You guys are so much fun and you make us want to eat the right foods 😁 Seriously, as someone new to high blood pressure and glucose I am very appreciative of your videos ❤
Beet root juice - flaxseed Garlic Bananas (2 a day) Salmon Tuna Sweet potatoes Beans mostly white beans Quinoa Kale Spinach Oatmeal Dark chocolate or coco powder Water melon Broccoli Berries Fermented food example -kimchi Cinnamon Extra virgin oil code press better Pumpkin Walnut
Wow, thanks for that. What an encouragement that list is- I’m eating all of them and increasing cardio to lower my BP. Drs are puzzled as I have no risk factors for hypertension.
Thank you for the great information. Try to stay away from Instant Oatmeal as the oats are refined and it contains a lot of sugar. If you have the time make a batch of regular oatmeal and it will keep for a few days in the fridge. You can add cinnamon, nutmeg, walnuts, almonds, ground flaxseed, some dried fruit like cranberries. I add a few dashes of turmeric. You can place the mixture in an 8x8” pan and cut off squares for breakfast. Warm up in microwave for about 2 min. Very easy and tasty❤️
I'm struggling with high blood pressure I'm worried I'm unemployed I can😢 afford to buy some of the mentioned goods but I'm happy to hear about garlic, beetroot and flexseed It's my first time seeing you Docs God bless you 🎉
Fabulous, as usual. Being WFPB/VEGAN, 💚🌱💚I’m on board with the majority of your list. Found you because I had left replaced 1/1722, and you two offered so much valuable info. Right knee up January 2023, and you along with my surgeon, Dr Kenneth Schmidt, Ortho AZ, will MAKE MY KNEE GREAT AGAIN ! 💖
Thanks so much! Have been on BP meds for 6 years and my potassium has dropped. I am allergic to bananas so I am grateful for all the alternatives you gave today! My favs: oatmeal with cinnamon, pumpkin in anything and broccoli. Never had a sweet potato so will give them a try! Have a great week and stay safe!❤️🩺🥼
Never had a sweet potato? Well the ends are the best! They take a while though, plan a good hr in the toaster oven and pierce to see! We now cook prior to BBQ'ing 'cause how late am I expected to friggin dine anyway? Pls eat the skin, very healthy!
@@joseenoel8093 Thanks Josee! Nope, they weren’t in the stores when I was young and we never grew them in the garden. I will have to try them now for sure!
Bananas sweet potatoes Watermelon 🍉 are my favorites !! I love berries! I love yogurt & oatmeal & pumpkin 🎃 ! Thank you very much for the information !!
Love to watch you guys! The way you deliver your knowledge is the best, with humor! Thank you. I actually listen because you made me smile 😊. I love eating sweet potatoes at night because it helps me sleep during this menopause visitor I have nowadays! Thank you again for this video.
Thanks - trying to learn to eat more plant based & info easily found is enough to make your head spin & want to grab a burger - any help / resources very much appreciated
You guys make me want to go to the grocery store! I have seriously high BP 180’s over 100’s. On 125 mg Losartan and 25 mg hyrdrochlorothorazide. Have serious white coat syndrome and as a result have been turned away for medical procedures
Another terrific treat, docs! Always so very informative and entertaining. Only trouble is most of what you talk about, I’ve either got it … or had it. For goodness sake, please don’t discuss autopsies…. Or else I’m a goner!🦒🦒🦒🦒🦒 love you guys💜💜
Know what? My mom told me I was in charge of her pre-paid funeral. I called Dartmouth to see what the future held, it's to simply to I.d. her scrawny bod pre-cremation as no mistake law entails! Past that job onto another relative, oh yes you can, why not, never did meet the guy whom she's to be buried with and that's a heck of a way for his 1st wife to be meeting my mom!
Such very important information in this one for everyone. Many thanks. I don't think I've seen Dr Weening smile so much rhyming off all those vegetables LOL. Thanks for sharing.
I'm pretty new to this. Sweet potatoes, my first year trying to do this, the article said you should be able to get 100 sweet potatoes from one sweet potatoes. Swert potatoes are from the morning glory family. Just thought I'd put this in, you are all so supportive to each other, it's like a breath of fresh air. Hope this helps
Just found your site today. Love it! Liked and subscribed. I love the little bit of humor added to the great info. Will be watching and learning from you in the future. Very thorough info answered my questions about alternatives to lower BP. Also appreciated how you mentioned daily serving amounts in some of them.
You just described my diet…good to know that I’m on the right path! Which number in the blood pressure reading is more important to keep low…systolic or diastolic?
Just discovered your videos and instantly subscribed. Very helpful and encouraging info. Doctors who talk about food as medicine -- love it! Also loved the Sesame Street reference -- you two are very fun to watch interact!
Thank you two for the great video. Some fantastic information..I will definitely be trying the things you guys mentioned..also have heard and read..that hibiscus tea also works for high blood pressure..and lowers blood sugar levels too.. again much thanks for your help 😃👍💯❤️
Thank you so much, we could do with a few doctor ' s like you to cheer the people up, its worth putting you on just for the hummer, God Bless you always❤❤😂😂
I believe the Oatmeal helps for sure. For years every morning I have a cup of Oatmeal with Honey and Cinnamon Average cholesterol averages 150 has been as low as 117 when I worked on it other ways. I use the magnesium but the potassium got to the point the level got to high. I started the thistle seed and beet addition after the last video. If it has a recordable affect i'll post it.
Does anyone remember the Netflix "Highlander" series? The poor king 👑 can't do his crowd pleasing crap and he's dying, our hero says "Have some oatmeal" but the king says that for poor people! Yogurt and oatmeal makes a nice light facial scrub!
Just found your channel, and Subscribing. This year is a test to get my blood work good. I saw a big change in triglycerides by taking 4,000 mg of fish oil daily. I did other things and trying to adjust to the Mediterranean Diet lifestyle. My weakness is sweets junk. I'm waiting on several more blood work test to show before and after video with what works for me. My triglycerides February 2022 was 459 and I dropped them in two months to recommended save level. I am waiting to see if I can keep my levels good.
Wow. I wish I can remember high school. Boy u two got good memories. Anyways, Dr. Z when I was pregnant with my daughter Rachael, I had such a craving for watermelon and dill pickles. Honestly, I would eat a watermelon a day and a jar of pickles every second day. Great great info Docs. Thxs for the valuable info. ❤️🤗🇨🇦
Hi Ash. Similar to how if you fill an expandable tube with fluid the tension in the walls increases. Like a balloon even. It’s the laws of physics. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Australian here, male, born 1952. I'm writing this to warn others. I have had gastroesophageal reflux for about 28 years - probably due to my large hiatal hernia - and have needed proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) to prevent lower esophageal erosion (which has caused significant anaemia and pain). My arterial blood pressure was noted to be high in 2006 and would have steadily increased had I😮 not used antihypertensive medication. And now it's even difficult to control with those same meds. I thought it was genetic or lifestyle originally but upon further information it seems that the PPIs are causing renal failure and *renal failure causes hypertension and vice versa*. My eGFR is 46 (should be about 90). I'm thankful for PPIs because otherwise I might have Barrett's oesophagus (cancer) or very severe anaemia, but I'm in a difficult position and I'm not the only one. Surgery for the hernia is not usually very curative or successful and has complications. As well as renal damage, my blood magnesium concentration is always below normal unless I take oral magnesium - this is also due to PPIs - but even small amounts of Mg citrate gives me diarrhea and it's difficult to get the Mg++ I need totally from diet. Losing a huge amount of weight (especially abdominal) can help (I'm doing that). Histamine receptor blockers (H2 blockers) were once the only medication available for acid reflux but these are not as effective as the newer PPIs and from my literature reading it's uncertain if they spare kidney damage either. Discussion welcome.
I bought myself a sphygmo from the chemist - it's actually a bit of fun to measure your blood pressure once a month. Still grating beets on my greens too. PS trust a medic to say ingest instead of eat lol Great vid guys!
Kale salad chop kale dried cranberries walnut raspberry vinaigrette. Yum. Spinach olive oil garlic chopped sauteed in the oil add the spinach not to long sprinkle with fresh lemon juice. Question I read that the alicin in the garlic has to be raw not cooked for the benefits true?
Hi Docs. New subscriber here but my wife has followed you for a while. Just wondering if flax oil is as good as flax seed for helping reduce high blood pressure? You guys are awesome. Thanks.
Hi David. There are less studies on the oil and we would argue too much oil is never good for you so woukd stick with the ground flaxseed. Welcome aboard!
Thanks guys informative and Funny as always ,I think your patients miss all the LAUGHS during surgery being they sleep through the show Cheers Kym Adelaide
I got the reference, and now that song is stuck in my head (but in a good way =) ) Sesame Street - Mahna Mahna (1969) Thank you for the great info, your videos help a lot.
lol. You guys are so smart and funny. Thank you for the list of foods. I just happen to be sitting here eating some homemade pumpkin muffins with lots of cinnamon in them so I'm glad to see pumpkin and cinnamon on the list. Not sure, but I've heard that celery also can help lower blood pressure. I understand that kale and spinach are great, but I prefer Romaine lettuce. I wonder if that has comparable health benefits.
Hi Words so the main benefit from celery is the fiber. Kale and spinach we would say are superior to Romaine but any leafy green is good. Thanks for watching and subscribing
So like for flax seed and pumpkin, would flax seed oil and pumpkin oil have the same effects? The fats are there. Or fish oil as will if you’re recommending tuna and salmon?
In NZ and Australia we eat pumpkin all year round. Baked with sweet potatoes, in NZ called kumera. Kumera was grown as a staple food pre-dating European arrival.
Some nice plain Greek yogurt, put some cacao powder (not cocoa), little stevia and mix!! Delish🤗probably could put some cinnamon in there😊 CACAO is a best source for antioxidants, iron, fiber and magnesium.
Thanks for another helpful video. Does it matter which type of cinnamon you use? I have read that Ceylon cinnamon is healthier but I don’t know if this is actually the case.
Fasting and drinking a big glass of freshly pressed mixed Citrusfruit-juice daily, with Grapefruit, Lemon and Orange, had my BP go down drastically from 160/90 to 115/65, and my pulse went up from 45 to 60 bpm!!! It happened very quickly as well from one day to the next! I was so surprised so I thought something was wrong with my BP- meters!? ... but I have 3 BP-meters (Omron, Braun, Beurer) and they all showed lower BP. I even bought another BP meter just to be sure, and yes my bloodpressure is way down! Some days my BP is even as low as 100/60! I have tried to not drink Citrus juice for some days and the low BP still continues. I´ve now been fasting and drinking Citrus juice for over 1 month, Another 10 days and I will finish fasting and go into the keto diet. I have lost weight from 87 kg to 80 kg so far. I know that most doctors wants you to take BP lowering medications instead, and often warns you from drinking Grapefruit juice as they know it works even better to lower BP than medics, because then the medical companies wont make that much money! A periodic fasting now and then with Citrus-juice cleans out the arteries and keeps your BP low!
