Costume Designer Jany Temime and Costume Supervisor Joanna Lynch reflect on collaborating with different departments as they created the costumes from scratch and the development on Rhaenyra’s wedding dress.
All the costumes were on par with craftsmen from the ancient world. Milly Alcock looked absolutely beautiful in that dress. Such amazing craftsmanship from the designers, cutter and seamstresses. The detailing and embroidery is a pure work of art. I’m glad it’s on display in the museum in Belfast.
It amazes me how much effort, how many people, and the time and materials it takes to design and create this world. I can't imagine the production costs.
Omg, this is the very first time we're seeing the wedding cape thing up close and I must say, it's GIVING! The details put into every fabric/costume were astonishing. Kudos to every person who is part of the art department. From GoT to HotD, all costume designs were on point.
Although I liked Rhaenyra's wedding dress, I loved even more Alicent's reveal green dress. Oh, gosh, it fitted so elegantly yet anticipated such dangerous clouds in the horizon... I had chills when I saw it. It was the equivalent to Margaery's wedding gown to House of the Dragons.
You can tell they have more money since the beginning in this show. In GoT the first season was quite toned down regarding what would we see later in costumes and stuff like that. Specially considering how incredibly rich and extravagant are Martin's descriptions of dresses and jewelry.
Absolutely beautiful work I mean honestly, Game of Thrones and HotD have some of the best if not THE best costumes, scenery, prop design, special fx, etc. I have ever seen in television or on the big screen. As an artist myself I truly appreciate everything these guys do. Just spectacular work all around. Thank you! ❤ can't wait for season 2!
The costume and set design is so fantastic in this show - I loved that there was this sense of connection to Westorosi culture that was similar to what we saw in GoT but distinctly different, especially in the sense and implication of 'targaryen' influence and Valyrian traditions in the style of dress and iconography. I loved how we got a sense of a golden age of wealth or how even the red keep looked so much more fresh compared to the later days.
Love this! The detail on the costumes with the house colors & sigils has always been a favorite aspect of mine in GOT! Now in HOTD they did it again the clothes are awesome!
How about Alicent's wedding dress? I'm pretty sure it got leaked... And the designer bit upset the director decided to cut off the wedding ceremony for Alicent and Viserys.
I loved the wedding dress and I kinda felt like the style was a good sort of throw back to the Valyrian roots if you look at all of the fan art of the Valyrian noble families before the doom of Valaryia the gowns are quite sheer and skimpy, with a very Grecian feel.
There is such talent within the production staff of HotD and Thrones! I'm glad (for this show at least) the writers are respecting that talent by crafting a story worthy of the effort the costume designers, armorers etc put in. Unlike the later seasons of Game of Thrones...
It is true that George has portrayed rhaegar as some kind of mythical creature the way Jaime and Cersei described him He will look a god in that Armor studded with rubies who was literally killed by the demon of the trident
@@johnbernhardtsen3008 the season that should not be mentioned got a bunch of emmy"s, which shows what they're worth! Final episode won best script.. I mean half of it was "Tyrone walks, Tyrion walks a bit more, looks at burnt dude, walks some more" & so on.. it really was genius stuff from Benihoff & Weiss, it was as outstanding as the lighting was in episode 3
@@johnbernhardtsen3008I think that was the following episode but I could be wrong.. they have totally redeemed themselves with HOTD, but I will carry the anger from the season that shall not be named for a very long time.. I didn't put 10years of my life into it just to see it ruined by a pair of talentless fools who's only interest was to destroy something so special by just seemingly not caring enough as they wanted to go do those star wars films.. & Disney fired them from that due to the back lash & wrath that they incurred.. so that backfired on them lol rightfully so
@@borisVspider66 Talentless fools? D&D created the best fantasy tv show to date, HOTD proves GOT hate was overblown and led to NOTHING. Disney never fired them since they never got the job in the first place, there was a bidding war and Netflix ultimately won and now D&D has a mutli million dollar deal and they are still working with some of the cast and crew from GOT. If you wanna talk about destroying something, let's start with GRRM who has yet to finish 13 years later lol
Absolutely crushed the pathetic-drabby-muted-uninspired crap we saw in GoT (especially around halfway through when 99% of people dressed like they're in the Nights Watch)
They did a not of good stuff, true, but a few things popped out in a, hmmm, not-good way, like how the same dragon-shaped buckles kept appearing on all the Targ's clothes over the different timelines, and some of the armor and jewellery looked like plastic. Otherwise, great choises of colours and cuts! :-)
They need to work on the costumes and the wigs more Game of Thrones had ICONIC costumes unfortunately HoTD didn't have that😢 Should've brought back the costumes and hair designers from Game of Thrones.
I loved the male costumes but something was off with the tailoring in the female costumes. Almost all of them have fitting issues around the armpits (2:28 & 2:38) . Also, in a lot of dresses you can see boobs squished flat without proper support under the boobs (2:20) in that same dress there is a seam right in the middle of the dress that seems to serve no purpose. A lot of the fabrics felt too stiff or didn't really fit the dresses they were made into (for example the skirt part of her wedding dress at 4:17 is pulling in a weird way) . Some of the dresses I loved most were Alicent's green gown and the brown leather dress Rhaenyra wears during the hunt.
I feel like the costumes for adult Rhaenyra & Alicent were much better so maybe the costume department just had some struggles fitting the clothes to young womens bodies. IDK if they had time to do fittings for these costumes, bc that is probably the only way to fix these issues.
LockDown and Brexit, uff poor staff working in logistics and acquisitions. I know what a nightmare that can be for events stuff not arriving on time. Stress will put ears on you because you're messing up the work of others and they have to loose sleep and family time to cover for your shortcomings.
Honestly, did not love the costumes. And this wedding dress in particular was… not my favorite. I still can appreciate the hard work it took to make these, though. But PLEASE, for the love of god, get better wigs next season!!
