It's a new year and a new decade. So it's time to re-evaluate my favorite movies of all-time. I previously did a top 10 favorites video, but it was back when my editing style was still being developed and it didn't include any movies from the 21st century! So I wanted an update which better reflected NOW.
With this video I'm not trying to impress anyone my favorites list. I'm well aware it's a totally generic list for someone my age. And I'm totally fine with that! I've never presented myself as having particularly sophisticated tastes.

I love how unapologetically mainstream and blockbuster heavy Sean's list is. He's just talking about the movies he loves and enjoys without worrying about people calling him basic for not having any indie or less well known films. This is what cinema is all about, I'd much rather hear a guy lovingly talking about the movies he watches than some critic talking about depressing unknown dramas

I can be a major film snob, but I'm actually fine with this guy's list. There are more Criterion blurays on my shelf than I can count, but I also love a well shot, well executed, entertaining big-budget extravaganza. And if that's what you like as an audience member, by all means, do you. Personally, my main problem with the list is that *Jaws* ended up being his deepest cut. This is a major problem, in my strong opinion, with too many RU-vid film channels: a (seemingly) relative lack of knowledge about- or regard for?- cinema history, I was talking to someone the other night about how I've noticed that *Jaws* seems to be a sort of cut-off point for too many film-RU-vidrs. As if, beyond 1975, cinema is some kind of abstract, no-man's-land modern audiences can't identify with. And that's not remotely the case. When he picked *Jaws* early in the list I said to myself, "This will likely be as far back as he goes". I was just kind of bummed to see I was right. I'd love to send him a stack of 8 or 10 blurays, all pre-"Jaws", with a note saying simply: "Dude, enjoy". Because he probably would. He clearly loves cinema. I don't blame anyone for not being a film scholar. It's just too bad how many people- who otherwise love movies- may be unnecessarily cutting themselves off from literally decades of amazing cinema because of what they *think* it is. But anyway. That was my only real gripe.

Well I mean they are blockbusters for a reason. They wouldn’t be huge hits if they weren’t amazing. All of the films in my top 10 are blockbuster hits except for Godzilla: Final Wars and even that was a blockbuster hit in Japan.

*Excellent* list. I was just commenting elsewhere, it's unfortunate how many of the more "popular" film-RU-vidrs don't seem to be all that literate about cinema, pre-"Jaws". *Or* if they are, they definitely don't talk about it much. One of the only films on your list I haven't seen is William Wyler's "The Children's Hour". A few months ago I found a ridiculously low-priced bluray of it on Amazon (produced by the BFI.) I've wanted to see it for a long time, so I blind-bought it. Can't believe I haven't watched it yet. Sometime soon. Another film you listed that I haven't seen (or even heard of) was *When Marnie Was There* so I wikipedia'd it. Looks like a pretty lovely film. I'll try to check it out soon as well.

My favorite movie of all time is Princess Mononoke a Japanese animated film from the 90s made by studio Ghibli. It's really great, the action is exciting, the score is poetic, the animation is stunning and at times even captures a sort of beauty that only miyazaki can capture. It has deep and complex themes about the moral grays in warfare and the environmental issues we sometimes foolishly treat as black and white. And, of course, it has that magic that just warms your heart with every rewatch. Have you seen it? Or any of the other Ghibli films? Because I bet you'd love them!

My top 5: 5. Jurassic Park (it was such an influential film for it’s time and it still holds up, really good film) 4. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (a lot of action and an interesting plot, my type of movie) 3. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (It was my favorite movie of all time until Infinity War came out) 2. Avengers Infinity War (it takes so many plots and ties them all together at the end for probably the biggest cliffhanger of all time, plus tons of action) 1. Avengers Endgame (the hype definitely paid off, it’s a sad story, a time travel story, and it’s the end of The Infinity Saga.)
