I tried it out on Android 8 and it worked just fine without needing location access, but I think it really depends on the device you have. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to exist a way around this (yet). I’ve seen the same implementation with the need for location access in other wifi-privacy apps as well. At this point you need to decide between leaving your Location ON the whole time and sending data through having Wi-Fi ON the whole time. You could block all apps from being able to get your location data, except Wi-Fi Privacy Police. On the other hand, you would always have to enable location access for nav. apps manually when using a map service. | Hope that helps a bit. |

There are several reasons why I can recommend “unit converter ultimate” with a lot of confidence: The strict inclusion policy of f-droid doesn’t allow apps with proprietary analytic dependencies. Instead you have to use FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software) analytics or remove Non-Free dependencies completely. Because of this condition (and many others) f-droid apps in general are trustworthy and not hard for me to recommend, contrary to Google Play Store Apps, where this kind of regulations are not in place and where you have to be more careful about what is being done with your data. Another point would be the fact, that I checked the App for trackers with Classyshark3xodus and it didn’t show any at all. Additionally, I use an App called “Tracker Control” which is being developed by people from the Department of Computer Science at Oxford University. This App allows you to display all network traffic that sends data from your App to other companies. On Unit Converter Ultimate I could not find any network traffic at all, even though I have been using it for quite a while now. And even if you still are not comfortable with unit converter ultimate having internet access all the time, this should not be a problem. With “Tracker Control” (from F-Droid) you can block the internet access for apps of your choice completely, when other apps at the same time have internet access. | I hope that helps. |
