Well a lot of Chinas exports are foreign companies that already made 90%+ of its product just shipped to China to be assembled, then label that as "China export" when in fact its not even manufactured in China. Like iPhones for eg.

It was all made on the Mainland. But since they are counting 'exports', I guess you are right. The HK surge could be due to the trade war, but I have serious doubts about the data. HK didn't suddenly become a re-export hub overnight. It has been that way for decades. I don't see how HK's volume can jump 60,000% in a year. I believe the volume may have increased due to the trade war, but we should only be talking double-digit percents at most. There is something weird about the data. Also, Taiwan is conspicuously missing, even though it is one of the largest exporters of semiconductor chips. The logical explanation for Taiwan's absence is that it has been included under China, but then, it makes no sense to split off HK as a separate entity. A far better metric for who is 'winning' in high tech is to count value added in actual manufacturing within that country, not exports.

Might have some changes about the data calculation rule about Hongkong after the trade war began.
