Just to clear it up, Atlanta Int is so busy because it is a major stop-over hub in the US, most people are in the airport for connecting flights. Additionally, Delta Airlines main hub is Atlanta Int, so service to the airport never lacks.
@Nice to meet you Well, half of Istanbul is in Asia, while the other half is in Europe, however, the most active airports are on the European side. So I guess it makes more sense to consider it a hub for Europe lol.
And the busiest airport is a transfer hub that serves no city (it does, however, serve a small town called Atlanta which contribute nothing statistically to the airport).

Atlanta is an International airport...like in Beijing...the big difference there is 70% of all flight's in and out of hartsfield...are literally International flights from other countries only around 30% are domestic flights.Beijing is not in that kind of position for that type of traffic. All 5 of the american airports are all International as well...We don't normally take flight as well since most of us own our personal vehicles.Which is more convenient than any train.

Heathrow airport has been maxed to capacity. A third runway is a must before the annual passenger volumes can make significant growth. Although it will be nice for Gatwick to get a second runway as it's single runway is even more limiting than Heathrow's double runway
We should be glad Atlanta exists then. Have you ever transferred in Chicago? It's a nightmare. International arrival have to leave the airport and then come back in through security, and half the time the airport transit system doesn't work
Hey man, Atlanta's basically imports and exports everything the US practically gets/gives because of the way it is. It's always been a heart for transportation.
Yeah, in general the airports in Europe are a bit restricted. I mean, Frankfurt for example has 3 runways (technically 4, but 1 is only for landings and one only for takeoffs, making it not much more effective than 3), but due to noise-protections for people inside the area it only has planned flights between 5am and 11pm, meaning it has 6 less hours for flights than any other airport on the list, wich is quite a bit (basically 25% less time). In my mind stuff like this makes Heathrow and Frankfurt some of the most impressive airports in the world, even though both Schiphol and CdG are impressive in their own ways.
@@hippo862 srry I think u don't notice this I said Asian countries ,I know Singapore and South Korea also Asian countries but I forgot to tag there flag's....
It is curious because in the top 20 all the airports are from really big cities like Dubai, Tokyo, Singapore, New York, LA... But the number one airport is Atlanta😂😂😂
Atlanta is a big city. Sure not like New York City or London, but it's kinda a gateway between Europe and North America I feel like. A good introduction if you will
TheMatrixster Another reason is that Atlanta is just small enough to only have 1 airport. All cities bigger than Atlanta have multiple airports serving its metro area. Atlanta doesn’t have that
New York City as a whole is the first or second busiest city airspace in the world (London being the other, depending on how you count). The 3+ major city airports means none of them are individually at the top
Dubai literally climbed from non-existence to third busiest. This wouldn't have happened without the help of Emirates. And it helps that they're one of the top rated airlines in the world.
Don't forget, Chicago midway international airport handles majority of other smaller airliners, imagine those airlines passenger in O'Hare, sure is busiest in the world!
@@tluangasailo3663 Los Angeles to New York train route length is 2447 miles and it takes about 68 hours. Shanghai to Lhasa train route length is 2717 miles and it only takes about 48 hours. Yeah and I think if the distance is too long then people would probably take planes since it's still a lot faster than trains...
Yes, but people should do a stop-over and VISIT Atlanta and not just use it as a transfer hub ! I was there for a computershow (Comdex) and had a great time. Life there seems so relaxed. I really liked Atlanta, the city and it's beautiful surroundings.!
Was interesting to see how it started out with most listings being American, but then changed over the years into more of a mix. And once the change happened it didn’t take too long to mix it up.
In typical China fashion, they come out of nowhere to be in the top 3. Also, I liked how in the video it showed red numbers indicating shrinkage, it made it a bit easier to follow.

For people wondering, Beijing won't be taking the No. 1 spot because the new Daxing Airport, which is located south of the city and will be even bigger, will open as soon as next month (you can check out the videos). Dubai is therefore most likely to overtake Atlanta.
@@WawamuStats Daxing will compete with Istanbul's new airport which was opened earlier this year. Both are built on a gargantuan scale. From what I remember reading, if all project stages are realised, Daxing and Istanbul will both eventually handle up to 200 million passengers.
This ranking doesn't tell about the busiest airspace of a major city. New York City has the busiest airspace because it has 3-4 airports. So, that's why NY airports don't feature in the list. Same goes for London and Mumbai.
More and more Chinese people would like to use Gao Tie (high speed train)for domestic travel instead of planes. It's way more punctual so that you just need get to the station half hour before your train not 2 hours and don't need to wait your luggage transfer by belt. Besides train stations are normally close to city center and that may save the time to get your destination.
@Nikos Gee Yes, that's a rule of thumb I learned. At greater distances, though, planes are the superior mode of transportation once you take into account not just travel time, but also the time taken to go to and from airports/train stations, and security checks.
If not the Chinese government gives every privileges to Hong Kong, Shenzhen Airport would be on the list and Hong Kong would not be dropped quite a bit.
@@predator0424 You can not read. China allows Hong Kong Airport function as a transition harbor for all travelers in and out of China. Shenzhen can easily take over this function making Hong Kong Airport an isolated local Airport.
Dubai is grow up so fast!Emirates doing good job 👍 both Beijing and Dubai now have 2 airports in their city . Beijing ready Daxing international airport and Capital international airport . Dubai ready maktoum international airport and Dubai international airport.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta is so busy because it's Deltas main hub and the state of Georgia is unwilling to build another commercial airport in the Atlanta metro area.
It's a hub airport. Most people don't stop there as their final destination. Atlanta's metro area is more than 6 million, I believe. The 500,000 figure is only the inner city.
So most big airports are found in BIG countries, but I am proud to see that in my tiny country The Netherlands, Amsterdam Airport is at the 11th spot on Worlds busiest airports.
