gamewide mechanics, higher level caps, more aesthetic choices for your characters, and so on. Because it's early access, some of the systems don't seem to work as intended (captured prisoners, for instance, are supposed to eventually warm up to your company and join if you treat them well... instead, they seem to constantly try to escape and never actually want to join even weeks after capture). But few bugs seem to make it past the next major update, so I feel pretty confident those others will be fixed as well.
i like wartales and had a lot of fun with it, but how the heck is it on this list, it's like saying warband or even battle bothers has the same mechanics as baldurs gate when first and foremost BG is story driven while games like WB,WT,BB, etc. are sandbox party management in which you create your own story 🤣😂
both pathfinders are cool too (kingmaker and wrath of the righteous). DOS 2 and dragon age origins are the best ive played so far. There is a huge chance Baldurs Gate 3 will be the best one so far (the first act trough early acess is already insane fun).
Hahaha the Dungeon of Naheulbeuk used to be an Audio Drama very popular in France some 20 years ago 😄funny to see it was made into a video Game, AND ending up on lists like that 😄
Encased is an amazing game. The story is not bad, is very Fallout esque, in a sense of you expect something ridiculous but the game has its feet on the ground. Loved it
If you like Sauron, Saruman, Vader, and Thulsa Doom you need to play Tyranny, this is the game for your evil fantasies, I had such a blast playing and replaying it. Red eyes on Monday morning and all XD
well said. finally game with real moral system and ability to be evil. most games just fake this path - always most rewarding were "good" path since e.g. killing npc will close chain of quest. not in tyranny :D
I agree with Dude D:OS2 is amazing and probably one of my, if not my, favorite game. I have too many hours recorded on steam playing the game it is just an absolute blast and the first time, well to be honest every time, through the game I replay the challenging fights. The first time I encountered the Hound Master and he literally ate my ass, I just had to try again with different crazy strats. Like teleporting into a room with LoS to the HM, teleporting him in and trying to kill him, then the rest of them. Then I would add saving the guy chained up. Such a blasted to play.
@@7dayspking dude. I could name 100s of of them. I've been playing them for decades. Hell, if I pushed myself I could name 100 D&D rpgs. Lol Being in my top 100 let alone top 50 is a pretty solid placing, actually. :)
@@7dayspking I never claimed 100 D&D games were better than DOS2, though. I'm not gonna list individual games as that would take forever, but I'll just list random series that have 1-2 games if not more that ate better: BG, NWN, FO, M&M, Wiz, BT, WL, FF, GB, and PF just to name a few off hand. Oh, just to toss a few more in for giggles: ME, DQ, and DA. And, oh, if you don't even know what those are all short for, our experiences are as such that any debate will be heavily flawed especially in terms of what legit 'crpg' actually is and what we determine a 'hack n slash' is.
A really cool thing about Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, is that if you import your save game from Pillars 1 many of the choices and dialogue options you made will be carried over and remembered by characters in the sequel. Potential companions may comment on what you did in Pillars 1, or outright refuse to join you if you treated them badly. If you killed them or never even recruited them in Pillars 1 they may not even appear in Deadfire. It's not only how you chose to resolve the main quest of Pillars 1 that will change Deadfire; small and seemingly insignificant decisions can have greater consequences in the sequel. *BUT* you are also able to just jump into the action of Deadfire without ever having played Pillars 1.
I like that you can discover Islands and name them... I am the Proud Founder of Holy Guacamole Island, Saddlesquash Island, The Kissyour Sister Isles and the Island of Pashotthemule.
@@Eddison33 If you don't have a save file, you can choose one of the prepackaged starting conditions, which just assumes certain choices were made on your behalf. Some of the dialogue does feel a bit out of context because they may reference choices or side quests you never found in your own playthrough, but if you completed the main story of Pillars 1, it should make enough sense to get into the story anyway. (Edit: Or you can just play Pillars 1 again before starting Pillars 2 - it has lots of replay value)
@@Eddison33 I don't remember, it was a long time ago - I think the "big" choices were clearly described, but occasional dialogue you come across might assume certain choices in side quests. Since I used my save files for 5 out of 6 playthroughs, I don't really have a clear idea of exactly how much it includes or not - but my impression was that the game just assumes the "default" option for most minor/unimportant decisions (whichever option had the least impact on the story/character), and, as stated big choices (like which god you promised to side with, and which god you eventually chose to side with) are, as I remember it, clearly marked. Like I said, I don't entirely remember it, but the game was obviously designed with the idea that players unfamiliar with Pillars 1 could still enjoy it.
Thank you for the video! Friend, please, in Solasta expansion I almost died to the pack of crows, as lvl 3 party. And it now has Hags, so it basicaly has mother-in-law.
That Doctor Comment really hit me hard, When I was younger I had the choice to enter Med School, Had everything, talent, mind, hands, etc. But I did decide not to because I did believed that to be a Doctor you needed to care about others, How Naive and wrong I was as Doctor is Synonym to Health Merc.
Where I live healthcare is free :) It doesn't matter if you need a heart transplant or a covid19 shot - it costs 0 in both cases. Although we have private doctors as well, but people mainly use their services if they don't want (or can't) to wait for the appointment in public health system.
Just started playing Baldurs gate 1 for the first time the other day and honestly, its already one of my favourite games of all time. And its suposed to get even better later so am really excited
BG1 just fuckin gold. It's bursting with character, the classic high fantasy atmosphere is *chef kiss*. That game just gives my dorky side the warm and fuzzies.
Still can't get over the fact that Geneforge looks exactly the same as every single game made by Spiderweb Software and yet manages to somehow be much better than others :3
nice, needs more ARCANUM though.. critically underrated forgotten gem, basically Tolkien with steampunk made by Fallout devs... with lots of voice overs and a super cool story... cant get enough of that game
I am biased to Wasteland 3 because I like winter settings. I am tired of desert apocalypses. One of the many reasons I enjoy Frostpunk. I wish Tyranny was longer because there are not enough games where you play as a Villain Protagonist like the Code Masters Overlord games.
A couple other games that play similar to Baldur's Gate or the other Infinity Engine classics: - Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness (OK-ish game, not great but not awful) - Alaloth: Champions of the Four Kingdoms (scheduled release for sometime in 2022)
Man I f love you so Much, you are to the subject, no bullsheet, I love the way you present through your fun, so sad you have so few views, I bet it will beMUCH Better in the future, just to the same work, you are a great youtuber ColdBeer! Vodka!
If i were to meet a djin who grants me 3 wishes, i would use one of them to whipe my Memory of playing DoS2 just so i could experience it for the first time again. The others would be to have DoS 3 out by the end of the year and DoS 4 in development. I just liked the RPG mechanics better than riser of BG 3
The most important feature : Local co-op with wireless controllers. Divinity original sin is my game ! What other game can be played also like this ? Thanks for your feedback !
Dungeon of Naheulbeuk was a RIOT to play. The title was suggested to me about a year ago and I did a YT play through. Thoroughly enjoyed the game. While Solasta CotM is IMHO, the best CRPG representation of 5E DnD that presently exists.
Want some advice of how to get WAY more views in your channel? :) I don't care if the answer is no - there is an advice anyway: name your videos by quest you are doing. For example if you doing "Kill all the Gnolls in Penisaria" quest - name your video like that. Ditch the "grumpy old dude" from the name of the video. Your title should be as searchable as possible. If title of THIS video was "Eastern European ColdBeer names Some Games that are pleasant to the eye of Computer RPG lovers" you wouldn't be here. That's a fact:)
@@ColdBeer you make a very valid point! And with this comment " I don't care if the answer is no - there is an advice anyway", you have endeared yourself to this Grumpy Old Dude. I'll probably be shortening the length of my videos, been targeting an hour or so, and that would in turn allow me to sue a more focused title FOR the videos. TY sir, for the helpful advice!
I'm having a really difficult day, been pissed off and just in a bad mood. When I heard you say potato salad man I lost my shit lol that was the first time I laughed today, so thank you for that. Also loved the video man.
lil correction - pillars of eternity isnt D&D mechanics or D&D anything. They (mostly josh sawyer) came up with an entirely brand new ruleset and world for the game so they didn't have to use D&D.
I wish more RPGs like these would have a turn based combat option. Solasta and the Divinity games are brilliant for that. Much prefer that to the Real Time With Pause garbage
I just hope some of these games continue to come out with real time with pause regardless of all you whiny people because some of us still enjoy it. Baldurs gate 3 doesn’t even have it. I like this style of turn based too from things like final fantasy tactics but real time with pause I enjoy quite a bit in crpgs.
@@vaporsaver Wow. So me saying that I’d like more crpgs to have a turn-based OPTION is “whiny”. Now...I didn’t say I want crpgs to stop using real time with pause. I said I want more crpgs to have the option of turn-based. But that’s “whiny” apparently. Gotcha.
Love your humor! Had me laughing throughout this whole video. Bottom line should I go play Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition before any other game? What game will make me a ‘born again Virgin’ the most?
I recommend Divinity Original Sin 2 :) Also Baldur's Gate 3 (you don't need to know the story). It's in early access so far, but it still offers about 35 hours of playtime.
@@ColdBeer thanks brother. I’m leaning towards geeking out on Baldur’s Gate 3. Looks epic! By the way, I think you’ll enjoy the new D&D movie… you’ve got the quick wit of a bard!
No Aarklash Legacy? Lite RPG with emphasis on battle encounters. (IWD-like) It has a well-designed real-time with a pause battle system and interesting characters.
You could have added some dark gems like Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, Revenant,Icewind Dale,Neverwinter Nights, and so on, you could say they are in GoG and put the links to get them :P.
@@ColdBeer GREEED!!!!! A merchant makes money, whenever he can, wherever he can, as much as he can, with whatever he can, CAPITALISM!!!!, XD.sorry, I'm watching too much Ascendance of a Bookworm and taking Benno Lessons to heart XD.
Torment : Tides of Numenera disapointed me. I don't know, the ui, some graphics design and the dialogues are .. bad. I'm not saying I don't recommend it, I think many people can like the game and maybe even myself can like it if I force myself to play more than the beginning, but I don't like forcing myself unless i'm at the end of a game. Anyway, overall very great list. The best to me are : Pillars of eternity ( especially the 2, by far ! ) - divinity original sin ( especially the 2, by far too ) and Tyranny who is very underrated. But where are the two pathfinder games ? They should even be in the top 5 imo.
5:07 "like Baldur's Gate?" You mean better than Baldur's Gate. Solasta is SOOO much better than BG3. BG3 is 'pose to be based on 5E and yet they don't even that the Shield spell because they don't have a working reaction system in BG3. Meanwhile, Solasta 1- Has a working Reactions System 2- Has Shield Spell 3- Has Ready Action implemented beautifully. 3 things that BG3 still has not even put into their game yet.
These are just a tiny details. For me BG3 is way better game even in Early Access. I have finished it 3 times already, it's perfect. They bothered to hire some badass writers and Solasta... it looks like they wrote the dialogues by themselves. No offense though, it's good game anyway.
Tyranny is so underappreciated. Innovative magic system, Really cool story with very interesting branching story paths and hard choices to make. A lot of likeable characters as well. Great game!
My friend and I recently played through Solasta: Crown of the Magister. It has great potential, though is kind of scummy with it’s monetization. He loved it I hated it Make of that what you will
I cannot agree. Most of the shown games are turn based. Baldurs Gate is not turn based and it doesn't work with turn based. Larian does it wrong, that is my opinion. I think turn based rpgs and Baldurs Gate are completely different type of games. I just cannot understand, how you could not mention Dragon Age. That is very odd The list should be: Dragon Age, Tyranny Pillars of Eternity 2 in rts mode (not 1, 1 is really not that great. And i tried turn based mode with poe2 and in my opinion it sucks because turn base ruins the immersion) Pathfinder1+2 (rts mode) Yeah and that's it. I don't felt any Baldurs Gate vibes in any other game. There is one in between game, that is Temple of Elemental Evil. It is turn based, so your immersion is worse, BUT it does really a lot things very great. The kind of sidequests and riddles are very similiar to Baldurs Gate and the setting fits in well, both in graphics but also style and story. It feels a bit like it also could have become a DLC for a baldurs gate game. AS already said, i feel like turn based rpgs are its own genre. And i dislike this genre because turn based games have many downsides in complexety of combat and AI behaviours. If you have a chance to pick between turn based and real time, always pick real time. Turn based gives you the illusion it would be more complex, because you feel more strategic. But it is a false prediction. Real time will require more strategic efforts because everything happens at the same time and you cannot high ini rush enemies.
