@@KurodaKyousuke , lovely, thanks! Regarding the list, I love how of both of the Mario games are together at 4 and 5, the third Mario game is divided from the other two by Metroid (which is a good game in its own right, but not one of my personal favorites on the console). Even the top 10 here is endless gameplay. Special shoutout to SMK. Overall, a very solid list!
@@chivalrous_chevy1163 Thanks! A short list of games that juuuuuusst missed the mark: Secret of Mana Mega Man X Street Fighter 2 Kirby's Dream Course Star Fox Zombies Ate My Neighbors Star Ocean
@Travis Edwards I like Secret of Mana a lot, but yeah I had a hard time getting into it at first too. It really is worth it once you get into it though.
Super Mario RPG's impact on my life growing up in the 90s cannot be understated. Its almost like I was born in 1985 just to appreciate this game at the perfect age.
I'm in the same boat. Also born in 1985. I've been committed to Mario since birth, and no game has brought the Mario crew to life like Mario RPG did, even over 25 years later.
I remember spending all summer playing Super Mario RPG back when it first came out. I think I had just finished 4th grade at the time, and this game was one of the most memorable games I played during my childhood.
I remember having friends sleepover party for the entire weekend. We played Chrono Trigger, Zelda, Mortal Kombat, and other awesome games from start to finish. We would take turns sleeping at night and playing the game continuously. Only waking each other up on Saturday night for important story lines or boss fights. Sunday afternoon our parents would finally come pick us up from the house we stayed at for the weekend. Man that was some fun times as a kid! We were always good friends that loved comic books and games. We were amazed when one of our group had the internet! It was like a new dimension of space and time. ... God I'm old. I have Chrono Trigger on my phone! Once in a blue moon I start it up and pass a mission. The music always makes me smile!
i had fun playing marbles in the sand, and running outside with friends, riding bikes in old European towns. Staying out all day, playing cops and robbers, no parents around, no fear of kidnapping, kids were out all day with no worries. We had no video games, and we had the best time of our lives.
I personally think Yoshi's Island is one of the best 2D platformer games of all time, not just on the system. It's graphics and game play still hold up with games released today, and it's stages are amazing.
Yeah I had both Mario rpg and Yoshi’s island. Beat em both but it’s way too hard to say which was better. It started for me with that very first sound on Mario World. That was my “you had me at hello” moment. Lol
The SNES had a ton of horsepower left on the bone. Nintendo has always tamped down the power of these consoles. There were actually prototypes being developed that could be upgraded by the at home or end user, similarly to PC's. I'd like to have seen that. I wonder what the SNES could've been had Nintendo gone that route instead of the N64. In that era the push for polygonal graphics was all but irresistible. There was so much more that could've been done with that system, that it feels like the boat really got missed. Big N got to far out ahead in some ways with the 64 and the industry wasn't really ready yet.
I have to say, I feel fortunate that I grew up during the early to mid 90's era of gaming. Ocarina of Time, Chrono Trigger, multiple Final Fantasy titles, great sport titles. Story, innovation, exciting gameplay, it really felt like a truly golden age of gaming that for better or worse may never be repeated.
My #1 for the SNES has and forever will be Super Mario RPG, and finding this video just now and seeing you have the same exact opinion is pretty awesome. It's the first game I've ever played that truly got me addicted to playing a videogame; when I was 9 years old, I would literally walk to my friend's house (where I first played it) every day just to play the game (I'm 32 now).
So repayable, from your first run making everyone balanced, then a magic or straight attack only run to trying to get as overpowered as possible. Hands down one of the best games... This list is nostalgic to its max and I implore any gamer to play most on this list.
@@Ilovewatchingsupernaturalparan of all the consoles i have tried i prefer the snes. it has a plethora of amazingly good games, and the most ergonomic controllers.
@@Ilovewatchingsupernaturalparan you're crazy but it's your opinion. I had a genesis and my brother had a snes so I would always stick up for sega and act like I had the better system but inside I knew the snes was far and away the much better system. the voices are always garbled regardless of the game and the graphics are just always better. I think aladdin was the only game where the genesis version was better than the snes version

I love your list and was wondering what could beat Chrono Trigger for number 1 but when you revealed Super Mario RPG I totally agreed. All these games bring back so many emotions. SNES is my favorite console aswell :)
I'm an old man by gaming standards and well I kinda am. At 44 yrs young now and married 23 years now, I'm always blown away how you kiddos do such a great job at editing! Just wow! I got my snes on my 16th birthday in 92 and man you are so right. Best console ever! Thank you for this video and keep up the great work! PS. I'm a grandpa gamer and proud!
This is such a great video! I remember watching my older cousin play Illusion of Gaia when I was like 6 years old. Although I have never remembered the name or been able to describe it well enough for anyone to know what I was talking about. I am so glad I watched this video, and it was so simple without any of that annoying pizazz you get on so many reviews these days. I'm going to get myself a real SNES and get some a classic gaming collection started, you've inspired me! I am such a 90's person Thanks!
Hey, man! Your content is super good and this video has been edited lovely!! I just subbed to your channel. Your script is good and I enjoy very much your sense of humor. I do I want to point one thing out, though. There are a lot of little hesitations and obvious spots where you stopped and comp-ed in. Maybe make your comps tighter and try to eliminate hesitations in your delivery. It makes your narration a little choppy and that creates a bit of a distraction while watching. Maybe I notice things most people don’t; I just wanted to let you know! I love what you’re doing. You’ve got a new fan here.💕
I noticed this, as well, but was unable to use such technical language as you did in describing it. It was distracting but I thought it was simply his manner of speech. If this is indeed a technical problem, I'd suggest addressing it as @J A suggests. If you just speak this way, no worries and great content :)
If you see the other videos I have done since then (The Castlevania videos in particular) I have definitely improved. This was my first really big script that I narrated and you can definitely hear it. Hahaha
There are two sports games that definitely should have made this list. 1 - While only released in Australia, Europe and India (for obvious reasons), I have to say that Super International Cricket definitely deserved to make the list. 2 - NBA Jam also deserved to be in there somewhere.
The SNES is my all time favourite console with the best controller and the best library of games. It's more than 30 years after its "birth" now, and I still love to play the great SNES.
SNES was such a beast. Super Mario World, Zelda: Link to the Past, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Mega Man X, TMNT 4: Turtles in Time, Castlevania 4, Illusion of Gaia, Chrono Trigger, Mystical Ninja Goemon (all four of them), Disney's Magical Quest Mickey Mouse trilogy, Terranigma, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Mega Man 7, Star Fox, Kirby Super Star, Secret of Mana/Trials of Mana, Lufia 2, Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter 2, Aladdin, Goof Troop, Final Fantasy 6, Prince of Persia, Mortal Kombat 2, Batman Returns, Adventures of Batman and Robin, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse, Soul Blazer, Knights of the Round, King of Dragons, Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, Far East of Eden Zero, Ninja Warriors, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Congo's Caper, Indiana Jones I could go on forever
Secret of Mana will always be my #1 SNES pick but I absolutely understand putting Super Mario RPG as your #1, it's one of those jewels that I still go back and play through regularly. Really enjoyed your entire list, quality rankings and there is not a game on the list I do not recall fondly.
Bruh I still remembering spending about 1 month of a summer perfecting Yoshi's Island... 100 score on every level... I was away from my friends so had nothing but the SNES of my childhood. Good times. Great vid!
I bought a SNES when I was 16 to play Street Fighter. I'm 44, and no lie... it's hooked up to my TV right now! My favorite games, Street Fighter, Mario Paint....yes, I have the mouse for it too, HALS Golf and Mortal Kombat. Tetris 2 blows!
If you liked Illusion of Gaia, you'd like (possibly love?) Terranigma. It was made by the same development team (Quintet) also published by Enix. It's considered part of the unofficial 'Soulblazer Trilogy'. (It's also one of my personal favourite games of all time!)
Honestly that's a solid list. I put Chrono Trigger 1, then Super Mario RPG 2nd in my personal list. We can both agree SNES is the best Gaming Console of all time, no debate😊
I remember as a kid I would be playing Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG and both my little sisters would spend the whole afternoon watching me play. Those were really chill times.
1:46 it is indeed, my friend. Your order is slightly different but I would probably pick almost all of these for my top 20 as well. The editing and voiceover is only getting better. I think you did a great job on this
super mario rpg is my #1 of all time as well.. nothing comes close.. the perfect difficulty, amazing story, interesting characters, I could go on and on.
Man, lots of good games here. My favorites include some you didn't mention, like the many iterations of Street Fighter 2 (which I enjoyed much more than Killer Instinct), F-Zero, Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, Earthworm Jim (1 and 2), the Megaman X games, NBA Jam, and Star Fox. With that said, there are still a ton of titles I haven't even played yet... even all these years later.
I kept waiting to see Mario RPG and was so happy to see yet another person who thinks it's number 1. It's the only SNES game I enjoy playing on my phone.
My best xmas and one of the best memories of my childhood was when i got my snes when i hear music from mario world i get teary eyed i luv my mum and dad they were the best
Aww that's nice. 😄 Yeah, I totally agree. I remember getting my SNES one Christmas in the mid 90s and it will always stand out as one of the best memories of my childhood. Such good times and many memories...
I agree with Mario RPG as a #1 pick for basically the same reasons as you. It changed my life and introduced me to RPG's as a child. I had no idea who Squaresoft was prior. I still cry when I watch the ending of that game today.
Kuroda Kyousuke I’m in the SoM camp (playing it again right now) but I WAS just talking the other day about how good IoG is. I think SoM is more polished with better music, and the multiplayer potential is great...but I don’t mind seeing IoG on that list. And Earthbound is my favorite game of all time, so thank you for putting that so high.
1. DKC: Diddys Kong Quest, 2. Terranigma, 3. Zombies ate my neighbors, 4. Yoshis Island, 5. DKC: Dixies Double Trouble, 6. SMK, 7. Tetris Attack, 8. Super Metroid, 9. Primal Rage, 10. F Zero
Chrono Trigger really could have been #1 as well. I love that game to pieces. Mega Man X just missed the top 20. I really didn't play a ton of it as a kid, and was never very good at the Mega Man games.
Oh yeah, I loved MMX. I found it a good deal easier than the NES or the Gameboy ones, which is honestly not a bad thing because there were so many cool new features in this series.
How do people still not realize in DK3 lightning lookout, if you hold a beetle above your head, it protects you from the lightning. And it shows you where the lighting is going to hit. Watch the background
Wow, what a wonderful trip down memory lane! Those music choices took me back and brought back memories I thought were long gone! I think I’m a bit older than you because I remember the US launch of the SNES. My copy of Mario World is def a pack-in with the console that we got on launch…which is still functioning just fine, thankfully. This was a great list! Of your choices, I pretty much played everything expect the JRPGs. Now I know what I missed out on. Thank you for this! And thank you EverDrive so I can catch up on those missed titles without having to pay the current prices for those FF games lol
Secret of Mana is pretty good, but Secret of Evermore blows it out of the water entirely! I was particularly pleased with your top 3, as those would probably be my top 3 as well, just in a slightly different order. For me Chrono Trigger wouldn't only be the number 1 SNES game, it's legitimately my favorite game of all time. I have it on PS1, Android, Steam, and DS. If I had to pick one game to play for the rest of my life, that would be it with zero hesitation.
My first game ever for this console was also Killer Instinct. I was 8 yrs old. My very first console to buy and own. You mentioned very important games. I've yet to have Earthbound. I never played it. All the others you mentioned are part of my collection. Great vid man!!!
@@themiketysonshow9493 I have to agree. Killer Instinct, Super Mario RPG the other two Donkey Kong Country games and actually Super Metroid I think are contenders as well
@@KurodaKyousuke yeah the reason I chose dkc 2 over the other two is because I while I think the graphics are equal in quality I think dkc 2 has the better art direction with better color variety
I received the Legend of Zelda, a Link to the Past for Christmas, and all I did for the next month was eat, sleep and play Zelda until I finally beat it on Super Bowl Sunday. It was the first time I had ever beat a video game. Not being content with that, I became determined to beat it without dying. That took to about midsummer, and then I wanted to fill all three character slots with perfect games, and that took me to right around Christmas. It is, in my humble opinion, not just the best game in the Zelda franchise, but the greatest video game of all time.
Thanks! It was very hard not to put Chrono Trigger at number one, since I think it's one of the greatest games of all time, but I still absolutely adore it. Haha
My list, in no particular order... 1. Yoshi's Island 2. Zelda: A Link to the Past 3. Chrono Trigger 4. Mega Man X 5. TMNT 4: Turtles in Time 6. Secret of Mana 7. Illusion of Gaia 8. Terranigma 9. Super Castlevania 4 10. Earthbound 11. DKC 2 12. Seiken Densetsu 3 13. Far East of Eden Zero 14. Mystical Ninja/Ganbare Goemon 2 15. Super Mario RPG 16. Super Mario World 17. Super Metroid 18. DKC 3 19. Mega Man 7 20. Kirby Super Star
@@TVans-vs3gn I missed out on SNES in the 90s and didn't manage to get one until 2008. A blessing in disguise, as it meant I could experience the system with cheaper game prices and access to most of its Japan-only library.
I like the intro, how it starts with the music and information before you begin to speak about it. Information such as when it was launched etc. One thing you should improve, is speaking with more enthusiasm, it makes most people bored and not excited about what you're saying. Try to add in little jokes here and there, for example showing a broken nintendo character and saying how broken it was compared to one of the best on the list. Overall, great video Rob. As you know, I've been your subscriber since you had 20-30. And I liked how you kinda did that by saying "Cowabunga dudes!" when you introduced TMNT.
I feel like I naturally have a rather monotone voice, so I am definitely aware of what your saying. I I've definitely been trying very hard to improve my voice overs in general, and I think like you said adding a lot of humorous moments in this video was a good idea. I'll keep working on it though. :)
Thank you for sharing your top 20 SNES games. In return, I'll share with you my own personal top 20 favorites. My top 20 goes like this: 20: NBA Hangtime 19: Secret of Evermore 18: Mario Paint 17: Street Fighter II 16: Super Ghouls & Ghosts 15: Mega Man X 14: Super Mario RPG 13: Illusion of Gaia 12: Final Fantasy IV 11: Super Mario Kart 10: Turtles in Time 9: Mortal Kombat II 8: Super Mario World 7: DKC2 Diddy's Kong Quest 6: Super Metroid 5: Earthbound 4: Final Fantasy VI 3: Secret of Mana 2: Zelda A Link to the Past 1: Chrono Trigger
Hey! Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I'm currently working on a video about the history of Rareware, as well as a top 10 games by them. I have a bunch of other ideas for videos like this so I really appreciate the support! :)
I beat the majority of every game on your list and loved them all. But the fact you ended with the only snes game that I have beat over and over is awesome to me. Super Mario RPG is the reason I became a mostly RPG player back in the day. But you didn't have a several games I would have had on the list. Like Biker Mice from Mars, Gradious 3, bubsy, aero the acrobat and batman returns ( the best beatum up game of all time ) Great vid, enjoyed watching very much.
@@fkillah not really. Megadrive had nothing to envy on the Snes, and is even a three year older console. But it seems you grew up with the Snes... For every game on this list (wich lacked Star Fox and F-Zero), Megadrive had a counterpart. You cannot deny how great games and franchises like Sonic, Ecco, Ristar, Vectorman, Virtua racing, Alien Soldier, Contra: Hard corps, Battlemania, Gunstar heroes, Ranger X, Sagaia, Greylancer, Lightning force, Phantasy star, Alisia Dragoon, Shinning force, Streets of rage, Golden Axe, Super Monaco GP, Outrun, Story of Tor, Toe Jam & Earl, Dynamitte headdy, Sword of Vermilion, Soleil, Panorama Cotton and many more are. Also i recomend you to watch the console wars documentary and see how much beloved and iconic Sega is (with full new releases and all) even when they dont make hardware since 2001. Denying that is just pure fanboism on your biased head.
@@milesr4609 your proving my point, a lot of those games you listed are largely unknown except to avid gamers. The general audience knows Mario and Zelda. You want to argue otherwise? Let’s take a poll on how many people know of echo vs Kirby? 😂 Also contra was a nes game first. So quiet down biased fanboy.
When I was a kid, everyone at my school was militantly against RPGs of any kind. If you liked them, you were badly made fun of. I can’t remember why this was the case. But because of this I never played them until later, and not got to really liking them at all.
Back when games were just games. You plug it in and it does what it's supposed to do. No internet connection, updates, microtransactions, etc. I'll always have a "nostalgia corner" wherever I live with a crt tv and a nice comfy couch with NES, SNES, Genesis, N64 and PS1 with an original Game boy and a game boy advance sp.
FINALLY! Someone recognizes FF4! That was the my first final fantasy game as well and god damn it’s awesome, FF6 is also pretty damn great so far (Currently playing through it for the first time on my SNES mini), but the 4th game will always hold a special place in my heart. It genuinely suprises and upsets me how little I see FF4 mentioned when it comes to discussing the most classic RPGs to date, everyone can’t stop talking about ff7 or ff6 to even realize my boi Cecil exists :(
i'd recommend a real emulator instead of the snes mini. the wii classic controller is the closest match to the snes original controller....and there's an adapter to make it usb. it works great on all emulators
as a kid with very limited english at the time I remember I felt so accomplished and proud of myself when I solved the Super Mario RPG sunken ship riddle, I wrote every single letter from all six boxes and try it the old fashioned way by arranging it one by one
You got your SNES right around the same time as me but i think i was younger. I can tell you are a true player salute to you my bro. You are just like me if i had been able to keep up with my Nintendo. Life got crazy and i got seperated from it and 30+ games.😭 I haven't played all the games on this list but i have played most and as for the games I haven't played im gonna take your word for it 😉 This list gets two thumbs up and one big toe from me!

Surprising to see ALttP so low on a Best SNES Games list. It's my favorite Zelda game ever, and in my Top 3, maybe even Top 2 favorite games ever. While the original TLOZ was a game-changing, monumental moment in gaming, ALttP was also far ahead of its time - moreso than TLOZ. But I can understand why it might not gel with everyone. It certainly doesn't hold your hand, and can be extremely challenging at times as well as slow at other times. But those are all things I absolutely love about it. Great list, glad the almighty algorithm recommended this video to me. Definitely subscribing!
Glad I stumbled across this list. My loose top 20 would be; 1) Earthbound 2) Super Mario RPG 3) Chrono Trigger 4) DK2 5) Super Mario World 6) Super Mario Kart 7) Secret of Mana 8) Legend of Zelda 9) Super Mario All Stars 10) Zombies ate my Neighbors 11) Kirby Super Star 11) DK1 12) Soul Blazer 13) TMNT 14) Lufia 2 15) Super Metroid 16) SMW- Yoshis Island 17) NHL 94 18) Super Soccer 19) Final Fantasy 4 20) Star Fox
Thanks for taking the time to put this video together Kuroda! Awesome list with what I consider some of the greatest games of all time! I started playing video games right before the original NES came out but became instantly addicted to the SNES when it first played it! Keep up the great work!
Good to see Tetris Attack get a bit of attention. I became obsessed with it for a few years and developed quite a high degree of skill. The mechanics are so unique, nothing like it has ever existed. The satisfaction of pulling off long skill chains and huge combos created a fascination in my mind for how the algorithms within the game must have been structured. I then embarked on a mission to create a clone of it for PC, and that process was even more captivating than the game itself was.
And we, the people of the former USSR, were in love with Sega MegaDrive. And I must admit, Sega has much faster games and in certain duels like, e.g., Aladdin, Tiny Toon, Pirates Of Dark Waters Sega sure wins.
Super Mario RPG, Zelda: A Link To The Past, Yoshi's Island, Aladdin, Jurassic Park, Goof Troop, Final Fantasy 2 (4 lol), Earthbound, Donkey Kong games, Madden, NHL, NBA Jam, Paper Boy, Earthworm Jim, all will forever be cherished memories with my brothers and my dad. He used to speedrun Jurassic Park and Zelda and we would just sit there in awe. Legendary system and games. Also had the Genesis and that also was a legendary system. Lion King was the HARDEST game I've ever played. I only beat it recently after downloading an emulator and being able to save before every hard part lol. Still took me a while
I’m revisiting this one, and man, I like this list a lot. I’d definitely put many of these on my favorite/best SNES games list. I’ll never forget when my younger brother got a Sega Genesis- I love the Sega Genesis, but every time I played it, I would think to myself “Yeah, but the Super NES is gonna beat your ass when it drops.” And it did. Not only that, but the SNES controller ended up being the core template for every single modern consoles controllers.
I received the super NES so late in the life cycle of the console that it came with Super Mario RPG! Naturally this became my favorite game of all time and the reason I still play RPGs. Big love to your number and excellent taste!
...this is a really good list, and features most of my favorite SNES games as well (Super Mario RPG, Crono Trigger, FFIV, FFVI, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario: All Stars, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Secret of Mana, etc.). Throw in Contra III and you'd have almost all of 'em.
Nice list. I also prefer Final Fantasy II over FFIII because the latter was so full of characters and side plots that it ruined the game a bit for me. FFII focused on one central character and one central plot and I therefore found it easier to invest myself in the character's stories. Nice to see SMRPG love too - I have no problem seeing it in your #1 spot.
Whoever you are kuroda, we have extremely similar tastes. I also love how much you props you gave our believed jrpgs, although id respectfully place ff6 way higher up, and switch chrono trigger and Mario rpg, as the latter was just so short a game (level 30 max was just not cool for me) , as awesome as it was. Great list, youre doing the lords work
