Today, I want to share an interesting home remedy that can potentially lower your risk of hypertension.
Many people with high blood pressure are told to reduce their sodium intake. However, a deficiency in sodium can lead to high blood pressure. A low-salt diet can actually worsen your blood pressure.
In my opinion, potassium is one of the key factors in restoring healthy blood pressure levels. Not decreasing sodium-just increasing potassium.
Vitamin D is also important for someone with hypertension, especially essential hypertension.
Insulin resistance is at the heart of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a combination of hypertension, high blood glucose, fatty liver disease, and high cholesterol. It’s crucial to go on a low-carb diet to support healthy blood pressure levels.
Natural alternatives for hypertension:
1. Consume more potassium (vegetables)
2. Go on a low-carb diet
3. Take vitamin D or get more sun
You can also try an incredible and simple breathing technique to help lower your blood pressure fast. This technique is called paced breathing.
Take six complete breaths per minute. Slowly breathe through your nose using your chest, inhale for five seconds, and exhale for five seconds. Do this periodically throughout the day.
Other potential benefits of paced breathing:
• It can help increase oxygen saturation
• It can help increase exercise tolerance
• It can help decrease sympathetic overdrive

The breathing to lower bp works! I discovered that while waiting on my IV infusion for RA. Prior to appointment I had been shopping and dealing with heavy traffic etc. My initial bp reading was high for me, 140/86…I knew I needed to calm down so I began deep slow breathing and seriously, within 5-10 minutes the nurse retook my bp and it was 126/60. Now I make a point of concentrating on breathing and I also take electrolytes. Dr Berg, thank you!! ☺️

Dawn: But watch out for the olives. Olives contribute to the formation of kidney stones. Read fully about kidney stones and which foods increase the chemicals that form those. I had one kidney stone and the overnight bill was $16,000. All but $4000 was paid by insurance, but people also want to avoid the awful pain of kidney stones, too. Be certain that your relatives master the kidney stone producing list of foods! I used to be fond of olives but avoid them now. I had thought that venting a whole container of olives was a healthy snack. I learned the hard way not to eat a container ofvtgem ever again and to limit my consumption to a few, rarely.

I did this on my own, and it is true, I got into it with my doctor, she gave me 30 days to correct my blood pressure, it was 158 over 94. Did not know that. but they wanted to put me on medication and I said no!. I quit my sugars, I added potassium, and I got busy, work. 2 years ago, I tore muscles and dehydrated. A friend in the army told me what to do, and no it was not salt pills. got into magnesium & potassium. Short!. in that 30 days I went from 158 down to the 120 over 80. But I also lost lbs. I mean this in a good way but I shut my doctor up. From December 9th to February 15th I lost 45 lbs. I once was an athlete and I have slipped, so I'm going down to an old weight of 200 lbs from my 260s. Then I'll see if I want to do more.

Of course their treatment is of symptoms and not causation, these same treatments often come with side effects. If you have a large upper arm, make sure the person taking your blood pressure is using a large enough blood pressure cuff because it will give an incorrect reading. Over Thanksgiving eeek at a routine checkup my primary care sent me to the hospital because my BP was over 200! I had had a stroke. What I don't understand is they wanted to get my blood pressure (which usually hovers around 140) under 160 in order to release me with a calcium channel blocker. But I'm nervous all the time now because 160 is too high and I could have another stroke.

Dr. Berg! since I started listening to you while getting back into keto, my health has changed for the better. I had developed high blood pressure while taking care of my husband that had stage 4 lung cancer. I gained horrible weight, and I was severely depressed. He passed 4 years ago and it took me awhile to work through that loss. I had tried keto shortly after his death but didn't have the right guidance. I lost weight but I also went through some serious hair loss. At the time I was led to believe that it was possibly my thyroid in which I was tested and that wasn't the case. In May of this year I made some changes in my life which helped me get back to keto. Through word of mouth I was led to you ❤ I've lost almost 50 pounds, no longer on BP meds. My hair is coming back. Recent blood work showed that my sodium is within range, potassium is up. But chloride is very low. Of course I don't know what that means and I would love to see a video on that. I do deal with osteoarthritis now so I don't know if that has anything to do with that. My friends are amazed at the change in my overall appearance and attitude. And it's ALL THANKS TO YOU!!

So now we are in December and I am down 12 pounds, and am at my ideal weight now with my blood pressure completely being normal again and I am totally off my blood pressure meds! My blood systolic blood pressure runs now in the low teens in the AM and the upper to mid teens PM with my diastolic anywhere from the 60es to mid 70es. So it is never too late to change your way of eating and obviously sugar and eating a lot of carbs has something to do with your blood pressure, I am proof of it!

AMISH TIP IS: There is that salt called Real Salt from Redmond. That salt comes from Utah and is unrefined and has many trace minerals that regular salt don’t have. It’s great to hydrate your body since most people are dehydrated. In a Pint jar with purified water add 5 Tbsp of that salt and let it sit for few hours because it needs to break down, and the water will be cloudy or even better if you make it in the evening and let it sit till morning on the counter and when you wake up have it first before anything else - so add it in your glass of water about a teaspoon with some lemon 🍋 and just keep drinking it throughout the day.

A word of caution. I was diagnosed with Hypertension when I was 40. I made all the lifestyle changes, exercise, weight loss, diet,, etc. All to no avail. Now I was not happy at all when my doctor told me I would be on medication for it, for life. Then I asked an obvious question, what are the long term side effects with this medication. There's one major side effect he said, you'll live longer. If you've made all the lifestyle changes and your blood pressure is still high, please take the medication. Be aware that hypertension left uncontrolled can lead to stroke. It can damage your heart, eyesight and kidneys.

All these other things are great but I’m 59 yrs old, I’ve had HBP for probably 20 Yrs. All I did was switch salt for Morton Salt Substitute (and I use it liberally) Over a 6 month period my blood pressure went from 155/102 to 135/78 many days even lower. Years ago doctors told hypertensive patients to do exactly this with salt substitutes. Morton Salt Substitute has 690 mg of potassium in every 1/4 tsp. I’m not promoting Morton, it’s just the substitute I happen to use. But doing this works. Doctors stopped recommending it because the drug companies own them. Without this salt substitute I’d never be able to get enough potassium ! Never ! It’s a life saver and it works. I haven’t lost any weight, haven’t started exercising or anything else. Just switched regular salt with Morton Salt Substitute.
