Tatiana Melendez is a 25-year-old supreme goddess from Puerto Rico. She recently received her bachelor’s degree in Drama from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus, graduating Magna Cum Laude. My husband has absolutely no idea about contumes but even he was astonished by Sansa's coronation dress.

Sansa's coronation gown was so beautiful. And the symbolism of her unbound hair just added to the moment. I just wish they'd given her a proper crown. No real queen would be coronated with little tiny tiara, but as tiaras went it was quite lovely.

Hi Mimmi, I kept my opinion back on that - it didn't look good on camera - it certainly looks better in the high res picture. But I never liked Cersei's crown either. That's just me. :)

Perhaps it as another piece of symbolism: the North is not as fancy as the South, so they don´t need big displays of colors or crowns

She should have been crowned with something resembling the iron crown of the Kings of Winter. This circlet looked like a two headed snake.

1-Sansa coronation dress is my favorite of the whole series, I think Clapton wanted to said goodbye with the best dress. 2- After watching the documentary my number 2 are the smallfolk of Kings landing, perfection, some were colorful with yellow, reddish tones, love them, the little girl scare in the pilar when Daenerys was burning everything stole the show. 3- Robyn's was my favorite male outfit, masculine and feminine at the same time, loved the color I watched his other outfits and I think his style is underrated 4- Sansa's dragon glass and Daenerys red version or her usual outfit stole my heart too

Sansa's coronation gown was gorgeous and meaningful. I wish we could have hada couple of Margaery's dresses in this list, especially her wedding dress. Some of Dany's free cities fashion was noteworthy as well. I loved the mix between the flowy fabrics and the Dothraki riding pants and leather boots.

I loved Daenerys' and Sansa's winter outfits in seasons 7 and 8. I think they really pull them off. I personally don't really like Arya's weird cloak. It doesn't look like it would be easy to wrap yourself up in, and one arm would be colder than the other. Also it looks a bit odd.

I loved Sansa's coronation costume. The leaf design embroidered on the fall of the sleeves was so beautiful. I wanted to see more details while she was getting dressed but it was over so quickly. So I really appreciated the closer look. Thank you ❤️

No mater how trash this season was, the costumes where amazing again (after that let down of season 7) Sansa's coronation gown definitely deserves its spot. And i love how it reference Margaery considering Sansa never mentioned her passing.

In the books Sansa is very protective of Margaery she doesn't want her to marry Joffrey so she won't be hurt.

I'm in the OTHER 50%, not doubt rushed, but they hit all the points, and Danny was foreshadowed since S 1 , book 1 not becoming Queen. Bran was always in the top 5 or 6 for King ( if you read books, or in forums for some time. I just wanted more exposition on Bran; Cersei to die a humiliating death or she and Jaime go out like Elarria and Tyene, they see each other, but can't embrace and Bronn to die in his castle of the POX ! .

Thank you for showcasing the wondrous costumes of G of T. Many viewers have criticized the writing and cinematography of the last two episodes. So it's considerable consolation to see that the costumes were a triumphant success.

Sansa's Queen of the North gown is definitely one of the best in the entire series! I saw it and can't get over the gorgeous details and consistency with her character's tendency to reflect her family members in her clothing. Although Cersei's dresses have been pretty consistent since the deaths of Tywin and Tommen (more masculine and mostly in black), it was nice to see Lena Heady in Lannister red in the end.

I understand that she was in mourning and that the silhouette was supposed to mimic the style and strength of her father (i.e. that she was the son and leader that her father always wanted and tried to raise Jamie to be), but the black dresses seemed to dull her usual expressiveness of her past styles.

@@Costume_CO this may be a random question, but have we heard anything about Sansa's coronation gown armor? I've been trying to find more information on its creation (which I hope will be in the upcoming book). I can tell that there are branches reminiscent of the weirwood tree in the Godswood, but am assuming it was cast similar to the crown, as you mentioned in your video.

Hi Laurel, it was made by the Game of Thrones team at their shop. Michele Clapton said it was crafted by Giampy, I assume that is one of her armour makers. You can try asking her on Instagram. She sometimes responds. From what I can tell, (and also what Romy has said) it is a breastplate (no backplate) that is made in two pieces to allow for the form around her bust) and then likely soldered together. It's then tied onto the gown (you can see the laces in the one image. Hope that's helpful!

@@Costume_CO Thanks! I'll give that a try. I noticed the ties, but some of the other details of it were harder to make out since there are only a few closeup shots in the episode. This dress may have pushed me over the edge into cosplay. I need to make this someday (when I have the skills)! Thanks for sharing the fabric link, too. I found a knockoff/printed version of it on Spoonflower, if people are looking for a more cost-effective option.

I watched the last episode with some of my best friends who aren’t really into costumes. I remember that we were all quite disappointed with the episode until I saw sansas coronation gown and I completely freaked out. They still make jokes about my reaction ^^ I must say, I did not like this season that much but I adore the costumes.

Totally agree! The name that Tatiana gives Bran's cape, the pellegrina, is taken from the name of the pope or cardinal cape worn over top of the cassock!

Without room for doubt, the best dress of the entire series is that of Sansa's coronation, too many details without being exaggerated and Sophie Turner wore it in an extraordinary way. Great counting, I agree with everyone.

It is totally made for queen Sophie of house Turner tbh (apart from being literally made for her). In my dreams she was allowed to keep it lmao. Like Arwen from Lord of the Rings could also keep the dress from the ending.

I love the Weirwoods on Sansa! She is not only Stark, she is northern. She used to identify as more southern, like her mother, but not in the end. Her being crowned was the most satisfying part of season 8 for me.

Although Sansa's coronation dress was MAGNIFICENT, I feel that, throughout the series, no one was better dressed than Dany. Especially the last 2 seasons. Margery Tyrell comes close. Also loved Cersei's final red outfit. Looked so badass!

As a designer of handmade jewelry I appreciate the work that is done in these costumes, but if you work comes on the screen being lazy it's not good. For Daenerys, there isn't an original dress in season 8 everything is reused from the previous season with a little change in design and color. Clapton once said she didn't want to give Daenerys a crown in season 7 because she is not officially queen, but damn it she should have done that in season 8, she should have worn red more and black less and even add silver tones not grey. The red dress and finale dress are my least favorites, for the last one I wanted for her to wear something red and bold and possibly a dress, but 6 episodes everything was rushed already. Sansa won at the end and not only the north but in her final outfit as well. P.S you can see that Michelle once she learned that Dany will perish at the end gave up on developing Dany's costumes gave up on giving her glorious outfit at the end. Only Ramin Dajawadi gave her a proper goodbye with that track "The iron throne".

I was so happy to see this video, as I didn't see Sansa's feather/fish scale dress in the actual season, because it turns out it was in Winterfell in the dark, I couldn't see that entire episode. Thank you for such great coverage of what was a cinematically beautiful season. (though the writing as we know, sucked) I love your coverage of costumes.

thank you for another well done video. Loved seeing the three eyed raven sigil on the Kingsguard armor. And loved seeing the red leaves of the Weirwood trees on Sansa's dress, I didn't realize she had that detail on the dress in the last episode. I'm still pissed about how they changed Daenerys' story line, well for me at least the prior seasons of the show were good, however I feel betrayed by the show.

@@pamelaalsop7772 Selfish to fight for their land and people, traitor to who... Danny? They didn't betray her, they fought with her even in KL. They just won't except her as their ruler and they were quite upfront about it, and Jon warned her since 7-3. Nothing Sansa did equates to the evil of Cersei, or Danny. The only "Queen " who protected her people, provided, food and shelter for the people, who argued for the welfare of the combatants and Danny's own fighters and DRAGONS the ONLY ONE who did this was SANSA STARK of Winterfell.

@@pjfsr7024 Sansa manipulates everyone around her to benefit herself (just like Cersei tries to). She undermines Jon since the moment they have taken back Winterfell, she planned to have him die in the battle of the bastards- she smiles when she comes in with the knights of the Vale who she didn´t tell Jon about asuming him dead- her smile dies when she sees him chase Ramsey. Shouldn´t it be the other way around if she had any affection for him? She almost kills her sister: it hadn´t been for Bran, she would have trusted Littlefinger yet again and executed her own blood! She makes all the Lords favor her so that Jon is met with a cold reception when he comes back with Dany eventhough everything he does is to safe everyones life from the White Walkers. She is horrible to Dany who literally came to her home to safe her from certain death and doesn´t even acknowledge that they would have perished without Dany. Honestly if you want to know everything that makes Sansa a bad person, check out "Why Sansa sucks" by The order of the green Hand. She is a Cersei-Littlefinger Hybrid and has more of her Tully mother than her Stark father. She doesn´t have the honor of a Stark, she is a political player, the exact opposite. Everything Sansa did equates her to being evil. And that starts as early as season 1

It was entirely appropriate. The North isn't rich, especially now with all the war damage. And they tend to keep things simple and pragmatic. So an understated crown fits right in.

I always enjoy all of your costume videos. Always a treat. How is Arya a stark but not really a Stark anymore? Wonder what that means? What because she randomly decided to set sail? On a ship covered in Stark sigils? Seems like a Stark to me. She left home once as Stark returned as one and I'm sure now that she left again she did it still as a Stark. Traveling doesn't change that.

If only the writing was as good. If the costumes reflected the writing, everyone would have worn garbage bags. Cersei looked so good and she was completely wasted this season! Poor Lena. And yes, Sansa's coronation costume is probably the best costume in the show, period. Sure, her becoming queen of the North didn't make a ton of sense, but it's a great costume.

It is mostly faux fur, but there is a bit of rabbit lining the neckline and hem. Michele also has stated that she does her best to avoid virgin fur and that as much as possible it is upcycled.

Sansas Costumes were really gorgeuous this season and she doesn´t deserve it, especially the coronation dress: stunning, beautiful but not deserved character wise. She is a Tully and not a Stark, she embodies literally nothing of the honor and strong sense of justice of her Stark father, she is a manipulative Littlefinger-Cersei Hybrid who broke a promise made infront of a weirwood and then she gets to don the leaves as a symbol of the north. That´s so wrong... it makes me wanna cry from a story perspective but also makes me wanna do all her costumes from a costume perspective- they are simply so stunning! The costumes (of all characters) were what carried me through this horrible season! Thank you for the indept analysis and I will make sure to use the link for Micheles costume book!

A little addition: her tiara is proof that she is a deciple of Cersei and no real northener, the kings of the north donned bronze crowns with 9 iron longswords. If they had wanted to make her a real Stark, they should have given her the real crown of the northern kings and not some southron tiara that reminds people (righfully so) of Cersei, who was her mentor.

The Starks' honour is what gets so many of them killed, Sansa used her time with Cersei and Littlefinger to learn how to play the game of thrones, she uses what she learnt from them in the interest of her family. Now she has the North in better position than she would have if she chose to be 'honourable', and she has the knowledge and experience to maintain it. Also I think that since she's made the North independent again she's definitely earned the right to wear clothes that reflect her Stark heritage. That being said I still don't particularly like her character, but I do respect her.

Wow this might be the most unforgivably vomit-inducing misinterpretation of Sansa Stark and ASOIAF/GOT as a whole that I have ever seen and I have seen a LOT of pretty bad ones. Sansa Stark is one of the few characters who embodies the philosophy of realism and pragmatism and the nuanced, ambiguous, and morally uncertain interpretation of human nature that GRRM conveys throughout the entire story. She begins her story in the literal most privileged position a girl could possibly be in Westeros, desperately clinging to her naive, childish delusions about reality that support the life she expects for herself, even as everything she holds dear quickly falls away and she is left completely alone and vulnerable. She spends years being subjected to constant manipulation, dehumanization, and torture without anyone who truly has her best interests at heart, but slowly manages to learn from those who mistreat her. She develops into someone cunning and intelligent, who sees the world for what it truly is and understands that nothing in reality is as simple as the absolutist notions of honor, justice, chivalry, and love that she once believed in. She understands that real actions have real consequences, completely regardless of whether they are just or honorable. But despite her darker, complex understanding of the world being learned from the likes of Cersei, Little Finger, Olenna Tyrell, the Hound, etc., she DOES NOT become a primarily self-interested, cruel, evil person--instead, she uses her strategic intelligence to ensure her own self-preservation and that of her family and in the best interest of the North, even when it means discarding absolutist notions of honor. Sansa Stark is SANSA STARK. By the end of GOT, her character is defined BOTH by all of the suffering she went through during the course of the show and the many hard lessons she learned, but also by her identity as a Stark and how that shaped her early in life. Sansa is one of the few (possibly only) characters whose arc I wholly satisfied with at the end of GoT and I am very thankful her gorgeous final costume reflected this.

Lucy Carter You are spot on and I appreciate your comments on Sansa! The two things that I didn’t like is 1) that she made a promise in front of the wierwood tree and broke it...only to wear the leaves on her dress (as the OP has stated). D&D should have made her promise Jon elsewhere so as not to insult the significance of the tree. 2) Sansa’s tiara looks like Cersei’s when Sansa hasn’t seen Cersei since Joffrey’s death. How would Sansa know what Cersei’s tiara look like (Brienne wouldn’t have cared to tell her). Other than that, Sansa’s style is fantastic!

But I thought the dress had a lot going on at the same time trying to fit all the details that represented sansa's storyline at once and it just didn't work for me, but honestly i may be a little biased since I've grown to hate Sansa during this season, she's so power hungry and bitter, she's jealous and claims that her own selfish actions are for the good of the north, at least Daenerys was honest about her ambitions and motivations. Great video by the way.

Arya's last outfit, was super strange & awful looking. The best, imo, was Margery's rose wedding dress. We didn't see much of it, but it was gorgeous. Sansa's last dress, w/ the weirwood leaves.....awful.

Sansa and arya show pride in the stark direwolf, sansa had it on her crown and arya on her ship. But bran didnt, his symbol is the three eyed raven he now is. To me it seems as of bran is putting aside his name and family, just as westeros putting aside the familial line of succession for the monarchs. Jon also has put his stark emblems aside, maybe showing his new life beyond the wall, with the things that haunted him in the south behind him. Kinda wish that jon and bran had kept some reminder of their families though

I heard name at the top and was like, “Wait, what? It’s me!” 😂 I never noticed the BEAUTIFUL patterned fabric edging Gilly’s robe and underdress. I wish I had seen that during the show! It totally transforms my opinion of her season 8 costume and adds what I thought it had been lacking.

Loved 'Game of Thrones' and their costume designs. Set design was amazing too. It was interesting to see the 2 hour behind the scenes show, where they went into their costumes and set design. I was blown away. Jon Snow's winter uniform, weighed more than a small child. Cersei's costumes were black and spikey, a bit more scary, to make her appear as the cold hearted woman she had become. Her burgundy velvet would''ve been beautiful, but the metal work came off as making her appear as mean Cersei. Your videos and thumbnails are really good, Heidi. Thanks for the good video.

Another magnificent video! Correction: The Japanese “do” shown in the historic photo is not lamellar like the Lannisters’ or traditional samurai armor. She is wearing a more modern do, formed of a sheet of lacquered bamboo, bent into a 3/4-cylinder to match the torso. The thin slats of bamboo are aligned vertically, melded together by lacquer, bordered with reinforced indigo cloth, and faced with leather or sharkskin below armpit level. This construction allows for flexibility when tying it onto your body or storing it for travel. It’s topped and sewn into a padded leather piece, (the section decorated with horizontal embellishments and covering the upper). Today, girls and women wear almost identical handmade “do” as part of“atarashii naginata,” a martial art.

I love this video but this quote doesn't make any sense out of context (I think it was the answer to a question someone asked her?) and the pauses in awkward places make it even harder to understand. Do both Arya AND the rabbit-skin represent Bran, Rickon etc. in their youth? Again I love how informed these videos are but I think it is worth paraphrasing what the designer said from time to time, especially when you are taken quotes from multiple places and you start to double up on things eg. you say the needle represents Arya twice.

The quote you're using is an answer to a question, so when you take it out of that context (of it being a direct answer to a question on Instagram) it doesn't really make any sense, unless you include the question or take her quote and put it in your own words. Maybe say something like: "According to Clapton, 'The needle [and] the asymmetry of the cut [is a reference to] Arya, and the rabbit-skin on the inner side of the neck pad is reference to Bran, Rickon, Jon and Theon in the youth" Or: When asked about any references to Sansa's family, she responded: The needle, the asymmetry of the cut... etc. Anyway, otherwise this video is really good, that part just stuck out to me because it's the only part that feels awkward

The rabbit skins are visual references to Jon, Theon, Bran and Rickon because for the first season or so, all four of them wore rabbit pelts on the shoulders of their cloaks. It symbolised their positions as slightly inferior to the heir of the Stark family (Robb, who wore a wolf pelt on his cloak, like Ned) and their slight divergence from the family (Jon as a Snow, Theon as a Greyjoy, Bran became the Three-Eyed Raven etc.). Michelle Clapton mentions it somewhere in the book The Costumes of Game of Thrones

For me: Dany Margaery Cersei/ Sansa Sansas final dress gets definitely the price it just felt so wholesome and was absolutely beautiful. The crown shows that Sansa has come to conclusion with who she really is, a northerner not a southern lady like she wanted to be. She is like Lyanna beautiful on the outside but with iron underneath. The crown was simple like the north. Her crown and Cersei’s are similar in style I think it has to do with who influenced Sansa the most. Cersei wants to look more masculine in it and show power through it like the dresses she wears are embroidered heavily but still don’t look like she is weak. All of the costumes fit the arc the characters went through. Don’t get me started on Dany and Margaery still my favorites Edit: I definitely get the book! That’s a dream come true
